Running threadgill off a few screens, isolating Jahmir etc - man those would be nice.
I absolutely believe until we set set a couple screens for threadgill and he can perfect catch and release he will be woefully underutilized. Having him catch the ball on the perimeter in a swing pass motion while defenders are rotating into position does not put him into a position to succeed.
On this subject------I am constantly amazed at how FEW attempts our guards (particularly Young) make to dribble penetrate. Young can take his man off the dribble 90% of the time (I think) if he would just do it. He almost always is successful when he tries to, but only does it on occasion. Drives me nuts, especially when other teams seem to drive at us at will.
It isnāt part of our scheme.
exactlyā¦but it should be
No, we are the only team in the US that plays defense when we are on offense.
Iād like to have a dollar for every time I saw us set a screen (or a lot times double screens) for Jobey Thomas. Would love to see that again!
Jobey Diego Demon Thomas Henry Terell Johnson Howard Downs Davis Zimmerman Tolliver Plavich
Double screens are so hard to guard in real time. I think the criticism of our players (generally, no necessarily in this thread) is unwarranted. I think barring injuries we have a group of guys in place that can win CUSA. The scheme, especially on the offensive side, is the real limiting factor to their success.
Jobey looked just like Threadgill his freshman year. He was just a catch and shoot guy until he really worked on his driving before his second season and than turned into a total player.
Threadgill just looks to me like everytime he gets ready to release a shot, he looks like he has a fear of missing instead of being comfortable and loose.
Has to be an underlying reason for that.
hes a freshman
Reading too much into it.
Weāve got armchair coaches. We donāt need to add armchair psychologists
Iām not so sure, after all these years of losing the fan base needs all the psychologists it can get haha
Sanchez is a micro manager. Period. He does not induce confidence from that trait. Too much thinking about where you are at and what you are suppose to be doing instead of just playing and having a natural game flow.
Jobey made 61 three pointers his freshman year and shot 39% from 3. Threadgill has made 9 three pointers this year at a 33% clip.
I think Jackson will be fine but Lutzās offense was much more suited to give a player like Jobey catch and shoot opportunities. Sanchezās sets just make Jackson seem uncomfortable getting the ball. Heās looked uncomfortable.
Thanks for clarifying this. I KNEW Jobey shot more and scored much more. I was too lazy to look it up. So, there it is.
Like beauty, micro management is in the eye of the beholder.
I like watching a YMCA game, too, but D1 basketball is a different game.
I can quote Sanchez as saying that he tells his players there are about 13 of them and 1 of him and he canāt adapt to 13 different people whereas they individually can adapt to him. That actually makes sense to me. Iād call that discipline, not micro managementā¦
Disagree if you like.
Iād be curious whether you think youāve seen enough to reasonably expect this team to turn the corner and be an NCAA team by year four or five, and if so, what have you seen that makes you feel that way @4ever_niner.
