I think they are probably my favorite band at the moment. Their entire cataloge is so strong. They are playing in Wilkesboro next weekend.

Let me rephrase that, when it gets played after I’ve had 5 jager bombs, a few beers, and some rum, it makes me tired. I’d probably agree with you on their musical capacity if I could remember wtf it sounded like or what the lyrics were saying.

I gotta disagree with ya man
There’s literally not one band above that I really wanna see. How many bands from say coachella this weekend, will play in Charlotte this year? One? (Jay-Z?)
And hey, some of those 90s has-beens can still really rock!
Ughhh… yes, by 99.7’s tired playlist and 90’s 106.5 The End’s standards.
Charlotte is a guaranteed sellout for an Eagles tour where tickets cost between $100 and $250. Taken together with my Coachella comparison, that makes for a dreadful music scene. The average tour that stops here is sponsored by Wal Mart.
I thought the new booking team at NT would help. So far, nada.
You’re NinerAdvocate … today, I am Devil’sAdvocate …
David Guetta and Benny Benassi have both been in Charlotte in the last 12 months - both were at Coachella. I suppose it just depends on what kind of music you listen to as to what your perspective on the subject would be.
That’s 2 out of the 131 artists that took the main stages at Coachella (assuming they were main stage artists). Toss in The Avett brothers, and maybe 3 more, and we’ll call it 6… or about 4.5% of the Coachella lineup, and none of the major draws…
It’s not that we never get any of those artists, it’s just that we get 20 eagles or springsteen or tired 90s band shows for every one of those.
Heheh … I hear ya, I’m just pickin’ anyway. I figured I’d toss out a different sort of live music that doesn’t seem to make this thread.

Speaking of Coachella 2010 bands, went to the Porcupine Tree show last night at Amos’. Pretty amazing band, though they had to pare down the visuals just due to the logistics of the venue. Yes, they announced no cameras or recording devices prior to the show (felt like I was at one of my daughter’s performances at Children’s Theatre!), but just a few groans about that. It’s also true that Steven Wilson performs barefooted. Funny seeing one of the roadies running a vacuum cleaner on the carpet right before PT hit the stage (and during the encore segment, bassist Colin Edward took his turn with the Hoover as well)!
As advertised, PT opened by performing the 14-track The Incident in its entirety. After a 10-minute break, they came back on and played another 7 songs, followed by a 2-song encore. Wilson commented on being in Charlotte for the first time and made some references to the high-caliber of soccer played in North Carolina (took me a moment before I realized he was referring to the women’s team at UNC-CH!). Anyway, Amos’ was full and Wilson took note of that, saying that they would have to return and peform at a venue that would allow the full visual-side of their show (and hopefully one with better acoustics!!!).
Only thing my son didn’t like was the lack of moshing, but that allowed me to actually get up near the stage for a change! On average an older crowd, though I did see a number of teens in addition to the one I brought with me. Definitely one of the better shows I’ve seen in some time.
On the topic of the Avett Brothers… “Laundry Room” and “The Ballad of Love and Hate” are two of the most amazing lyrical songs I’ve ever heard.
Tool is beginning to announce dates for a summer tour. I highly doubt they come back to NC after the Charlotte show last year. I will definitely be down for a road trip.

Last night during the intermission of the Porcupine Tree show, my son remarked that PT reminded him of Tool. I don’t hear that, though I do find some similarities in some of videos by each band.

Well Maynard is a giant dbag already, but at the start of the concert some bastard kept shining a laser pointer at him causing him to turnaround and sing with his back turned the entire show. Not only that the crowd was REALLY rough on the floor…really surprised they had GA seating for that. I would be surprised if they came back to Charlotte after that.
They both are progressive rock/metal so I could see some similarites in that, but neither sound identical…at least I don’t think so. The cover of In Absentia though seems to almost be taken straight from Adam Jones’ (Tool’s guitar player) creation in this video- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07pLGIgyfjw
If you’re interested in seeing Korn on Monday night at the Fillmore, $20 tix are available at Livenation.com until tonight at 11:59pm.

