Transfers part of the game
Players and their families can say whatever they want. Coaches and schools can’t.
Yeah, that’s the reason for the caveats. We don’t really know if that’s how it went down. It is strange though that two different players’ family members described almost the exact same scenario.

We really lost nobody that important to the team’s success. Its not like we lost Vincent Grier without warning. Bras should just suck it up and make the most of his senior year. The tail does not wag the dog.

Agreed PB a coach can’t come out and say so and so was not good enough to play at this level so we let them go. That would hurt his and the schools reputation far more than any uncle or other family member coming out saying he was blindsided or forced out.

I’m not saying Deuce and KJ couldn’t have been successful players at this level but in the current situation it was pretty obvious they weren’t producing. Had we had a legitimate back up to Braswell I think KJ is a decent PF and probably able to avoid some of the injuries that came with being an undersized center. Deuce showed he could score at NCCU he just needs the ball in his hands and a coach that will give him the shots he needs to do it. That wasn’t happening here under Major and as much as I hate that they couldn’t succeed at Charlotte both guys will be playing somewhere else next year and hopefully finishing up their education.

If we didn’t yank Spears scholarship, I hardly doubt we yanked Deuce’s or KJ’s.

They should have transferred as soon as Lutz left, then they could have gone to a lot of places and had 2 years. It’s dumb to stay with a new coach that wants to “change things” regardless of school.

The could have transferred after the first year with Major.

I do think he wants to win, which is another reason (on top of his buddies getting booted out) why I’m scared he will leave. He could play and get serious minutes for almost any team in the country. If he stays, I think we will be good, but probably finish around 18 or 19 wins.
I am sure he wants to win, but I don’t think he would want to prolong his college career to do so. Why would he want to delay playing professionally (wherever that may be) to sit out a year due to a transfer? My guess is he could make some pretty good $$ overseas.
Bras will make serious bank overseas. He’ll probably even get some NBA workouts, but if Curt couldn’t land on an NBA squad with his athleticism, I can’t imagine Bras will either.
bras is also two inches taller than curtis and much longer. with improvement i could see him as a second round pick. he has good size for an nba power forward.

Spears was a senior and his “situation” occurred/erupted mid-season, mid school year. I don’t think the Ath. Dept. could have took his schollie away from him mid year despite kicking him off the team for what was essentially a bad attitude. Had he violated the law or a University policy, then they might could have taken it mid-year. Once you grant it for that year, they keep it the entire year unless they opt to transfer mid-semester. KJ has been informed that he won’t have one for next season. He’s still got one through the end of this semester.

In the 2 games KJ got above 20 minutes in this year, he scored in double figures.

And we got blown out of the gym in both those games.

True.

2 inches taller? Not sure about that.

Bras has a golden opportunity this season to be both 1st team A10 and perhaps even POY in the league. I cannot think of a better returning big man in the league.

He had a chance to earn himself some $ last year when he faced off against Andrew Nicholson. He did not have a good game. He needs to rectify that this year by dominating all season long. If he does, he will set himself up for a nice pro career.

Struggled against a few big guys. Miami, Temple, St Joes. But to be fair, he might have been more effective against those guys if he got to play the 4.

Bras and Withers are both 6-8. Withers was more dominant and was a brute force. Bras has more finesse.

At this point, either Major will be successful or he will not. We can over analyze how the former players were handled, or how the players accepted the new coaches. But it’s not going to change anything or bring them back.

Right now we’re in a wait and see, holding pattern. If anything the losing of former players has allowed Major another season for “rebuilding”.
I think we’re in a state of rebuilding for more than just this season regardless. We needed it and it takes a long time at this level to build back up. It took NCSU 5 years to rebuild under Sendek. They were definitely in a better place to rebuild than we were.

But losing Sherrill and Deuce is not cause for rebuilding and anyone who spins it as such is reaching pretty hard.
We can also continue to debate the state of the program. But ultimately it still comes down to whether Major can or can not get it down. My point about getting another season is that I think he’ll get a little more leeway with the time frame due to the loss of so many players. We use that excuse all the time for the '10-11 season. “We only had 7 players”.

In other words, maybe next season 19 wins would be perceived as progress. But now, with the loss of Deuce, maybe 16 wins will be the measure for progress.

We can also continue to debate how effective Deuce was. But I think making any evaluation about his true ability, in system not matched for him, is also a reach. It’s easy to criticize him due to all of Sokool’s rhetoric.

I’ll see your “it took NCSU 5 years to rebuild under Sendek” and raise you with, apparently it only took them 1 year under Gottfried.

I might be in the minority, but I actually count Deuce and KJ leaving as a positive for Major and the removal of an excuse rather than an excuse that can be applied.

In other words had they stayed we would have heard again that Deuce can’t play in Major’s system, that KJ is hurt that Deuce is Bobby’s player and that KJ was tight with Shamari.

Now with the exception of Bras this is Major’s team. He has his guys, playing his system without being the impacted by the philosophy of the previous staff. To me that means we move closer to know if Major is the man or not. If we had been losing real production from these two I can understand your point, but we aren’t. In KJs case we aren’t even losing someone who would have qualified as a solid senior leader based on behavior I have heard.

Braswell will be 23 years old by the end of 2012. This impacts his ability to make choices. Also, at that age, you are probably not going to make a dramatic choice based on what happened to your buddy, who was not an effective player and was showing a not so good attitude.

Unless Braswell really hates Major, it doesn’t seem likely that he will leave.

Also, I think he has little shot at the NBA. He doesn’t have a good body for a power-forward for the league, lacks athleticism, and doesn’t like to mix it up down low. He will be playing overseas.

The fact 2 players left should NOT affect the expectations for next year, especially when these 2 players were projected to receive little playing time. No one should buy that excuse.

16 wins next year is not acceptable, with or without Deuce and KJ. If they are valuable enough to get us extra wins, the coaching staff should have left them on the team.

State already had a loaded team when Gottfried took over. They were about as bad as we are when Sendek took over.

Lowe was a bad coach, but he didn’t bring in poor talent.

MUCH more finesse…way too much actually. He has more moves…but no athleticism, power or strength and that’s not what any pro team wants from a 6’8" PF.
He has no shot at the NBA…he may do fine overseas.
