This weekend's visitor
Please explain to me why we can’t say anything here because it’s on another site!!!

If Niner Report reported a meteor was heading to Earth…and I found out in another way (or heard a rumor)…would I not be allowed to say anything to the Niner Nation community because Niner Report reported it first!!!

Is information now considered proprietary and protected property?!?!

This is dumb as hell.

This is the most active Niner community in existence…if someone knows something and wants to share something (like the mystery recruit)…they shouldn’t be discouraged or scared to say something just because another pay site has it on their site!!

I’ll say it again.

Dumb
As
Hell

Are we suddenly living behind the wrong side of the resurrected Berlin wall?

Jesus!
i agree

Agree nobody should feel deterred from sharing information, especially when it seems 90% of Ninerreport’s stories do not offer any more substance than the casual posts that appear on here. But, I can also see why those who do subscribe are reluctant to speak out. Regardless, within 48 hours we’ll all know who it is and we can move on.

I agree, Tim has worked hard to keep good information coming and is checking sources to confirm what he prints. When someone on here post then it’s fair game, or when Jim Utter gives us an update…Until then I hope the visit this weekend is a good one…

If I had confirmation that I am right, I’d post the name (I’m highly positive as to who it is based off connecting the dots). It’s really not that hard to figure out if you’ve been through the threads. I just don’t want to post a name, send the board into a frenzy, SOMEHOW be wrong, and get labeled a fibber again.

both visitors would be guards.

am i the only one that thinks we are desperate to get a 2010 big man?

After this season we lose, Phil, Spears and Wilderness. That is a lot of rebounding and Sherrill and Braswell can’t play 40 min.

substantiates who I think it is further

I would like to land one, but don’t want to waste a scholarship just to get a big body.

I agree no cutting and pasting. However if that means you can’t paraphrase an article then that site is a bigger joke than what I imagined. It’s little wonder they have no subscribers and no sponsors.

Copy/pasting and/or reposting verbatim is against copyright laws. Paraphrasing is not.

Reluctant because it’s against the guidelines of Rivals. You must not have read the stories that Tim Parker has been getting lately. It’s much more than what is posted here. He works hard to get information and interviews. If the content is shared for free, how long do you think it will stay in business? That’s the way Rivals and other pay sites work. Some of you guys must be new to this whole thing.

According to what Parker posted in the Pick, he spoke to Vandross and Oliver yesterday and will have those stories up.
He already did a one-on-one with coach Major (No other media has sat down with him like that)
He now has interviews with all 3 assistants, Briscoe, Braswell & info on the guys coming in this weekend

I just want to know if the guys that will be on campus are players?

It’s called sponsorship. Find a few business sponsors who are loyal to the program, get them on board and then lower the price to a more reasonable level. The problem is the quality articles are few and far between. And if that doesn’t work with Rivals, start your own blog. I guess it’s easy for me to say rather than do. However I think the potential is there for someone who wants to grab the bull by the horns to set up their own independent blog. Get a few business sponsors who are willing to put ads or coupons on the page in exchange for a small monthly fee. Then charge a small annual subscription fee to users. Great resume piece for any journalism student.

I don’t think anyone disagrees with not being allowed to copy paste it, since its against copyright laws. No matter what rivals asks, anyone can repost the summarized info. Whether they choose to is a different story, and I have no problem with people choosing not to. But you’ve gone overboard on this site about it. I’m tempted to renew my sub just to summarize every article you post on here to advertise and tempt people.

Things will get interesting in this country if “paraphrasing” and “sharing information” becomes illegal when Fox News and many others go the online subscription route.

I could totally see judges going on message boards saying its illegal to post the subject of an article or one comment from it.

I’m certainly not new to anything, and have no problem with them trying to make a business out of it. It’s great that they have new stuff frequently posted now, but there have been plenty of times in the past where the stories were few and far between. We’ve all seen the posters on here complaining about it. It’s hard to convince someone to pay basically what amounts to $100 annually in return for weekly premium articles that talk about the upcoming game with Lasalle and Fordham. Would that be protected information we can’t discuss either?

I have no problem with them charging for information, and we all agree that copying/pasting the article is not cool. However I do think it’s silly to expect people to keep the information in those articles a secret.

I’ve grown up a Miami Hurricanes football fan. I am a member of Rivals and I chose (when ninerreport was not doing much at all) to have the hurricanes as my home site so that I could get all of the football recruiting info. Tim is doing a good job with ninerreport, there just isn’t a lot of basketball stuff to do constantly. He has a story about a recruit and puts it on the premium messageboard where only ninerreport members can see it? I plan on switching to ninerreport as soon as football recruiting gets going, but for now the rivals site is the only way i can keep up with Hurricane football recruiting.

It’s ridiculous for people to think that you can’t post what you see about a recruit.

C’mon Lefty, I know you can read. It says nothing about paraphrasing or commenting on what the article was about. You just can’t copy and paste.
