UTEP Postgame

It was just a joke about Denzel Ingram and Marcus Bryan, both have started some games. Bryan would have still been playing minutes on this squad simply for size and rebounding.
It is worth noting that the improved look is coming against mostly really bad teams. We’ve only beaten 3 teams expected to be top 200 in rpi, Furman (175), Marshall (124), Western Kentucky (185). Thanks to CUSA’s overall weakness (22nd best conference in rpi, wow is that bad…), we’ve only played one team better than 100 rpi since the new year, UAB. So you have to consider that this later season improvement is in part due to a weaker schedule (I’d argue our weakest ever by far), with the quality of wins being at best only slightly better than what we had earlier in the season.

What’s probably more encouraging to me is that the mediocre teams aren’t just handling us like earlier in the season, no blowouts, and we just kind of look better. But I’m still not sure what to think about the future and the lack of improvement on D (considering the quality of opponents) is concerning to me.
I really don’t care about our RPI until we start winning 20+ games per season and are a top two team in CUSA. Generally we play a tough (this season too tough) non-conference schedule. If we can win a couple power 5 games in non-conference and drop four less conference games then we can start complaining about our crappy and a tourney snub.

This years Out of Conference Strength of Schedule (SOS) was 200+. Maybe too tough for this years team since we didn’t do to well but shouldn’t be too tough as a general rule.

Blasphemy!

Tis true - but we are performing better against those teams than we have in the recent past with a inexperienced coaching staff and roster.

Yes we have defensive deficiencies but most can be explained by quite honestly more of our size and inexperience than just incompetence. Opponents have shot very well against us and when confidence builds they find it easier to overachieve. I’m confident Price will overcome all these problems (easier to fix than offense) and you’ll see we’re a lot closer to being relevant than a lot of you believe. In fact I’m so impressed that I’ll be at the tournament for the first time in 10 years. Hope to see many of you there.

why cant cusa have the semi final games and championship game at the highest seeds home court instead of neutral site

Birmingham and charlotte are realistically the best places to have the tournament. Both cities have a number of schools within a reasonable drive. My vote is to keep it in Birmingham though. It’s good for us, uab, mt, wku, usm, la tech, and isn’t terrible for marshall either. Nt, utsa, and the Florida schools don’t care about basketball anyway snd wouldn’t have fans show up if they hosted it in their own cities

Despite a losing record this has been the best season in a long time. Not sure why considering the record, but something just feels better about where we are.

Chances of this happening are slim to none but this is my dream.

We win the conference tourney in a historic upset run, then because of our losing record we are in the ā€œfirst fourā€ on campus NCAA tournament games and we have a game at Halton.

Which we win in a Rice like blowout.

Sending the Niners into the round of 64.

thats the dream.

I can dream can’t I?
I believe the first 4 in games are still in Dayton.
That’s horrible. They need to spread the love around and let it travel.

Schools do last minute home games for NIT. No reason they can’t for this.

I’m sure it would cost a bit to have TV at various locations instead of just one. You would likely lose the court branding as well.
