Tailgating Rules

Hey just curious - one of the rules I find very strange (actually two of them) are the following:

  1. No tailgating permitted during the game or half-time. Not sure what this means exactly. If you go to any other school there are hundreds, if not thousands (15+ thousand at Clemson for example) people that tailgate, set up a TV and never go into the game - either due to lack of tickets or otherwise. Why would they prevent tailgating during the game by people who can’t get tickets? They allow it for 2 hours after so the drinking thing is not the issue. Not a big deal to me as I have my tickets but it is odd and seems counter productive to building a solid tailgate fan base which is the key to team support (this gets more important as we grow).

  2. No re-entry. Again, every school I have been to (Clemson, USC, Texas, etc.) allows you to leave and come back in. If they can let 105,000 leave Texas why would they prevent this at Charlotte?

Do you think these rules will be relaxed as time goes on and they get a better comfort level with how things will progress, responsibility of the crowds, etc (also the 8am entry time)?

Just wondering! Super stoked for Saturday, I will be lined up at 8am! White Tahoe, black rims decked out in custom Niner magnets in the Black Lot. Stop in and say hi! Not the Normbulance, but it will work for now!

Glad you decided to post!

I am just going to refer to the rules, I do think they will loosen up. It is easier to start tight and then relax than the other way around. We also know that they copied other schools tailgating rules (ODU) almost letter for letter. So as we grow and change I expect the policy to become more unique to us. The main thing is people keeping things under control and nothing getting out of hand.

Welcome to the board!
Agree those rules seem dumb.

I agree! Tailgating Rules!!!

Yeah I figured it will gradually loosen up. They may leave the rules but relax the enforcement as time goes on. I will try and self police (myself ;D) and keep an eye out for idiots that will ruin it for the rest of us.

I will probably stop by and check out the rig Saturday, I saw it briefly at the Spring Game. Went to school with Harward and I told him I would stop in and see him.

See everyone Saturday!!!

Agree some don’t make much sense, especially about the no tailgating during the game. Assuming this means the person(s) didn’t have a ticket to the game, the school could still make a little extra cash (without using up a stadium seat) from the charge for parking. I have heard several people say they wanted to come tailgate even if they can’t get a game ticket.

How in the world would you keep track of people if you allowed re-entry?

Other places I’ve been just stamp your hand as proof for re-entry.

i do have a question about parking. How long are we allowed to leave our vehicles in parking decks etc after the game?

At Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, they scan my ticket when I enter and exit.

If I don’t ā€œscan outā€, I can’t ā€œscan back inā€

Tailgate lots close 2 hours after the end of the game, so I assume its then.

Quick question regarding tailgating… Does anyone know if you need a permit to park and tailgate for non-students? Also, I’m still confused on the policy on tailgating during the game. I am hoping to park in one of the lots and tailgate before (and during the game as I don’t have tickets yet). I should have the satellite tv up and running to watch from the parking lot!

Thanks guys.

There are a few lots out on the outskirts that I don’t believe are part of the tailgating parking plan. Those should be available because the policy says tailgating is permitted on campus in all areas except a few listed locations. Be aware though they said no tailgating during the game - so you might get hassled.

wouldn’t these be the lots that students will have to move their cars to?

Tailgating at Macado’s might be a better option, less likely to get hassled.

They’ve done better than anything else they’ve ever put in that building.

I did this for the spring game. woke up too late to really tailgate so we went here drank some beers and walked down the greenway to the stadium.
