You have to have your current athletic programs fully funded before you start football or your athletic program can sink, in a hurry. Colin Cowherd stated on his show last week that only twelve (12) D-I football programs make a profit. 12. The only sport that consistantly makes money at most all programs is menâs basketball. Most everything else loses money, especially womenâs basketball. Thus, if you bring football aboard and it becomes the monetary black hole it is likely to become, how are you going to fund the rest of the programs that are already underfunded? What usually happens is that you have to cut 2-3 menâs programs of some kind to stay in compliance with Title IX and, at the same time, stay afloat. What many do not factor into the equation is that we will also have to provide just as many female scholarships for other sports when we start football. So, whatever number it will take to have a football team (not counting the stadium), double that for providing scholarships for a badmitton, rowing, and gymnastics team for an equal number of female athletes.
Didnt the Hornets have an owner more concerned with making a profit than giving the city the quality product they wanted? Lets make George Shinn the Athletic Direcor. Everyone loved that guy.
You're complaining about the teams we're playing??!! You mean teams like Valpo WHO WE CAN'T EVEN BEAT? Get your head out of your ass. You loose to teams with 100+ RPIs and then you bitch about wanting to be in a better conference with better teams??! And obviously, games against Indiana, George Washington, Xavier, St. Joe's, Temple are no-name schools!! LOL!! Of course, you're the same idiot who'd rather be playing teams in the CUSA right? See post #3. Wow, the arrogance on this board is incredible.
you need to chill out. this isnt the end of the world.
and who cares if we didnt beat valpo. that has nothing to do with raising money.
btw, im not the same idiot whoâd rather be playing teams in CUSA. get your facts straight before you go on a rant that makes you look like an idiot.
Who wants to watch a baseball game? Not many people. This is not a baseball stronghold. It's basketball and then football (with football gaining a lot of popularity in the state recently).
We will never be the best team in the state at basketball. Maybe 3rd at best. In football the spot is open for a team to emerge.
HP- I would be happy continuing to play Louisville, Cincy, Depaul, Marquette, and starting up some rivalries with WV and Syracuse. The A-10 is pretty much boring and besides GW (outside of this year I never got excited about playing them), there arenât any games that attract fans.
I think that baseball could become a bigger draw in the near future. With the upcoming facility improvements, and recruiting getting better and better, what better way to spend a spring afternoon?

LOL dream on, The way this univsersity is, the only way people are going to go to the baseball games is if they make it to the College WS (Not saying that they couldnât do it). Iâm just saying that 16,000 out of the 20,000 (And those are mainly for Basketball) students at this university could care less about sports. Now if its a chance to get their face on national TV, of course theyâre in for that.
Baseball on the other hand is a sport that in my mind should get more attention, but probably wonât since a lot of students at this university are apathetic and really donât care.

George Shinn and âquality productâ do not belong together in the same sentence, and neither does the NBA. Shinn was not worried about making a profit, rather his greed required it to be a bigger profit on the backs of the taxpayers.
Generally, itâs not good business practice to invest lots of money on a likely money-losing venture when you are already in the hole.
with an endowment of only $33 million, starting football here would be really tough.
Iâm not sure where you pulled that endowment figure from, but that is flat wrong. Here are the endowments of schools in the A10.
Univeristy of Richmond: 1.2 Billion
George Washington: 825 Million
Saint Louis: 750 Million
Univeristy of Dayton: 325 Million
Fordham University: 300 Million
University of Mass: 222 Million
Temple University: 196 Million
Duquesne University: 123 Million
Xavier University: 100 Million
UNC Charlotte: 100 Million
St. Joeâs: 83 Million
Rhode Island: 71 Million
La Salle: ???
St. Bonaventure: 34 Million
A couple other schools of note:
ECU: 70 Million
South Florida: 298 Million
Memphis: 176 Million
The support we get for baseball is pathetic. And it starts at the top. I have NEVER seen Judy at a baseball game. She doesnât give a damn! And it pisses me off! Our own AD doesnât come to our games.
I was at the game yesterday and Indiana had more fans there than we did. We have a good baseball team this year. We are exciting and are going to score a ton of runs. Our pitching is a little suspect at times, except for Walker (he dominated yesterday for the 3 or 4 innings he threw).
I will be suprised if we lose 5 games in the conference this year, the A-10 is horrible in baseball.
For those of you who can make it, we play Virginia Tech tomorrow at 4 (a chance at the âmightyâ ACC). I challenge all of you to make it out to some games this year. If Judy wonât support them, then we need to!
You bet your first born, Judy wouldnât miss a basketball game. I know they are our bread and butter, but come on is it too much to ask on a spring day for our AD to be at a baseball game. I wonder if she will even bother to come down to the field when we open our new facility? My guess NO!!!

i pulled it from that US News Americas Best Colleges magazine that comes out annually ranking all universities. maybe they hadnt updated it in a while, but this years edition showed our endowment being set at 33 million. UNC was 1.2 billion, and Wake was something near 800 million.

You speak the truth Joe! She wonât miss a basketball game and she shouldnât. All Iâm asking is that she make an appearance every now and then at a baseball game. I have been going to baseball games since my freshman year in '95 and I have NEVER seen her at a game. At least act like you give a damn about the other sports Judy!
Once again, tomorrow at 4 vs. V Tech. Come support the Niners!

Iâm the first one to club Judy whenever possible, but she DID just let go of a couple $$MIL to build a new stadiumâŚas painful as it was for her.
