The TV shows that don't get their own thread thread

Made it through all the episodes, fantastic show.

We started watching the Last Kingdom on Netflix. It’s really good. It’s like Game of Thrones with 1/28th the amount of story lines.

Next on the list is likely ‘Stranger Things’ based on a recommendation. Anyone else watched it?

I started ‘Stranger Things’ this weekend. It is like being transported back to 1983. It is very suspenseful and the acting is great. The show is inspired by Stephen Spielburg and Stephen King works of that era. I would recommend.

clt recommends friends. Always cold on set.

I’ve cut the cord and am running Netflix and Amazon at present. Haven’t missed anything too much yet.

Keep the recommendations coming.

I’ve enjoyed Man in the High Castle on Amazon and After Bojack Horseman, I’m going to try Strangers Things.

Narcos, OITB among other are in the mix as well.

Amazon also has bosch
Netflix, Bloodline and Marco

Depending on your style of humor, Catastrophe on Amazon is quality. British show about a 6 night stand turned into unexpected pregnancy turned into hilarious family. Each episode is only a half hour and there are only 2 seasons of 6 episodes each, so you could binge the whole series (so far) in 6 hours. More than other comedies, the two stars actually make each other laugh at their mid-40s marriage plights and it really livens up the show. Dark, dry British humor abounds.

I really enjoyed this one, reminded me of ET meets the Goonies.

I’m enjoying “the Night Of” on HBO. Solid storytelling. It’s only an 8 episode limited series, but it’ll carry me almost to football season, so Im thankful.

John Turturro and the kid who plays the main character are both excellent.

Good interview with one of the actresses, though its spoilery if you aren’t caught up with the show:

They are apparently holding back the final episode from everyone, including the actors.

clt also recommends Seinfeld. Show about nothing though.

I second this. Great show, the kids were great, although I cringed a few times when they kept dropping the Millennium Falcon.

Just started watching Humans on Amazon. 3 episodes in and I love it. Kinda creepy at times and it has parts that remind me of AI.

Who else is watching The Night Of on HBO?

Edit: at least NA, lol. Didn’t see above post.

Me. Still applying eye bleach.

It’s a fantastic show. Easily worthy of the now special 9pm Sunday time slot.

Only 3 more episodes left though.

Junkshot aside, the show is doing an extremely deft job of subtly interweaving docu style expose/procedural drama with societal commentary/analogies. It seems slow on the surface, but it is saying quite a bit, and very effectively. This is the type of show that would make for legit college coursework in dissection. So many discussion points at so many different levels.

I hope it is not so understated that it misses out on awards, because its trajectory is towards a finale that should earn it lavish praise.

clt recommends garbage time

Good points. The first episode was a lesson in how to create “elephant on your chest” tension on screen. But when you go back and watch it without the first time jitters, there are SO. MANY. CLUES. about what happened that night. Stuff that just slips right by because you’re watching it like, NO DONT DO THE DRUGS NAZ. NO, DONT TOUCH THE KNIFE, NAZ. NO, DONT BE SUCH A DUMBASS, NAZ!!!

Maybe already mentioned, but I just caught up on Shameless and I really enjoyed it. Working on Stranger Things now.

Stranger things is so good.

Started watching ATLANTA. Really digging it so far 3 episodes in. Donald Glover is proving himself to be one of the best in the biz. Really good character development this early on and the show has some really funny moments.

Also watching Designated Survivor on ABC. I went into it with minimal expectations, given it was a network show with Kiefer Sutherland. Been pleasantly surprised so far by a few things about it. First, it does not mince words or dance around the presently-relevant tensions between Muslims and the residents of neighborhoods they live in, especially in the immediate aftermath of a terrorist attack. Second, it seems to be mostly convincingly-acted, even if portions of the script are kinda hammy. And third, it demonstrates some of the real human struggle that a president would have to go through in making the kinds of decisions like whether to put troops on the ground, whether to be transparent in a TV interview, and whether to appoint a longtime aide or suave political operative as chief of staff. It gives some of those types of decisions depth.

Now, the plot is getting thicker and I’m not sure I like where it is going as far as “insider congressman blows up capitol” as it is developing. But I’ll stick it out because there is some good stuff to watch and the wife likes it.
