The Case Against ... CHARLOTTE!

A Marquette blogger writes a series of posts about some of the rivals of the Golden Eagles. Enjoy!

This part was definitely worth a laugh. Couldn’t have said it better myself:

Butter Johnson - Apparently, Butter was "good" enough to play in NBDL, but Butter sticks out in my memory as the "Steve ‘The Homer' True Overemphasized Opponent Name of the Game." He was Charlotte's version of Moussa Badiane or Travis Holcomb-Faye.

As with most blogs, what the hell is the point of that one? The case against…what? Then he goes on to bad mouth Diego, Jobey, Demon, and Plavich.

Is this guy mad because we kicked their ass with regularity?

This part was over the top:

The creepy factor was in full effect for Bobby. I'm surprised his work release program allowed him to leave NC. Way to put yourself in the same category as The Jesus and the Antichrist.

I mean, really? WTF?

I dunno, I mean I took it all as good fun. I mean, he repeatedly states that we handed them their ass on a regular basis. I didn’t take it quite the same way you did, I guess…I dunno.

I probably wouldn’t have had he not posted the stuff about Lutz. Yeah, Lutz got animated on the sidelines at times, but is a class act off of the court. The references he used are uncalled for. As I said though, typical of a blog.

Some funny remarks in there but his take on Diego’s abilities show he’s a little ignorant of the facts. Diego was the very definition of clutch and carried the team on his back on more than one occassion.

I’m with X though, the case against Charlotte for what?

I thought it was kind of awesome, myself. I laughed at the creepiness of Lutz!

To me, that kind of trash talk is more of a compliment than anything else. Anyone that reads GreenTintedGlasses should be able to take the joke when it’s directed at us.

Although I did get offended at one part - Charlotte is not ‘DePaul’? WTF? No respect at all, I tell ya. No respect at all.

I think they meant more in terms of rivalry.

I believe the statement about Diego was a joke. One of the comments references the fact that Diego would still bank in those terrible shots and then blow a kiss to his wife.

EDIT: and you can except GTG to kill some of the offseason with our own posts like this, if we ever feel like updating.

I loved this…

Charlotte coach Bobby Lutz got a technical foul in the second half of his team's victory over Marquette Saturday in large part because lead official Hal Lusk didn't properly pronounce the coach's name. For those who still don't know, it's "Lootz" as in boots, not "Luhtz" as in nuts.
Lusk, despite officiating in the league for all of Lutz's four seasons, called him "coach Luhtz." And Lutz exploded. "You don't know my name! You don't know my name!" Lutz roared, and Lusk hit him with the "T." Lutz tried to charge toward Lusk. First he was restrained by a player, then by one of his assistants. He broke away and at midcourt shouted, "You don't know my name" at Lusk again. Afterward, Lutz said, "I've been in the league four years. He ought to know how to pronounce my name."

That was all kinds of awesome. Thank you to this guy for choosing to believe we’re still relevent somehow after the last 5 putrid seasons.

I’m not sure if the Diego didn’t bring much to the table eval was tongue in cheek or not, or just a failed joke. If it was serious, that’s my only nitpick. The rest of that was really good and made me chuckle.

He really blew his opportunity to pile on for Calvin Clemmons almost killing Travis Diener. Or forgetting to mention that we held Brian Wardle scoreless on the night he only needed 1 pt to break a significant scoring record/plateau during his senior year. Bobby Lutz & James Zimmerman just decided he wasn’t gonan break the record against us and he didn’t. And even better, we won the game!

I believe there was more to this event than most people know, both before the game and after.

Yep. They asked Lutz if they could stop the game once Wardle broke the record and present him the game ball. Lutz said No and that really pissed them off.

Not sure what happened after the game though.

Never heard about the Wardle stuff when it happened. Good info.

Yeah, the Clemmons landing on Diener would have really been over the top. Of course, a couple of their fans were way out of line that night after it happened. They mouthed off at Clemmons as if he did it intentionally and were calling for retaliation. Note to Diener and other smallish guards: if you pump fake a 6’8" PF and try to draw a foul as he comes down, potential serious injury could occur from the resulting contact.

I remember the Diener incident like it was yesterday. That sh*t was scary. That was my first year in the Pep Band, and it happened down on the end of the court where we set up…it was absolutely brutal. That being said, I also remember thinking how asinine it was for their fans to call for retaliation against Clemmons and react toward him personally the way they did. X is right…if you’re gonna pump fake Calvin Clemmons when he’s already going up over you to begin with, you have to account for the fact that he MIIIIIIIIGHT land on your neck.

That’s pretty classless.

In order to be a rival, doesn’t the other team have to win a few times?

I think it was exactly the right thing to do. Honor him on your own court.

As pointed out though, it was a moot point. The kid didn’t even score.

They beat us in WI.
