The Search for a New Men's Basketball Coach has begun

The medical school is by far the biggest way Chapel Hill has screwed us over in my lifetime.

Edit: Also, Chapel Hill establishing a MBA program in Charlotte screws over our business school.

Sanchez absolutely didn’t have to be involved. He’s incompetent and his absolute refusal to set any metrics by which to be held accountable should have been a huge red flag. Instead we made a ā€œgood hire on paperā€ that was subjectively terrible. Maybe that’s what we were going for.

We will know in three years if we need a new AD or not. Unfortunately it may be too late by then.

I hate to say this but I don’t think our athletics program is even an after thought to them. We’re simple not relevant enough to matter to them.

I would think their thoughts are most about getting out of the ACC and getting a slice of the big money pie. Charlotte, eh, not so much

My recollection is that most of the pushback on football came from within the UNC System HQ, not UNC-CH. And Mullins having to give up the AD position was in direct response to the Jim Valvano scandal at NC State.

That could be true. We are also in the richest city in the state, by far. It wouldn’t surprise me if they bothered to pay attention when our 20 year tenured mee maw AD retired. If we had someone who could make some great hires and get the city invested and raise some funds we could be a juggernaut. My guess is that CH wouldn’t like that very much.

Yeah the football deal always seems to get pinned on UNC instead of the UNC system. I would bet the UNC system would advise any university in the system to not start football because they would prefer to focus more on academics & not athletics.

I don’t want a head basketball coach from any part of the old ACC. Even Dukes old basketball coach, the guy with the hard to spell last name-pass.

clt is 1000% behind Ninercentral’s theory

It’s basically one in the same. Since 1956, there have been 7 UNC system presidents. 5 of those 7 graduated from UNC-CH. The other 2 went to school out of the state of NC. Over the last 67 years, the UNC system has had a unc-ch grad as the president 56 of those years.

Then there’s also the BOG. I don’t have time to look up every person that served on it. But I can tell you that 5 out the 6 chairpersons went to unc-ch. So that’s going back at a minimum of 17 years, the chairperson was a unc-ch grad.

UNC system is controlled by Chapel Hill. Valvano scandal could have been handled and we keep our AD. My opinion only, If Mullins had remained our AD we would be in the Big 12 now.

Still crossing my fingers we get Bob Richey

All this Chapel Hill talk reminds me of a song:

UNC system had no concern when UNC-Pembroke started football. They didn’t send Spangler and Bowels to UNC-P campus to give speeches against starting football.

McCollum was a refreshing experience interview. Some concerns, but a solid maybe

Not really super impressed with the dude in Asheville

The BOG is appointed by the state legislature. So I guess this conspiracy goes almost all the way to the top of the state government. That’s so stupid. We are responsible for our own failures. Not some government conspiracy.

Seems cool. Seems like a realist.

And I’m guessing he can coach his ass off.

Sounds good to me.

Go get him.

(As long as he’s not a Pack Line D guy).

He seems to fit most of the bill I want.

Successful head coaching experience.

Who can actually coach the game of basketball.
