Rivals - no stars

Scout - 2 stars

ESPN - 90 rating, 3 star

he doesnt sounds like the type of player that would play a lot here.

They say SMU doesn't get enough Texas kids, but if the Mustangs and Matt Doherty can pry him away from the new staff at Tulane (45 minutes from Baton Rouge), they will quickly adopt him as a Texa(n) at Southern Methodist University.

80+ miles in 45 minutes is pretty darn good! I never ever got anywhere close to making that kind of time when I lived in Baton Rouge in the late 80s and would drive over to the Big Easy.

Anyway, doesn’t sound like we’re really in the running for Drye, though I really like what Ivany says about his rebounding and dunking!

with the bloodline this kid has, would you not expect him to be a good dunker/rebounder? Uncle played @Kansas and won a slam dunk contest with Kobe Bryant as the runner up. father was a 6-6 athletic forward at LSU

Visiting this weekend along with Eli Carter.

ESPN breakdown:

Strengths:
Trey is an athletic combo-forward for the D-I level. He shows tremendous effort and toughness inside. His game is based off effort and athletic ability. Offensively Trey is most effective inside 15 feet. He can catch and slash to the basket against most 4’s due to his quickness. is a good rebounder. He fights for position and generally out works his opponent for boards. Drye is a solid defender as he competes and gives up very little.
Weaknesses:
Trey has a decent jump shot to 14 or 15 feet but must continue to improve this area. He does have a hard time guarding many of the elite level bigs that are larger than him.
Bottom Line:
Trey will be a good college player due to his effort. Overall, Drye is just beginning to tap into his exceptional upside.

The 6’6" Drye is one of my favorite players to have personally coached. He goes to work and gives you 100% at all times and NEVER complains. He’s had a great high school career and would like to get back to the Cajun Dome one more time for a crack at a Louisiana State Championship. Drye handles pressure as well as anyone. He’s had a heavy load to bear from the time he laced up his sneakers as he’s the son of Louis Earl (LSU) & nephew of McDonald’s All American Lester Earl (LSU & Kansas).

Tre is his own man though, and in addition to his basketball talents is also academically off the charts with a 4.2 GPA. Numerous colleges have called and many have offered too. I had a chance to speak with Coach Jeff Jones this morning regarding Drye’s recruitment. Jones, a longtime friend of mine is extremely close to Drye’s family and has been both an on and off the court mentor over the years. He coached Drye for 3 years as the Assistant at perennial powerhouse, Glen Oaks. Jones has now earned his Master’s and has moved on to become the Dean of Students & Head Coach at Madison Preparatory Academy in Baton Rouge. The common theme here is education.

LOVE that this is the kind of player Major and Co are going after…hope we land him.

If the player was a 5 stars but was schedule to have his leg amputated, ninerfan55 would probably still love him.

Drye is intriguing prospect. Great bloodline, athletic but just undersized.

Heard from a friend he was on campus today, well not exactly him, but a recruit from Texas, so I’m guessing it was Drye, since it fit the description.

Rivals had that he visited with Eli Carter. Maybe Drye couldn’t make it then and is now getting here. I hate to say it, but this kid may be plan B, in case we miss out on Nickerson.

where the heck did this come from?? this guy sounds just like Wilderness, who… is a starter.

Nickerson and Depaul concern me. Came in late . BE. Some family from Chicago and has stated he and his Mom love it there.

I was hoping this kid instead of Dawson since I would rather have a 4 year HS kid with upside than a JUCO.

This is exactly what I thought. Except, maybe Drye can actually hit his free throws!

he is but he also cant shoot and hasent improved since he got here. i love wilderness but that is true.

He’s also been hurt just about every season he’s been here. Hard to get better when you can’t practice or play.

he has not. he first got hurt as a junior, until then he didnt miss a game. there is no reason that he couldnt improve his shooting form.

He was hurt his sophomore(Stress Fracture in foot) AND junior year(Pulled calf or thigh), and he actually did take and make more jumpshots last season,

An’Juan Wilderness Hits Buzzer Beater to Down La Salle (with Matt Swierad call)

We could use both Drye and Nickerson IMO, have to replace Dewhurst and An’Juan. Mayfield is a pseudo replacement for RaShad, too bad we can’t play him for a year.

he may have made more jumpshots last year but his jumper hasent improved enough to make defenders respect his shot.
