I don’t know why you guys are attacking me, Tim Parker or the other NR subscribers. It’s not our guidelines. It’s Rivals/Yahoo but it certainly makes sense. Rivals & NR wouldn’t be in business if all the pay stuff was posted everywhere.
The guideline/rules message does state: “Any of the information published on this site, especially in THIS message board, is not to be reposted anywhere!”
We should get rid of the women of lost poll and start a poll for this.
Question: How should information from premium/pay sites be handled?
a) never post or refer to anything from a pay site (this includes not posting teasers).
b) post a teaser with a link to the pay site but not access
c) allow paraphrasing of the topic/info for purpose of allowing posters to break the information down
d) allow everything short of violating copyright laws
Reluctant because it’s against the guidelines of Rivals. You must not have read the stories that Tim Parker has been getting lately. It’s much more than what is posted here. He works hard to get information and interviews. If the content is shared for free, how long do you think it will stay in business? That’s the way Rivals and other pay sites work. Some of you guys must be new to this whole thing.
According to what Parker posted in the Pick, he spoke to Vandross and Oliver yesterday and will have those stories up.
He already did a one-on-one with coach Major (No other media has sat down with him like that)
He now has interviews with all 3 assistants, Briscoe, Braswell & info on the guys coming in this weekend
It’s called sponsorship. Find a few business sponsors who are loyal to the program, get them on board and then lower the price to a more reasonable level. The problem is the quality articles are few and far between. And if that doesn’t work with Rivals, start your own blog. I guess it’s easy for me to say rather than do. However I think the potential is there for someone who wants to grab the bull by the horns to set up their own independent blog. Get a few business sponsors who are willing to put ads or coupons on the page in exchange for a small monthly fee. Then charge a small annual subscription fee to users. Great resume piece for any journalism student.
I have been thinking about doing this, but I just don’t know if I have the time.
Lefty, I don’t think anybody is trying to attack you or Tim personally… but if nobody can even give a name off of the rivals site, then why can you constantly post teasers that are essentially spam? You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

You paraphrased the rules, actually, you exempted the meat of it. It doesn’t say you can’t discuss the material, it just says you cannot copy/paste or repeat the info verbatim. Most of us are college level or above. We all know how to write a research paper citing sources, without plagarism. It’s the same thing.
Reposting information is copying it. If you discuss it, it is not plagarism, or infringement of copyright laws.
Tim and I have chatted privately on some things, and I have much respect for him doing anything pro Niner. That said, if you have a rivals subscription, and then read the info there, its not illegal to say on NNN, “I heard John Smith was coming on campus this weekend for visit”
…because Rivals certainly is not the only source that knows whats happening. If Ninerreport knows it, so do 20 others around campus, and you can’t monopolize news
It seems to me like folks are talking past one another. Here’s how I see it:
Ninerreport can choose to blackball someone for relaying info (even summarizing or paraphrasing) if they want to, since it is their private enterprise, just like they ban folks who are disruptive (though they may need to refund your money then).
They can’t go after someone who is paraphrasing information to charge them with a crime . It has to be copy and pasted, and I believe it has to be more than one paragraph (or some similar word limit).
So, it’s not illegal to post summaries of the articles on here, but it might get you banned from the rivals site (as long as they can figure out over there who you are over here). If you’re using different posting names, I’m not sure how without some help from folks here. Edit: also, if you just say you got it from elsewhere, not sure how they decide to ban you, but they can choose to cut their clientele that way if they think it’s worth it.
Not sure why some get so worked up about this, we all know that most Niner recruits come completely out of nowhere. Maybe that changes, but maybe it also convinces you that it’s not worth worrying so much about the “premium” content if you don’t want to spend that money.
One player is really easy to figure out. The other, I don’t think anyone would ever guess in a million years. I mean literally after a couple thousand guesses and scouring rosters for names you still wouldn’t have it (unless I somehow missed his name mentioned in a thread somewhere). The first guy is EXTREMELY highly rated (for his level), the second is more along the lines of possible diamond in the rough.
I have to say it’s funny how the same people who bash NR and say it never has anything noteworthy on it are the same ones who beg for the info when it comes out. NR has scooped several names that have not been mentioned on this board yet. Trust me, Tim is just getting warmed up. Not trying to sound like a pitch man, but the subscription is definitely worth it.

Others may know what’s happening BUT if your source of the info was Rivals, you cannot repost it (according to Rivals guidelines).
If you think you know who it is, just say it’s a guess, & you won’t be fibbing.
If the Niner Report is so damn secretive, don’t come on here tempting us with it. You don’t see people at the Luxury Suites of the Panthers going to the cheap seats to tell them all the extra goodies they get in the Luxury Suites. No because people would think they are a rich prick, as is Niner Report!
Tim Parker sounds like he needs to be bitch-slapped!

I could get my info from rivals, say I heard it from my own source, and nobody can prove otherwise. Once news is released, it loses it’s protected status. The Wall Street Journal is a subscription news service, but once their news is posted you can bet your ass that hundreds of other news organizations start reporting on it as well. If a rivals subscriber told me who we were recruiting in a conversation, then I were to post it on here, there is a not a damn thing Rivals could do about it. Even if they tried, it would never hold up in a court of law.
Now I respect that subscribers here don’t want to post information for free that they pay for, but I find it laughable that those that subscribe think it is illegal to share any information.
WTF? Why? Take your whining up with me and Lefty, not Tim. All Tim does is bust his ass to get us GREAT interviews and recruiting scoops. As for my posts about NR, all I’m doing is trying to show to all the haters that NR really is worth it. There are a few recruiting names on there that no one has mentioned on here, and Interviews with every coach that have some awesome stuff in them.
stone- I haven’t seen Tim say anything like that. Lefty is a self appointed rule enforcer (who interprets them a bit iffy), and some others here are falling into the same boat. tim never really posts here anymore so I don’t know his complete view.
