clt says that was great. The smoke line was classic.

Program died when Metro graduated. ;D

I’m really starting to think Coach K couldn’t turn this program around, until Judy goes the stench of losing will always be there, hope I’m wrong though. Maybe she will do us a favor and retire in the next 1 to 2 years right when Price can get some decent kids in here and it will all come together.

Good post.

March 18, 2005- The Niners had a 14 point lead on NC State in the NCAA Tournament and lost it in the 2nd half. It was our last game representing C-USA 1.0 because we were getting kicked out for not having a football team. We have been in a downward spiral ever since. Coincidentally (or maybe not) Phil Dubois was named our chancellor the day before that game.

I’m hoping we have hit rock bottom and Mark Price is building something that we can be proud of again. This has to be rock bottom right?

I don’t think it gets much worse than last night for Niners fan, that’s why I made the thread. Never said we wouldn’t get hit with the chest paddles and recover…

Now we’re talking :innocent:

After the loss, I didn’t think much of but 10 years later that was definitely a defining moment that sent this whole thing spiraling. Combine that with not starting football earlier and failure was inevitable.

Unfortunately I thought about it on that day. I knew there was a chance we could die a slow death unless we came into the A10 and absolutely dominated (which never happened). Even makes it worse seeing our past coaching staff sitting on the bench with the team that was our turning point loss.
Anticipated the loss. Just sucks it was from one guy and so many uncontested looks. Dude hit his first 14 shots I think I heard. He had his career night.

We played 2 walk-ons and Blakley. To some point even if our scholarship players are sucking, keep them out there to maybe shoot out of a slump. These are young guys (except for Braxton). Gotta get experience some how.
I don’t mind Price benching the better players in a blowout loss. He’s obviously sending a message. I can see a huge difference in player attitude and behavior around the bench area. There’s no doubt Price commands respect from the players as well as his immediate assistant coaches.

Things i like so far…

[ul][li]Coach pulls players when they aren’t playing with heart.[/li]
[li]Coach is honest in postgame interviews and other instances. He doesn’t bs.[/li]
[li]Coach doesn’t sound clueless in interviews but is good with the media.[/li]
[li]Coach stated that winning is the bottom line.[/li]
[li]We have an NBA all star as a coach. This has to matter on the recruiting trail.[/li]
[li]We have recruits that don’t turn the ball over much.[/li]
[li]We have shown the ability to attack zone defenses.[/li][/ul]
Really wish we had Uchebo after this year. We need another player like him. I am still excited about White and Scott. I believe that Price can teach offense, just not sure about defense; though I don’t blame him for our defensive inneficiencies at this point.

I love his statements in this article - http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/college/mens-basketball/article47461255.html

I have no idea if Price turns out to be a good coach or not, but there are definite things I like about him as HC. He commands respect and I do see changes being made.

MY 2 cents on when the program took it’s biggest hit is when Judy and Phil decided they could hire a better coach than Lutz, and we know where the program has gone from there.

i would add to that list the ball movement of the team. that is one area where we have improved greatly.

Yup… all of this

Things that I noticed from last nights game/program itself:

 • Scott’s attack mode and driving to the basket which led to lay ups or a trip to the foul line
 • Benas had two balls that went off his finger tips that actually could have been caught if he would have just jumped; his lack of boxing out and aggressiveness eliminates any thought that he will get double digit rebounds
 • If we were able to get Uchebo in a short period of time, I’m sure Price will bring a couple quality guys for next year since he has an actual year to recruit instead of a few months
 • We actually have some nice in bounds plays unlike past years
 • We shot a solid 74% from the FT line
 • We actually out rebounded them 44 to 36
 • Our student section on one end was solid, but the other end looked like they were sleeping
 • It might just be me, but there didn’t look like a true leader on the floor from the players
 • The foul count in the first half at one point was 10-3 in favor of Davidson
 • Maybe the ball movement has been the best its been all season, but it still didnt impress me
 • Most of all, I’m glad we have a coach that fires back at the refs

I’ve honestly felt like we haven’t had a true leader on the court since Goldwire graduated.

There hasn’t been any other player that I’ve trusted to put the team on his back and will them to a victory. I felt like Dorn could have been that guy, but well, you know.

True leadership and a go-to player has been missing from this program for a long, long time.
