Postgame Shanchez said he wanted Brice to sit and figure out some things from the bench for a few minutes. His not starting was not a punishment.

FWIW, that sounds like a matter of semantics to me. Something happened and Coach thought it important enough to make a point of it with Williams. Since it worked, not going to question the decision to bench him at the start of the game.

After the first two minutes I thought the wheels had not only come off but were broken beyond repair then wow. That’s what this team is capable of and it makes the last two performances even more difficult to explain.

As was mentioned in the chat, Brice is establishing himself as our second best player. I also think (although I know some will disagree here) Garcia needs more minutes. He has the physical tools to be a problem.

I’m so glad there’s still hope, two minutes in today I thought there wasn’t. There’s still fight left though in this team.

It is plain and simple with Garcia I think, until he improves on D, he won’t see the floor much. He is waaaayyyy out of position on many rotations, and I know coach won’t have that. He cleans that up, he can take minutes from Risseto

Garcia needs way more minutes. Dudes talent is undeniable.

I absolutely detest this team. The WKU game and Davidson and tonight and then the App game and the game last night and the abbey. I’m glad we won but this is bullshit. Fucking get it together and play like this every game.

Really impressed by Williams can score in a lot of different ways, the whole team played great in the half court offense.

If future games are close at the end, Williams is a match up problem, will need to make sure to get him the ball.

From your keyboard to God’s ears, my friend.

Last year it was home vs away jekyll and hyde splits. This year jekyll and hyde is in a 24 hour period. So far Sanchez has only shown me his coaching style is wildly inconsistent. That has to change.

You never know what you are going to get from this team. It is like going to a restaurant and getting either a Michelin star meal or a plate of dirt.

Just a few observations. IMO this is a very mentally fragile team. With the case of many teams, shots falling changes their intensity and confidence . You can have the best X’s and O’s coach in the country but as I recall the team that throws the ball through that little round hoop the most usually wins. Major was good at ball movement but we had no clutch shooters. The last few years with Lutz we couldn’t guide the perimeter and ball movement was stagnant. Price was the victim of team mutiny. No coach is perfect, but in Sanchez’s case the team loses its intensity for stretches. Don’t tell me he coaches differently from game to game. His only problem is figuring out the frail mentally of this team.As long as he recruits well IMO the future will be just fine.

When shots aren’t falling, the coaching staff should run a set play meant to get an open look or easy bucket. Our staff doesn’t. It falls on the players, they tend to press a bit and the situation tends to exacerbate.

Still have to make the shot even when you have an ā€œopen lookā€. Some days you do, some days you don’t.

They have lacked a leader this year on the floor. No one has stepped up.

Something else I’ve noticed. It seems we create space for a good % shot , then pass it up for a worse shot.i guess ā€œtentativeā€ might best describe it but damn we seem to do it more than other teams. Anybody else agree?

We are usually passing up open shots because we aren’t deep enough into the shot clock. Part of our offensive philosophy is to lower the number of possessions by using more clock. IMO this puts undue importance on every possession for us. The kids put too much pressure on themselves as they are trying to play in the system. It restricts freedom and makes kids second guess themselves which absolutely impacts confidence. We would be better off running a more free flowing system with a few set plays so that when our offense starts to falter we have some concretes plays we can go to to calm our nerves.

The pump fakes in the lane drive me crazy. Four fakes then a weak layup attempt that still gets blocked.

Set play? What is a set play? Does not compute.
