TV Binging Thread šŸ“ŗ

Tastes differ. No series is loved by everyone.

For example I know that The Mandalorian must be really awesome. So many people love it. But I simply cannot take any more Star Wars content. It has not been good since Return of the Jedi in my opinion. It’s all rehash. But I know I’m in the minority on that.

I won’t disagree with your point, but Mandalorian is a departure from other SW content. It’s a western set in Star Wars universe. You might enjoy it.

It’s also not amazing, it’s just reassuringly good (after all the drek they put out recently).

If you want some comic relief, we’ve started watching The Righteous Gemstones on HBO.

Big Gemstones fan here. For something with a similar tone, check out Vice Principals from HBO a few years back. Another Danny McBride and Walton Goggins vehicle.

Yep, thoroughly enjoyed Vice Principals.

@Nineradvocate why haven’t you tried the Peaky Blinders yet?

Binged Reacher this weekend.

I don’t think the main actor is as good as Tom Cruise, but he much more looks the part. And he does ā€œintense gazeā€ in a way ole Tom only wishes he could. The rest of the cast does a really solid job too. Definitely worth it, IMHO.

Nice to see Amazon not F something up.

Watched the Girl From Oslo. Meh. Not horrible. The bones of a good show were there but too many plot holes. Watch Fauda if your into this type of thing.

I am beyond excited for King of the Hill to return.

For those that like Star Wars. Have any of you read the Brian Daley Han Solo trilogy of novels that came out in the 70s? Those would make good movies or even a series. Those were great books. Pure adventure. Not a bit of the force to be found anywhere.

I did not like BOBF episode 7.

The storytelling was really broken. The episode constantly asked you to care about things/ characters that were not earned. The bad guys were completely upstaged by about 2 minutes of screen time for Cad Bane, and omfg was that resolved horribly. Easily the best character on that show besides Mando, and potentially even better if they had invested more time in him and Boba in opposition during the season.

I still hated the mods or whatever the biker kids were called. Painfully superficial and distractingly out of place in terms of appearance and style… Ugh. Just awful.

I think if I could distill the show, I pretty much disliked every moment they spent in mos espa the entire season. It was all pretty terrible. I would much rather have seen Boba operating in more populated places like Coruscant with much stronger story elements and bad guys. Or if he stayed on Tattoine, why wasn’t he fighting the Hutts?

I dunno. I just didn’t like it. I also don’t know if I like what they are doing with Grogu. Seems like direction less fan service.

The best parts of this show were the Mando solo parts, which again drew heavily from Sergio Leon / spaghetti westerns. They need to jettison Boba at this point and just focus on that. We can then get the Ahsoka series for our Jedi fix.

The trailer for the Rings of Power was pretty cool. Watch the first episode and our first victory in football that same weekend in September

Rings of Power did look good visually. I hope they stick the landing. They have a visual style set by the Jackson productions that they can lean on, tweak a bit for originality and that helps.

It will be kind of cool to see the 2nd age (this is occurring in the second age right??) in full effect before middle earth was so empty and beaten down by the time of the hobbit.

But they have to make the story compelling or they have wasted

Austin Powers Doctor Evil GIF

I think it has the same problems WoT has. Inexperienced writers who think they can do it better than Tolkein, and the same corporate directed motives behind the writing.

I am hopefully going to be proven wrong. I hope it recaptures the magic of the original trilogy. But I don’t think it’ll even be as good as the Hobbit films. There is already way too much CGI involved, just like those.

Fingers crossed. I would hate to see a complete failure here due to my Tolkien love.

You and me both. The LOTR films are my favorite movies, ever. Not genre specific; I mean of all movies, period. They’re incredible.

Ok guys.

Let’s have some fun.

Name your favorite literary or comic property that you would like to see adapted WELL and brought to screen.

List the property and the format (movie or show).

I’ll start it off.

The Brian Daley Han Solo novels. Movies. They could do a trilogy on these and they could each be around 90 to 120 minutes max. Don’t even change anything. They are perfect little adventures as they are.

The Rivers of London series. Series. All the elements are their for a great long running series if cast and done well. HBO could make this a huge hit.

The Lazarus comic book series. Series. This could be a GoT sized hit if done correctly.

The Vorkosigan Series of Novels. A series of course.

The novel Dogs of War by Adrian Taiakovsky movie

Super Crooks by Mark Millar. Needs to be done as a short live action series.

The Magic Order by Mark Millar. This also could be a GoT sized hit if done well. I did read last night this is back in development at Netflix after and aborted pre production so hopefully someone knows what they have there.
