The TV shows that don't get their own thread thread

I already watched the first episode. Was pretty solid. Two night premiere. Worth a look. Based on a very popular sci fi book series (like Game of Thrones). Maybe not quite as raw as GoT but it isnt a kiddie show.

IZombie is the best show going you aren’t watching. It’s by the creator of Veronica Mars and will go to Firefly like cult status when it goes off the air.

clt endorses alf.

Did anyone watch The Expanse last night?

Here’s another trailer:

I am tempted because it is right underneath Curbed on my Prime page.

Is it melodramatic? I find myself not typically enjoying TV-type drama series because they are over the top melodramatic to the point I roll my eyes. There was a series on Netflix with Maggie Gyllenhaal called The Honourable Woman that was so overly melodramatic, especially with the music, I had to leave the room when my girlfriend watched it.

Finished this last night. I really like it. No idea where it is going.

I did :). It looks like it has some potential. The only other Sy Fy show I’ve really gotten in to was Battlestar Galactica. Obviously BSG started out with a bigger bang (literally), but The Expanse may suck me in as well.

The production value/ special effects are excellent. It is edgy and I think an interesting background has been set up. It started a little slow, but it looks like things are escalating. I’ll for sure give it a few more episodes.

Has anyone read the books?

I have the first 3 on my kindle but havent found the time to read them.

I want to watch the Man from the High Castle too. Just dont have the time or energy to keep up with more than one show at a time.

Ill probably binge it sometime soon.

No. It is the opposite of a show that would have been done by a major network that has their same formula for every show.

Wife made the point last night that it has too many unmarried people shacking up together for the 1950s, as in >0. But that is the only thing we have said negative, and not really negative at that.

I thought of that too, but what was Nazi/Japanese policy on such things? Could be with their societal structure such a thing wasn’t a big deal. With religion sidelined like it was doesn’t seem like it would be that big a deal.

Hate it only had 10 episodes. I didnt want it to stop.

Sexual deviance wasn’t invented in the 1970s.

A little embarrassed to admit this but I’m kind of liking Supergirl. My daughter and I watch it each Monday evening.

Amazon Prime? If the show was worth anything, it’d be on TV. Amazon Prime & Netflix are extra. No show should be primary net based. It goes against the concept of TV. Bah humbug.

You are missing out.

New content these days pitches to Netflix early on.

Enjoy NCIS: Lumberton, The Voice, and Law & Order: Parking tickets Division

Feel like a previous generation said the same thing when shows went from radio to tv.

NWA if it’s so good, why can’t it get a TV deal?

Maybe it doesnt want a TV deal? Thats like saying if Game of Thrones is so good why isn’t it on CBS? As a free market capitalist you should love this. New technology creating a more diverse competitive environment. Or would you prefer everything on PBS comrade Kenny?

Transparent (Amazon)
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
House of Cards (Netflix)
Orange is the New Black (Netflix)

All Emmy nominated shows. Not to mention Bloodline (Netflix), Narcos (Netflix), Daredevil (Netflix) all original and critically acclaimed shows. Still Untitled Jeremy Clarkson & Co. motoring program (Amazon, a $15 million deal at that), Arrested Development, Season 4 (Netflix) etc. The list goes on and on and will continue to grow. I haven’t even mentioned Hulu.

Let’s not forget that every single show HBO produces is also streamed simultaneously on their apps (HBO Now and HBO Go). The only network tv show I still watch is Family Guy on Fox. There isn’t a single show on ABC, CBS, or NBC that even marginally sparks my interest. It’s all formulaic, mass produced poop.

I’m 3 episodes into Narcos and I’m hooked. Phenomenal show.
