I hate this so much.
Why do show take so much longer to film and cost so much more these days, even adjusted for inflation?

I’m going to try to enjoy the last season - hoping it’s good, but yeah, I don’t like this era of TV where it takes years to make 5 or 6 episodes of TV.
Network TV shows used to churn out 23 episodes of hour long broadcast TV per season, twice a year. I know the individual episode budgets are higher for some of these shows, but it’s slow as hell. It isn’t just the actual shooting / editing schedule that’s prolonged - it’s the preproduction hesitation and slow writing and then the quality is often crap despite all the delays.
Started binging Mr. Robot last week and am up to season two. My head is spinning, but it’s a fantastic show, imo.
It’s a very good show but I swear it very rarely lives up to that opening scene, which is fantastic. You may not see it but it reminds me the opening to Inglorious Basterds.
Is stranger things cheesy and stupid for adult males in their 40s? Or worth watching?
It’s at least 50% 80s nostalgia, so it’s basically highly oriented to gen Xers. The quality of the show varies from season to season, but on balance, it’s pretty good, with several really great moments spread across the seasons.
The kids are all like 30 now. Really bizarre to see them still playing teenagers.
Yeah, that’s one of the bad side effects of Netflix taking years between seasons with shows that involve kids .
The answer is yes.
This show must be way more popular than I thought.
I watched the first season and enjoyed it but it was just solid not really good.
With SOME parts being great some not so great.
Great production values.
I thought the writing was a little off at times and some of the spatial awareness of travel time made no sense.
I thought the lady that played Galadriel was excellent.
The character who fell out of the sky that seems like he could be a fledging wizard just plain pissed me off.
Has anyone watched the second season?
Did it improve?
Rings of Power is pretty widely panned.
Posted that with incredulity that Amazon is doubling down on such an unliked show.
The book was amazing. If you liked the show, go read it.
I tried to watch it but just couldn’t get into it.
I’ve read LOTR about 6 times and the Silmarillion twice. Loved them all.
Except the songs. I skip the songs.
I just find it fascinating that they are continuing with the series if it’s that bad.
Is it more popular than we think?
Is it a Bezos or other exec passion project?
Are they going to cut the budget?
So they simply need to create X hours of content and it’s simpler for them to keep it going than develop a new show to take its place?
Are the confident the show is improving and gaining traction?
It’s fascinating!
That was actually in reply to Say Nothing. Awesome book.
