Hi guys. So, what’s happening?
You probably didn’t rub it in Deninsons face so please don’t to those even more inferior

Thank God for the Panthers…

My only hope this year is that it goes so poorly that Judy has to step down. I’d like to think that a third straight year of rapidly declining attendance (which will happen if the season goes how we think it will go), another overall low performing year in the AD, and a poor business model would be enough to get Rose the boot, but that would mean actually holding people accountable.

I really wonder why I’m a Niners fan sometimes…maybe baseball can show some promise this year.

Accountability is not in the Charlotte athletic department dictionary. Sadly Judy is here until she is ready to go.

This seems to be a perfect storm of problems. It’s not any one thing, but a number of major issues that result in the team playing like one of the worst teams in D1 basketball. I don’t think we have the worst collection of players in D1 basketball, but they are currently playing like that as a team.

I expected this season to be tough for the following reasons:

 1. New coach transition. There’s always a learning curve for how a coach wants to do things, unless the coach comes in as an internal candidate (or the issues are masked by superior talent or luck).
 2. New coach is new to being a head coach: It’s rarely a smooth transition, Price is likely making some mistakes right now. Having an experience staff (really Fancher) helps I’m sure, but it’s still up to Price to lead the team/program.
 3. So many talented players leaving. Obviously Dorn, Woods, and Thorne leaving hurt, but even Clayton was good for some defense and rebounding despite his lack of composure on the court and apparently issues off of it. I think it’s also evident that Henry and Williams helped to cover some deficiencies last year, losing them at the same time as the transfers out hurt a lot.
 4. So much inexperience replacing them, meaning guys that have never even sat the bench in a D1 game suddenly being asked to contribute in major ways.
 5. A difficult early schedule, including this Davidson game.
 6. Freshman point guard, always seems like this is the toughest position for a new guy to come in and play well even if he seems to be a decent recruit. Davis is really being thrown into the fire so far, I expect he’ll get better.

I didn’t expect the following:

 1. How many issues we’d have on defense. I expected defense to be poor due to inexperience and limited post play, but not this bad. I know it’s insanely early, but this is raising some doubts in my head about Price and co.'s ability to coach team defense. The offense is not great, but at least has some stretches of above average play. But defense is consistently giving up wide open 3’s and layups and making it too easy for the opposing team to get wide open shots.
 2. The lack of contribution from Griciunas. He’s got time to get better still and hopefully he’ll eventually contribute, but right now he’s a complete liability on the court, to the point I feel like we should just take our chances with 4 guard lineups all game until he improves.
 3. The lack of improvement/contribution from Ogbueze, Sullivan, and Blakely. I actually think Sullivan has been ok, just inconsistent. But Ogbueze has played much more poorly than I expected, and I also didn’t expect Blakely to get essentially zero meaningful minutes on a team so limited.
 4. So many walk-ons getting big minutes. I’m not sure it affects the outcome, but it makes it tougher to cut into big deficits. Remember when we joked about having to start walk-ons when the transfers left?

I originally thought we might still pile up a few wins in conference due to how historically bad CUSA is this year (Marshall, S. Miss, and N. Texas will likely be 300+ rpi teams). But now I’m not sure, even bad teams will find ways to expose our defense. I really hope Price and co. find ways to help the team improve by conference play.

Will we be in that list too?

I am absolutely fed up with Charlotte athletics. I’ve never been mister positivity but right now there is nothing to be positive about. I am sick and tired of us being terrible in basketball and now football. I know we could give a million excuses as to why this isn’t the coaches faults. I do not care. All I know is that I am sick and tired of my alma mater being awful in these two sports. I am embarrassed to be an alum. I cannot brag about my school in the least. Heck, we aren’t even competitive now. I don’t really know what to say except that I have absolutely had it with this athletic program. It is very disappointing to say the least. I could go on a huge rant about coaching and the AD, but I don’t even have the energy to do that.

I am just sorry it has came to this point. I went to Charlotte from 99-03, the glory days of Charlotte basketball and CUSA. No one I talk to even remembers that crap at this point unless you went to Charlotte. It’s pathetic and totally uncalled for. Something must be done!!!

I guess for now I will just hang my head in disgust.

Well, if you want to form some group or protest publically and call for Judy’s resignation… I’m in.

I brought my friend to the game last night. He’s a Carolina alum, although he used to come to a fair amount of our games when he was a kid. This was the first game he’d been to since Jobey was still on the team.

We got there with 5 minutes left in the first half because traffic was an absolute nightmare and it took us a half hour to park after getting to 49. We left with about 10-12 minutes left in the second half.

It was embarrassing.

The only positive was that attendance wasn’t embarrassing, so at least we didn’t look completely small time in that regard. We certainly did on the court though.

We’re rebuilding our shitty program. And you?

Will we be in that list too?
Most likely, unless we really improve: http://www.rpiforecast.com/teams/Charlotte.html

I’d like to hope we do improve, but I really don’t know for sure that Price will be able to do that this year. We’re currently part of the problem with CUSA basketball.

Wow… with 9 wins our expected RPI will be 298… CUSA is nothing short of a complete joke when it comes to hoops.

Have we ever had an RPI of 300+ ?

we don’t now?

we don’t now?
217 right now… sadly, there are 6 lower in CUSA

76 RPI day Lutz was fired.

Expectations are a funny thing

76 RPI day Lutz was fired.

Expectations are a funny thing
I still think getting rid of him was the right move. That doesn’t mean on the other hand that the decision that was made after that was given much thought at all or done in any sort of thoughtful, reasonable, thorough manner. We hired a dud who was completely unknown and unproven

I’m somewhat in agreement.

At that time, I thought Lutz needed to go because he and Judy/Dale/Phil was ugly. Looking back on it, was there a better avail coach? Did he have the backing and resources here to compete? Major had far more tools and patience than Lutz was afforded.

Like I said. 76 to 300 is an epic fall (not Price fault at all). Was it all worth it…
