http://collegesportsjunkies.blogspot.com

jk. Ill give a serious answer later.

(1) What is your biggest tradition?

Kissing the Gold Ore rock before the game, Niner Picks with our hands, not many…

(2) What is your best sport?

Usually basketball, right now it’s Golf (third place in Nation), Baseball (NCAAs), and Women’s Soccer (A-10 Regular Season Champs. Track n’ Field is good too, IIRC.

(3) Which team is your biggest rival?

Davidson for cross-town, GW and Dayton in BBall.

(4) What is one thing that every College Sports Junkies should know about Charlotte?

We’re not that bad.

(5) If you could play any team in any sport who would that be?

Any team, in FOOTBALL.

(6) Who is your most legendary player?

Cedric Maxwell was the most successful, but I feel like Jobey gets more love these days.

(5) If you could play any team in any sport who would that be?

Anyone, anytime, anywhere…in the sport of football
(3) Which team is your biggest rival?

Davidson for cross-town, GW and Dayton in BBall.
Dayton? Really?
When did that happen?

QUOTE=J Felt;254672 If you could play any team in any sport who would that be?

Any team, in FOOTBALL.

(6) Who is your most legendary player?

Cedric Maxwell was the most successful, but I feel like Jobey gets more love these days.

I’d like to avenge the overtime losses against the Tar Heels someday.

If Cedric Maxwell loved his alma mater back, he would be the most legendary. But I think John Maine is getting the most love from Charlotte faithful right now. Baseball has been our best sport recently.

Dayton? Really? When did that happen?
Seriously.

Dayton appeared to be a growing rivalry that first season, esp when they brought their whole band and their stupid hats to our arena. It never really came to fruition.

Agreed about Maxwell, and I didn’t include Maine because he’s so recent.

 1. couple of years ago, the Cincy campout. I think the green belk tower is a good ida.

 2. Golf now, historically basketball

 3. Davidson, also see my signature

 4. We shoot a ton of threes and Lutz has a mustache/pornstache (i answered this question from the standpoint of it seems every college sports fan knows this so they all should, not something they don’t know that they should know)

 5. I would play anything from the North Carolina school for the blind to Ohio State in football

 6. Legendary… I think the ghost of Malik El Tamir. Honestly, i hear about him more than anyone on this board.

Coming from the senior circuit…aka - the older alumni generation.

(1) What is your biggest tradition?

— I don’t think there is one. “pick axes” with hands ??? nah, I don’t think so. Unless you are right next to the person doing it, you have no idea what it is. A tradition should be very visible and obvious to anyone who attends a game. Campouts??? yeah, a couple of years ago, I could’ve believed it. But that tradition seems dead and buried.

Personally, I think our biggest tradition, that has lasted through the ages is the confusion with the school’s identity. Some outsiders think we are UNC-CH, academically we are UNC Charlotte, athletically we are Charlotte. We’ve also been called UNCC, UNC-C, UNC-Charlotte, Charlotte College…etc. Its not a proud tradition, but it is something that has stood the test of time.

ETA- the green Belk Tower would be a viable tradition, but I don’t remember the last time I saw that happen.

(2) What is your best sport?

— Historically, mens hoops have had the most noticable success. However, mens golf and baseball have had the most recent success.

(3) Which team is your biggest rival?

— Davidson, I guess is kinda a default answer.

(4) What is one thing that every College Sports Junkies should know about Charlotte?

— We have better athetic teams than most sports fans think.

(5) If you could play any team in any sport who would that be?

— Tough one here. Football against anyone or avenge 2 earlier losses to UNC-CH in hoops…could go either way.

(6) Who is your most legendary player?

— Hate to answer this one, because I think it has to be Cornbread Maxwell…even though he doesn’t give a damn about the school. Would rather talk most recent player to have success at the next level…John Maine.

If your moderator or you (as a collective whole) choose to ignore or delete this post, then so be it. However, this is a good chance to let other folks know about you. Please answer a few questions about Charlotte for the blog College Sports Junkies:

(1) What is your biggest tradition?
Forty Niner Chant right before tip off at basketball games. The fans were so loud during the memphis game they had to stop play because the basketball goals were shaking too badly during free throw attempts.

(2) What is your best sport?
Men’s basketball has been predominantly good over the last decade. We’ve been good in all sports except for women’s tennis lately.

(3) Which team is your biggest rival?
Davidson is our biggest actual rival currently. But we’ve had scuffles with George Washington. Past rivals consisted of Cincinnati, Memphis and Louisville.

(4) What is one thing that every College Sports Junkies should know about Charlotte?
We were in the final four in 1977. We have a former pitcher who is part of the starting rotation for the 1st place nl east mets in John Maine. Adam Mills had the lowest ERA pitching in the nation last year. Our golf team finished 3rd in the NCAA championship last season.

(5) If you could play any team in any sport who would that be?
I would like to face more desireable opponents in sports. Like actually have ACC school’s play us in Halton Arena for a change.
(6) Who is your most legendary player?
Talents wise i’d have to go with Cornbread Maxwell. Lead the '77 team to the final four. But overall i’d have to say Eric Walker, Charles Hayward, the ENTIRE 2007 golf team, Eddie Basden, John Maine and Jobey Thomas.

.

traditon? Half of the arena yells “FORTY!”, then the other half yells, “NINERS!”
(1) What is your biggest tradition?

I can’t really think of any traditions. Honestly.

(2) What is your best sport?

Basketball.

(3) Which team is your biggest rival?

Davidson.

(4) What is one thing that every College Sports Junkies should know about Charlotte?

Our athletic department is smarter than the school as a whole, because they changed their official name to just “Charlotte” as opposed to continually confusing us with UNC.

(5) If you could play any team in any sport who would that be?

Ohio State in football.

(6) Who is your most legendary player?

Cornbread Maxwell.

I still don’t understand why we didn’t keep the Mempiss and Cinci rivalries. That Cinci rivalry could’ve been considered one of the top 25 rivalries in the country there for a while, if not higher. Who’s idea was it to not keep that rivalry going by the way?

You can get the answers to these questions and many more by simply reading the Charlotte Observer. They give us more coverage than any other newspaper in town.

I’ve added your comments to the blog: http://collegesportsjunkies.blogspot.com

Please feel free to give us any suggestions or comments on our blog.

We are forming Fantasy football leagues. If you are interested see our blog for details.

Also, we will have regular predictions made by fans on our sites for both B-ball & Football. If you are interested in being a regular please e-mail us and tell us a bit about yourself and why you would like to be a regular. i.e.: the basketball school fan predictions (for football) or the underdog picks etc…

Good luck this year in sports.

Thanks again for responding.

Dude, where is your reading comprehension?? Or more so should I say, can you read?? I said I was joking. Don’t have “Choking” on there as a biggest tradition.
