Coming from the senior circuit…aka - the older alumni generation.
(1) What is your biggest tradition?
— I don’t think there is one. “pick axes” with hands ??? nah, I don’t think so. Unless you are right next to the person doing it, you have no idea what it is. A tradition should be very visible and obvious to anyone who attends a game. Campouts??? yeah, a couple of years ago, I could’ve believed it. But that tradition seems dead and buried.
Personally, I think our biggest tradition, that has lasted through the ages is the confusion with the school’s identity. Some outsiders think we are UNC-CH, academically we are UNC Charlotte, athletically we are Charlotte. We’ve also been called UNCC, UNC-C, UNC-Charlotte, Charlotte College…etc. Its not a proud tradition, but it is something that has stood the test of time.
ETA- the green Belk Tower would be a viable tradition, but I don’t remember the last time I saw that happen.
(2) What is your best sport?
— Historically, mens hoops have had the most noticable success. However, mens golf and baseball have had the most recent success.
(3) Which team is your biggest rival?
— Davidson, I guess is kinda a default answer.
(4) What is one thing that every College Sports Junkies should know about Charlotte?
— We have better athetic teams than most sports fans think.
(5) If you could play any team in any sport who would that be?
— Tough one here. Football against anyone or avenge 2 earlier losses to UNC-CH in hoops…could go either way.
(6) Who is your most legendary player?
— Hate to answer this one, because I think it has to be Cornbread Maxwell…even though he doesn’t give a damn about the school. Would rather talk most recent player to have success at the next level…John Maine.
