No, all thanks to Chapel Hill (unc board) for using (Valvano) as an excuse to make us remove Jeff Mullins as AD. Part of the clear and obvious effort to suppress out athletic department. This move hurt as bad as sending us chapel hill phill!!
That too - but Valvano was the cause for the change of policy at all state schools. It wasn’t exclusive to us.
Lefty mighta had a hand in it to with theLen Bias disaster. Wasnt he coach and AD too ?
It applied to all but we were the one’s with momentum that got screwed. I am certain that policy was implemented to blunt our momentum.
When it went down we had made a single ncaa tournament since 1977 and had and NIT coming off back to back near .500 seasons. You can make the case it helped us as Jeff was able to concentrate on one role. Our momentum would get going for another year.

Only my opinion but Mullins had vision. He would have started football decades earlier and we would now be at least Big 12. unc board did what they did to prevent this and got rid of AD Mullins as soon as they could. Hell, I would even say Chapel Hill (unc board) sent us Chapel Hill Phill to squash the momentum of our late 90’s early 2000’s basketball success. The heels getting away with 18 years of athletic academic fraud and the unc board does nothing. NC State commits a violation and WE have to remove our big time upward mobil AD. This PROVES the unc board is crooked!
