Thought I’d get a few opinions from the veterans on the board. I’ve been a Charlotte fan since I started as a student in '08, and VCU sure feels like the biggest game this late in the year since then. What’s everyone else think? Biggest since '05? Interested to hear.
The 2010 home game against Xavier was huge, our collapse was just a 2 game losing streak. A win could have restored momentum and a loss could have… done exactly what it did. We were in better position going into that game than this one, as far as an NCAA resume goes.
We lost by 14.
They have had some recent success but it’s just another game in the A-10 this year. Their only impressive wins have been Memphis and Belmont, that is being generous.
Biggest game since @ Temple.

Given our current bubble status I would have to agree. If this year is being excluded then the X game mentioned above would be correct IMO.
…sliced bread, MJ had a sleep over, Armstrong ran a clean race…

Yep. Biggest since the last game.
Can I wait until after the game to tell you how big the game is? If we win, it will be HUGE. If we lose, it will be another loss to a highly regarded team.
VCU was in Final 4 2 years ago, so biggest game since at Cuse when Cuse was defending champ.

True, dat. To stay in the hunt, we need this game. How’re ticket sales going? Maybe a sellout?
Noticed a BOGO offer in today’s printed Big O sports section, so that’s says something about ticket sales.
Anyway, definitely biggest home game this year both as an opponent (league or otherwise) and to keep up with the A-10 elite during the 2nd half of the conference sked.
If not counting games this season then I say biggest since temple bobbys last year. The Niners are back!

No way. That win/game over #18 Louisville or #7 Tennessee was way bigger
Why does everyone think VCU is that good? They lost at home to La Salle and at Richmond and their wins over St Joes, URI and St Bonaventure all came by seven points or under. [/size]
cringe @ “the Niners are back”…they were back until that proclamation was made lol
I would agree that was our last big game not counting games this season, as well as our last BIG win.
As for #7 Tennessee and #18 Louisville, while both were nice wins, I don’t put as much emphasis on those two and here’s why. Louisville at the time was missing their 2 best players. That is why we flat out destroyed them on their court by 22 (then they lost their very next game to Western Carolina). They fell out of the polls and stayed out and wound up 20-13 and 1-and-done in the Dance. As for Tennessee, they had already lost their previous game to Oakland before facing us, and as it turned out, they were wayyyyyyyyy overrated, finishing up 19-15, went 1-and-done and got embarrassed by 30 to Michigan, and then Bruce Pearl got canned.

I know, I was at that game. My first ever time seeing the 49ers in person and what a great night it was ;D Roll into Louisville as 17 point underdogs and come out there with a 22 point win.
I know what your saying, both teams dropped out of the polls not long after, but still great wins.
I just don’t think VCU is as great as people say given their previous results in conference play. This is a completely different team to the one that went to the final four.

Playing around with ticketreturn.com, it looks like all of the gold, orange, and blue sections are sold. There’s about 100 remaining in the red section, and about 150 in the green, all in the back rows.

what makes a game “big” goes beyond a ranking or the name on a jersey. it is about what is on the line vs an important opponent. tonight is about more than just a game vs a name people know and it is about hopes of dancing.
Exactly, the importance this game (not counting remaining games) seems to have on our tourney chances is why I consider it to be one of our biggest in recent memory. Either way, lets bring it tonight Niner Nation!!
