To the Administration and Athletic Dept.

PLEASE get a damn football team so we can get out of this shitty conference. Our school has taken a 5 year leap backwards this year.

It’s simple, call the AD at South Florida and ask them how they did it. In 5 years, they make a Bowl game and end up in a solid conference.

Agree 100 times over. Think we had sparse crowds this year? With no rivalries that anyone would possibly be interested in, things are going down hill. Thanks Judy.

I suppose you would be happy with rivalries with these teams?

Rice, RPI 196
Tulsa, RPI 206
Central Florida, RPI 211
Marshall, RPI 232
Southern Mississippi, RPI 235
Tulane, RPI 247
Southern Methodist, RPI 269
East Carolina, RPI 281

For the record, the top 4 CUSA teams:

Memphis, RPI 5
Alabama Birmingham, RPI 54
Houston, RPI 56
Texas El Paso, RPI 76

I would settle for the rivalries that South Florida has. The big East doesn’t sound too bad. The Big East wanted the football and progressive attitude of South Fla, not the “we can’t do it” attitude of Charlotte.

Never thought I’d miss last years Depaul, Cincy, Memphis games in Halton so much, I remeber the intensity was just so amazing for those games, i have yet to honestly feel that this year.

SLU was in CUSA…

Yeah. Hey, Charlotte has a football team. Lets stick them in the Big Ten. No wait, lets put them into the SEC. I thinks some of you are dreaming. The reason that South Florida was invited to the Big East is because of their location in a large television.

with an endowment of only $33 million, starting football here would be really tough.

but at least you’d think with the high percentage of alum’s and students practically begging for the program, the idea would get more attention from those in charge.

i started thinking the other day that if I won the 385 million powerball last week i wouldnt trust Judy enough to give her anything. They would have to hire me instead. I doubt even if i dropped 50 million that we would get a football team in the next 6 years. Sad.

lets just snap our fingers and get a football team? A division I football team at that! hahaha you all amaze me sometimes!

The big east will split in a few years, but dont get your hopes up because we are not getting any piece of that!

have we ever tried to do a football fund raiser? im talking about something which is sponsored by the school in order to create awareness and stir up some contributions (that would only be applied to a football program).

Dr. Dubois stated that football is on the backburner and will not be seriously reviewed until every sport at Charlotte is fully funded.

He also stated that he didn’t think 1AA would work in Charlotte. My question is what openings exist for 1A? Unless there are some behind the scenes discussions with the Big East, I don’t see Charlotte playing football for a very long time.

we would have to pick up as an independent. uconn did this recently, then moved into a conference after a couple of years

I want football as much as the next person, but as much as I don’t want to admit it “fully funding” the rest of the Athletic Dept. makes sense.

How they go about doing it and how long it takes it are fair items to ask about.

But putting the cost of football ahead of the rest of the Athletic Dept. is a house of cards.

We can’t get people to spend $10 on a basketball ticket. How much do you really think this will bring?

EVEN IF you raised $10,000 doing this, it would be a drop in the bucket to what would be needed.

You have to have your current athletic programs fully funded before you start football or your athletic program can sink, in a hurry. Colin Cowherd stated on his show last week that only twelve (12) D-I football programs make a profit. 12. The only sport that consistantly makes money at most all programs is men’s basketball. Most everything else loses money, especially women’s basketball. Thus, if you bring football aboard and it becomes the monetary black hole it is likely to become, how are you going to fund the rest of the programs that are already underfunded? What usually happens is that you have to cut 2-3 men’s programs of some kind to stay in compliance with Title IX and, at the same time, stay afloat. What many do not factor into the equation is that we will also have to provide just as many female scholarships for other sports when we start football. So, whatever number it will take to have a football team (not counting the stadium), double that for providing scholarships for a badmitton, rowing, and gymnastics team for an equal number of female athletes.

Who wants to watch a baseball game? Not many people. This is not a baseball stronghold. It’s basketball and then football (with football gaining a lot of popularity in the state recently).

We will never be the best team in the state at basketball. Maybe 3rd at best. In football the spot is open for a team to emerge.

HP- I would be happy continuing to play Louisville, Cincy, Depaul, Marquette, and starting up some rivalries with WV and Syracuse. The A-10 is pretty much boring and besides GW (outside of this year I never got excited about playing them), there aren’t any games that attract fans.

Bingo.

“We can’t get people to spend $10 on a basketball ticket. How much do you really think this will bring?”

asking someone to spend $10 on a basketball game against valpo, and asking someone for whatever they are willing to spare to jumpstart a football program are two different things.

You’re complaining about the teams we’re playing??!! You mean teams like Valpo WHO WE CAN’T EVEN BEAT? Get your head out of your ass. You loose to teams with 100+ RPIs and then you bitch about wanting to be in a better conference with better teams??! And obviously, games against Indiana, George Washington, Xavier, St. Joe’s, Temple are no-name schools!! LOL!! Of course, you’re the same idiot who’d rather be playing teams in the CUSA right? See post #3. Wow, the arrogance on this board is incredible.
