The elbow swinging was a legitimate move. Heās allowed to move within his space. It was the Wake guyās fault for being all up on him.
I want to see Curry try to get shots up over Coleyā¦
This is going to be a hell of a game. We can beat them inside because we have the players to attack the zone which they will no doubt be using a lot. Halton is gonna be rockin!
Davidson is a very good team. However, the Niners are much more athletic. Hopefully, we shut them down. This should be good.

The one thing that will determine this game is which team can control the tempo. It it is a fast, scrappy game, we will win. If they turn it into a half court slow matchup, weāre in trouble.
My seat was basically on the courtā¦LD Williams should not be allowed on a basketball court. Teague was talking a lot of trash to Leemire, also.
As far as Davidson, Iāll post my preview in a bit, but from the game I playedā¦it seemed like Davidson played like us last year. Get them down a little with fast breaks/going inside and then they forced bad shots and they are small and ineffective inside. Preview coming soon.
Davidson is a huge game. We need a big crowd and we need Halton to be LOUD!!! Next week is a HUGE week for Niner Nation!!
the one thing I noticed was the students were loud as always, but the older crowd (alums, donors, season ticket holders, walk-ups off the street, whomever that would include) they were on their feet and got loud throughout.
IMO we need to call them out! Tell them to get their butts up to Halton. I think the students will be there and be loud. Its the other side of Halton that needs to show up and GET LOUD!
I saw a lot of people with beer in their hands and maybe that had an effect on them āopening upā and getting into the game. If that is the case, down a 12 pack in the west deck prior to coming in.
With that said I think Bobcats arena and the whole uptown scene led to a lot of the excitement. I might head down for the Duke game tomorrow. Just to see how it compares in person.
Iām a tad worried about how our offense will fare against Davidson. If I remember right, Davidson played a bunch of zone against chapel hill, and ellington had a nice night shooting over it. Iām not sure we have the shooters to do this right now (maybe Lee gets back on track?). I hope Lutz comes up with a better game plan to attack a zone this time around, given our shooters consistent struggles from outside. I also think their point guard is good enough to handle our pressure man-to-man, which means we better play tight against those backdoors and rotating on the perimeter (or Curry and the pg will have career nights against us). Davidson looks to be a team made to give us trouble, kind of like Monmouth.
The home crowd should be a nice advantage for us next week. They should have some trouble with our athleticism, particularly if we can penetrate their zone with Wilderness or dijuan driving and dishing (putting pressure on their zone and maybe freeing up Lee a bit more). I bet Coley has a field day blocking shots down low. Hopefully the zebras call the cheap shots and holds theyāre going to be using to slow us down.
I see Lamont Mack as a key. Heās got the size and skills to be an effective zone breaker (good shooting, should also be a perfect high post player) but heās got to make better decisions with the ball. I really hope we work on alternative approaches to beating the zone besides just shooting over it this week.
Davidson is a good team this year. I have no idea how we go after them. In man, I have a feeling we get backdoored, and they are too legitimate from behind the 3 point line to play much zone.
But after seeing last yearās game, at least I know this team is going to never, ever, ever quit. Watching the end of last yearās game was semi-traumatic. Nobody seemed to care.
We need to play to OUR strengths cakewalk. I am convinced of that. If there are some situations that call for matchup zone, or whatever, fine, but weāre best playing man & applying pressure on the ball.

I agree, I think we can frustrate them with our D, especially Harris on their point. Harris will be keyā¦
Curry is the key of course. He is going to get 20-25, the trick is to make him hoist it 25 times to get it and get the loose balls off of the long rebounds.
They are well coached but canāt compete inside I donāt believe. We also need to cover the outside and not give open looks to the stand-still shooters. Our big guys should have an advantage athletically, so we shouldnāt have to double-down much and can stay on the perimeter guys. That may be all the edge we need if we donāt go three happy on the other end.
Now that we saw what the Wildcats did at Cameron Indoor, can we beat Davidson?
Iām sure Davidson is raving mad and will see us as some redemption. Weāll see.

That game was at Bobcats arena, not at Cameron, and there appeared to be a lot more Davidson fans than Dookies. That was basically a Davidson home game. Still, it will be tough, but we need to control the tempo. If we make it into a sloppy, scrappy, fast pased game, we can win. Especially in front of an intense Halton crowd.
I just got home from the Davidson/Duke game. The lower bowl was at least tow thirds and maybe even thre quarters Davidson fans.

observations? that game was a lot closer than I expectedā¦hanging with the #7 team in the country like thatā¦iām hoping that took a toll on them.

DING DING DING!!! He is exactly that. Wilderness and Dewhurst could be effective two catching it there, giving a pump fake and going to the rim. Thatās just a bit tougher. Iāve also heard Phil doesnāt have a bad jump shot at all, and appears to be a good passer.

2-3 is would be a death wish against them, but to give a different look, a 3-2 would be effective with someone like wilderness or dewhurst up top. Their length would be effective to deny penetration, long shots, theyāre both quick enough to hang with guards, and with their size they can bump guys off as they rotate around the top of the key, making a catch and shoot much tougher.
I only watched about 10 minutes of it but it looks like we should make Curry drive not only b/c heās deadly from three but he makes bad decisions trying to get too deep. We definitely need him in foul trouble.
