i dont post much but i think if you want a pg you are missing the biggest point and flaw of this team. Dew did a fine job running the point. pg is not holding this team back. the thing is we have no rebounding ability. players like this that can play the 2-4 positions can obviously handle the ball enough and they will control the boards at thier position. you cant win if you dont rebound
PG hasn’t been a problem, but you’re playing with fire when you have no other option. If Harris goes down, we’re gonna be worse than now.
Here’s the rub, if we have solid players on the floor next year, Harris will have to step it up a little. Good, solid player for us and I’m a fan. But, if we have legit scoring options next year, he’ll need to step up a a little bit as a scoring threat so they can’t sluff (sp?) off of him and double.
BTW, rebounding does suck this year but let me tell you somthing- if you think that’s our biggest problem you do not understand Bobby Ball. We’re never gonna be a lock-down type of team on D. So how does Lutz counter? We HAVE to be able to shoot the ball, and this year we can’t. Look at the stats, we couldn’t hit the ground if we threw down our hats, but we jack 25 3’s a game.
If we don’t have guys that can shoot, we’re never going to beat anybody significant with our system.
Im sorry this got off subject of the recruit, and no im not knocking harris but it takes open shots to get an assist. but especially after today to see lazy passes from the team. we need a recruit like this with fundamentals. If you really paid attention to the game today. everytime we rebound we try to force it to harris, no one would really take it up the court they got lost. back to the topic charlotte can get these versitile forwards and sgs but landing a legit pg is tough. have to take best availiable player
1. mid-major team
2. Lutz cant recruit them
3. since demon brown Lutz PG role at charlotte is to pass to 3 pt shooters and not make turnovers.
4. if I wanted to be in the nba i would play in the acc, big 12, big 10, or big east.
it will be hard to change number one but if other 3 change it would be possible.
ridiculous. excuses. so how do we land top players at other positions being a mid major and not point guard. especially since we can offer playing time.
nba pgs score alot of points. being a mid-major at the combo spots your numbers get inflated and if you are not the top tier player you can come in a freshman combo forward and have nba scouts looking at you. look at it both ways there is a reason curt and eddie didnt make it, great players and great numbers, then on the other side, alexander and plavich. they are good shooters and wanted playing time. Beasly knew he could average 30ppg and 20 rpg at charlotte but 26 and 12 looks better in a big conference. i mean who is a top player at their position that we have? the two highly recruits this season are ranked in the 40s in their position
first off, braswell is not ranked in the forties in his position. he is ranked 22nd. at his position. he is ranked 78th. in the country. also, if you put up big numbers in the a10, it wont matter that you are not playing in a bcs conference. it helps to play in a bcs conference but there are plenty of examples of guys playing at conferences much crappier than the a10 going in the first round. jason thompson from rider is a good example.
well vinson is ranked 47 overall and braswell is not even in the top 100 anymore. jason thompson is exactly what im talking about. a combo forward that goes to a small school that puts the numbers up and gets drafted. bottom line vinson would be the best pickup for us. im not saying we cant get a top talent but the pg spot is tough its not hard to see who has nba talent at the pg
everything I’ve seen about Braswell, and I follow our recruits probably closer than many, still has him ranked in the top 100. Scout doesn’t have him ranked at his position because he’s a post-grad player and they don’t rank those by position. One thing people tend to overlook about Braswell is that he will be OLD for a freshman. He will be more developed than most physically and has also been playing basketball for a few more years than other freshmen. He will be 21 before he plays his first game as a 49er.

Evaluation
December, 2008: Vinson, very similar to NBA combo-forward Antoine Walker, can shoot the 3-point shots just enough to rank as a threat from the land of 3. However, just as his NBA counterpart does, Vinson also opts too much for the 3, especially when he beats his man off the dribble instantly. Consequently, when his jumper does not fall, Vinson has to work too hard to get shots, which serves to sometimes bog down his team’s offense. Given the fact that he has only average athleticism, he needs to learn to clip defenders and get them on his hip, which will create more space for him to operate on the perimeter. If he plays more on the perimeter, he will have to continue to improve his ball-handling skills. When he receives the ball in the paint, he can finish with either hand in the post, but he will have to continue to add counter moves to his post repertoire, as he sometimes has problems when faces more athletic big guys.

June, 2008: Terrell is a skilled wing. He can play either forward position but is more of a natural wing forward. He is a solid shooter to 19 feet. He has a solid face up game but is more of a jump shooter than a slasher. He can score with putting the ball on the floor but tends to be more effective spotting up. He is a good rebounder for his position. He is an average defender and an average basketball athlete. Terrell is an ok passer with a decent basketball IQ but he is asked to finish plays not start them.

December, 2007: Vinson is one of the most versatile, do it all players in the Class of '09. He is a combo forward who consistently fills up a stat sheet. Terrell is a very good athlete with a variety of ways to score. He has a good nose for the ball and a willingness to compete in the paint. His motivation, court intelligence, and consistency make him a coveted recruit.
Terrell has a really nice looking stroke, solid basketball knowledge and a good build which allow him to have a great offensive arsenal. He can take it to the rim and finish on anyone. Vinson plays inside in high school but he’s an ideal wing at the next level. His experience down allows him to rebound with the best of them and get out and go.

would be good for the coaches to remain in close contact with him. Obviously priority is PG, but you never know what could happen to Dew with an injury that serious. You never know, the doctors could potentially tell him he won’t be able to play basketball for a while. Tearing a ligament is bad enough, tearing two and dislocating your knee is pretty detrimental. I’m sure they’ll have a good idea of his healing process in the near future.

I think Lutz would be thrilled to recruit a PG who could shoot, but hasn't. I don't think he's intentionally looking for Mitchell Baldwins. I could see Lutz very happy with a Leemire/Demon backcourt, for instance, with both shooting often.

i wouldnt mind having a point guard who shoots a lot as long as he makes his team better. i wouldnt put mitchell baldwin in either category, he really couldnt do either.
not to take attention away from the original thread but i wonder why we havent recruited akeem richmond. he seems to be a guy who can put up points and at the very least could be a very good back up.
As everyone has stated, finding another PG should be our number one priority in finishing up recruiting for next season. If we added Terell Vinson we’d get more rebounding and down low scoring. We are already getting that with Spears, Sherrill, and Braswell. I think that he’d be a great asset to the team…but only if we truly think that we can’t get another good gaurd.
More food for thought… I really like Coleman, but I think that he’s a terrible shooting gaurd (24% from 3!). I think that he can slash and drive well, and if he hit the weight room he’d be a decent small forward, so we’d be even more stacked at the forward position.
If we can’t get another good point gaurd I advocate getting another tallented shooting gaurd. If what you guys are saying is true Bowden could take over point and the new SG could fill his spot. I also wouldn’t mind recruiting someone that was very tallented at defense… we need that badly this year.