Really like their current drummer, Ray Luzier. Saw him when he was playing with Army of Anyone (side project of STP’s Robert and Dean DeLeo and Filter’s Robert Patrick). Visually, his playing reminds me of the late, great Keith Moon - totally spastic and yet totally in control!
Totally agree. Laundry Room blows me away every time I listen to it. Such a great band!
Wooten is an AMAZING bassist…might have to check this one out.
Really?
Don't push me out, just a little longer Stall your mother, disregard ur fathers words.Close the laundry door,
tiptoe across the floor
Keep your clothes on,
I got all that I can take
Teach me how to use
the love that people say you madeStop your parents car
i just thought you’d ignore
We can wish upon it
but we wont share the wish we made
But i cant keep no secrets,
I wish that you would always stay
Last night i dreamt the whole night long
I woke with a head full of songs
i spent the whole day
I wrote em down but its a shame
Tonight i’ll burn the lyrics,
cause every chorus was your nameBreak this tired old routine,
and this time dont make me leaveI am a breathing time machine,
i’ll take you on for a ride
Lyrics from the last few songs on my playlist (In fairness, I’m leaving off Flaming Lips - Vein of Stars, Little Joy - Next Time Around, and Doves - Lost Souls):
Your Ex-Lover is Dead - Stars
God, that was strange to see you again
Introduced by a friend of a friend
Smiled and said, "Yes, I think we’ve met before"
In that instant it started to pour
Captured a taxi despite all the rain
We drove in silence across Pont Champlain
And all of that time you thought I was sad
I was trying to remember your name
This scar is a fleck on my porcelain skin
You tried to reach deep but you never got in
And now you’re outside me, you see all the beauty
Repent all your sin
Nothing but time and a face that you’ll lose
I chose to feel it and you couldn’t choose
I’ll write you a postcard, I’ll send you the news
From the house down the road from real love
Live through this and you won’t look back
Live through this and you won’t look back
Live through this and you won’t look back
There’s one thing I have to say so I’ll be brave
You were what I wanted
I gave what I gave
I’m not sorry I met you
I’m not sorry it’s over
I’m not sorry there’s nothing to save
I’m not sorry there’s nothing to save
The Mistress Witch of McClure - Sufjan Stevens
[ul][li] And the winter moves about Illinois
When my sister picks a fight
With the Alexander boy
And my father locks the car
By the store
Still we figure out the keys
And follow him once more
Oh my God
We see it on the floor
The woman on the bed
The ankle brace she wore
Stones and sled
It could have been some other
The mind that knows itself
Has a mind to serve the other
And we run back
Scratching at the door
Scratching at the door
If I’m hiding in the sleeves
Of my coat
When my father runs undressed
He’s pointing at my throat
And my brother has a fit
In the snow
And the traffic stops for miles
We take him by the elbow
Oh my God
The shuffling at the floor
A mind that knows itself
Is a mind that knows much more
So we run back
Scrambling for cover
A mind that knows itself
Has a mind to kill the other
(Oh my God
No one came to our side
To carry us away from danger)
Oh my God
He left us now for dead
He left us now for dead

[li]Stuck Between Stations - The Hold Steady
There are nights when I think Sal Paradise was right.
Boys and Girls in America have such a sad time together.
Sucking off each other at the demonstrations
Making sure their makeup’s straight
Crushing one another with colossal expectations.
Dependent, undisciplined, and sleeping late.
She was a really cool kisser and she wasn’t all that strict of a Christian.
She was a damn good dancer but she wasn’t all that great of a girlfriend.
She likes the warm feeling but she’s tired of all the dehydration.
Most nights are crystal clear
But tonight it’s like she’s stuck between stations
On the radio.
The devil and John Berryman
Took a walk together.
They ended up on Washington
Talking to the river.
He said "I’ve surrounded myself with doctors
And deep thinkers.
But big heads with soft bodies
Make for lousy lovers."
There was that night that we thought John Berryman could fly.
But he didn’t
So he died.
She said "You’re pretty good with words
But words won’t save your life.
And they didn’t.
So he died.
He was drunk and exhausted but he was critically acclaimed and respected.
He loved the Golden Gophers but he hated all the drawn out winters.
He likes the warm feeling but he’s tired of all the dehydration
Most nights were kind of fuzzy
But that last night he had total retention.
These Twin Cities kisses
Sound like clicks and hisses.
We all tumbled down and
Drowned in the Mississippi River.
We drink
We dry up
Then we crumble to dust.
we get wet
we corrode
and now we’re covered up in rust [/li][/ul]
