This one hurts. Honestly wasnât bothered much by the USM, FIU, Marshall, or even the MTSU losses, but this one is hard to make excuses for. Sure losing Kalif was tough, but lack of discipline from our players, and overall poor coaching cost us this game against a bad UTSA team. That pass there at the end was reminiscent of last years Super Bowl. Just run the freaking ball.
Officiating was an absolute disgrace. Both teams made mistakes, but the refs absolutely stole a touchdown from us and Winchester DID intercept that pass, as Damien Lewis said in postgame.
Whatever mistakes these guys made today, they deserved that win and to take it from them is absolutely wrong
And I am really tired of shoutbox heroes not holding shitty refs accountable. Make either game changing call correctly and the Niners win comfortably.
Yes we got shafted by the refs. But that isnât under our control. What was under our control was the play calling. Our team fought hard and were in a position to win the game DESPITE the bad calls and their leadership let them down. They deserved better today. They really did. So did the crowd and everyone watching on TV that couldnât make it.

just name me next time.
bad calls happen. Thereâs nothing we can do about it. We can fix: an entire scoreless first 25 min, taking FGs at the half (-3 points), punting more than 22 yards (lead to a TD), we extended drives on FOUR 4th downs, missed 2 FGs (Iâll say -3 since 52 is a bomb), horrible play calling at 1st and 4.
85 or 47 fell down on that MJ INT. He never should have forced the pass to the edge, but if our TE/H doesnât fall down, Matt has a gimme TD pass. He was wide open.
Might as well blame Barden for overthrowing wide open Bostick earlier. Donât put it all on Matt, and that playcall was nowhere near the worst thing our OC did today
Was at the game. The refâs were absolute garbage. Still not sure what call they were making after the long pass in OT (reviewing something after we ran another play?)
I donât know what is meant by âholding refs aaccountableâ, should we find em in the parking lot after? That being said, the refâs stole this win from us, but we lost the game ourselves.
The assumption here is that the OC made the play call.
And I respectfully disagree and believe very strongly that calling a pass play on 2nd goal on the 2 yard line with a QB that has had interception issues but has been gaining short yardage all game and Not to mention that it was in OT and we didnât HAVE to have a TD was indeed the worst call made by the OC all day.
I would never blame the player on this. Itâs simply a bad call.
Iâm beginning to think Brad Lambert and his staff just arenât winners. FAU, ODU, and UTSA. all game we should have won but walk away with bitter losses. We are a young team, but the game plans and play calling are hampering the team, not helping.
Completely agree that the refs should be held accountable, that was an interception and the announcers seemed just as baffled as all of us probably were. But our play calling and lack of discipline put us in a position to lose the game and that cannot be disregarded.
This loss hurts because itâs a game where we clearly outplayed our opponent and should have won. I blame the following.
- The fake field goal at the end of the first half. Why?
- The bullshit offensive pass interference call that nullified a touchdown.
- Other terrible calls that always seemed to go against us. I had a feeling we might be screwed when the ref referred to us as "unc Charlotte".
- The interception at the end of the game. What were we doing?
Does anyone know what the review was for in OT? My wife and I thought they were reviewing the punch thrown by UTSA #32. But when he came back it sounded like he was reviewing the fumble from 2 plays before. And it sounded like he said UTSA recovered but then we kept the ball? Any idea what happened there?
We had no clue what they were reviewing or why. The corner (GA) ssectionseemed to see something that should have been flagged on the inside run after tthe fumbled(perhaps the punch you mmention), but when therrefâscame back from review, it sounded like they were revieing thefumble from 2 plays prior (like you thought). Iâm not blaming the loss on the refs, but they were straight garbage.

32 definitely threw a punch and the refs threw a flag. We instigated the punch so I understand calling offsetting penalties. But to just pick up the flag and say there was no penalty was garbage. Still donât understand the review.
