That said, following is an examination of five names certain to cross Hyman’s desk. They are listed in order of likelihood they will some day coach at USC.
3. BOBBY LUTZ, CHARLOTTE
It is quite remarkable what kind of job the 49-year-old Lutz has done in his 10 seasons at his alma mater, mostly because he has one of the most difficult recruiting assignments in the southeast.
Charlotte essentially is a commuter school. On top of that, the school is located in the heart of ACC basketball. Rarely does Lutz have a chance in recruiting battles against North Carolina, Duke, N.C. State and Wake Forest.
Yet, every so often Lutz lands a top 20 recruiting class. Then he coaches the heck out of his players. He has gained a reputation for being one of the game’s top strategists.
In his first nine seasons at Charlotte, Lutz has guided the 49ers to five NCAA tournaments and two NITs. His teams have topped 20 wins four times, won three conference regular-season championships and another two tournament titles.
Prior to the current season, Lutz attempted to leverage a job offer at South Alabama into an extended contract at Charlotte. The administration did not bite and the $300,000-per-year contract he signed in 2002 expires following the 2008-09 season.
Are you really going to contact the guy? I wouldn't even worry about it.
A lot of people think Charlotte is a commuter school.
Okay I dont want to turn this into a bashing thread… but this is seriously the stupidest thing I’ve read in a long time and I hope you intended some serious sarcasm when you wrote it…
Most people think its a commuter school? Not going to argue that… but not doing anything about it… well then why dont we just let everyone continue to think that. You dont start emailing people - you just let it keep on going. We here on NNN believe in taking action, and I would like to believe you do the same… so seriously… encourage it - its how things slowly but surely get done…
preventing this guy from writing something stupid as this again is just a piece of changing this universities perception from what it was into what it truely is…

CFI could of not started emailing people… We could of let people think Bonnie Cones kid died in a football accident…
It’s definitely a testament to how well we’ve done this year. Think about it - this time last year, could any of you even have dreamed that Bobby would be mentioned as a candidate to take over an SEC program?
Let’s just get this guy a new contract and get it over with.
This is taken out of context. If you look at this site it is actually refering to the engineering students that live on campus (hince the coe in the link). If you look at the admissions website more than half of our students do live off campus even when you include the apartments adjacent to campus. See the admissions website. link There are only 4400 people that live on campus and additional 4000 that live in the surrounding apartments. Although I think this may not include the new Greek row that opened, which is around 500 people I think. Only 8900 of the 22000 (40%) students live either on or immediately surrounding campus. While I hate to admit it the numbers don’t lie.

Sorry I didn’t mean to highjack the thread.
Your numbers are pretty accurate, however what I think you’ll be surprised at is the comparable numbers for other area schools (that most people think of as more “traditional” than Charlotte). Take a look at some of those and get back to me. I think you’ll see that if we’re a “commuter-school”, then so are about 90% of all the other area schools.

Unfortunately, as a general rule, a commuter school is determined by the percentage of students who actually live ON campus. With that said, we could have 3/4 of our students living on campus or “within walking distance,” if only 1/10 of the students live on campus, and the remainder of that 3/4 live “within walking distance,” we would still be deemed a commuter school.
This is a quote from a Gamecock fan on Cockytalk.com
“Lutz - Oh God, another Dave Odom. Good X’s & O’s, likeable guy, good teacher, MEDIOCRE recruiter…He couldnt even keep Michael Beasley committed…If Hyman hires him, he might as well cut his wrist because if he thought he was hated now it will only get worse. Bobby Lutz is severely overrated IMO. Yeah, he has some NCAA acheivements but he hasnt done anything at UNCC to say, wow I want that guy. He is starting to get up there in age, and this would nothing more than a lateral move for us.”

My husband later posted sticking up for Lutz.
No, we should create USC yahoo emails pretending to be fans and alums (email their head people) and cry out for them NOT TO HIRE LUTZ. We should do our part to sabotage Lutz leaving… kinda selfish I guess though.

UNC Chapel Hill 2007 Figures
27,000+ students
8,600+ live on campus
Result: ~32% UNCCH students live on campus (ie; UNC Chapel Hill = Commuter School)

You would think most schools would be commuter school then. I would guess Freshman and Sophmores make up 75-85% of those that live ON campus anyway. It should be calculated by the average distance from residence to school.
The info they handed out at the Football meeting a few months ago said that 45% of our students lived either on campus or within 1 mile of campus.
On the topic of USC, it amazes me some of these Clempson and Cock fans attitude about our program. Comparing the 3, I would think that we have had much more consistant success than either of these 2. I’m sure these 2 schools have much more $$ to work with also. I remember the last time the Cocks came to Halton, and got blown out of the gym. I guess that’s why they won’t schedule us again.

Thats more what I was thinking…
The reason they think so low of our program is because they have SEC football programs. Hate to break it to them… but the whole “you dont have football” thing really doesnt hurt my feelings anymore… I think I’m numb to it, and if anything they just look stupid.
