WBB - Education Day - We Want 104 Back

Section 104 was given to visiting gradeschool kids for the noon WBB game tomorrow for Education Day. Minor rebellion in Twitter in response http://twitter.com/#!/search/%23WeWant104Back

Some info on Education Day and more info here.

Last year they moved the students over one section to behind the bench. For one game, why is this a big deal? BTW, education day is a great thing, I guess, but for a lot of people, it’s a minor butt pain. The team and coaches can’t exactly have a normal game day routine playing at noon on a weekday. The non student fans can’t exactly take time off from work to attend. All for a good cause, so buck up and enjoy from slightly right of center.

104 is the symbolic heart of Niner Nation. The students who sit there in many cases are the students who put the most effort in to supporting 49er athletics. Telling us that if we go to the game we cannot sit in 104 is a slap to the face.

Alumni, I’m really starting to see where many of you are coming from. If it weren’t for many of us, Halton would be a dead zone, and we’re just swept aside to make room.

It’s a women’s basketball game at noon.

Get over it.

The kids get to experience the honor of being in 104.

Thousands of screaming kids. It won’t be deadzone tomorrow. Enjoy being at the game.

I really dont get why this is such a big deal.

It’s a weekday WBB game, in the middle of the day.

It’s also a change that’s being made to benefit a bunch of children. CHILDREN.

“Slap to the face” my ass. Grow up.

I think it is true that Niner fans are not born, they are made, so use this game to plant the seeds and maybe one day some of these kids will be camping out for those seats. I look forward to seeing you lunatics lighting it up tomorrow night. Go Niners!

It is awesome that we’re gonna get a bunch of kids the experience of sitting front row, center court for a d1 college basketball program.

Indeed.

Yeah, some of us aren’t too happy about being told we’re not allowed to sit where we normally do. Some of us expressed that on twitter. This thread has made it a much bigger deal than it really is. It never was the kids coming to the game, it was simply that the AD was telling us that if we want to go to the game, we have to sit elsewhere.

In all honesty, the real source of my displeasure isn’t so much with just this instance, but what I feel like is a constant trivialization by the athletic dept of those of us who do put in the most time and effort to supporting athletics. This is just another block in a Jenga tower that’s been growing steadily taller over the last year or so.

But we can sit there for the men’s game right?

Oh yeah, of course. WBB is at noon, MBB is at 7? 7:30? Something like that.

Ha… forcing students out of 104 for a MBB game? They know better than that…

Nah, let the kids have it… I just think the AD could have thought this whole thing through a bit better.

They taking 104 away!!!

Pretty much sums up my opinion on the topic.

So the AD has offered up prime seats to elementary school children from (judging by the names of the schools on the list) some of the most fragile communities in Charlotte thus giving them a one time experience they would more than likely never receive on their own and students are upset at the AD over this? For a womans basketball game at noon for that matter?

Really? This is a real gripe by some people who actually walk on the same planet that I do and not just some parody thread that I don’t understand?

Its amazing to me the length that people will go to in order to find offence in some perceived slight. Like, I’m actually stunned at how petty and douchey this is.

“OMG they are moving my free seats to a womans basketball game over 1 section to make room for poor grade school children. The AD DOESNT CARE ABOUT THE HEART OF NINERNATION!!!”

This is why terrorist hate us.

I do think this is pretty crazy and is not that big a deal. What I don’t understand is why the AD gave away 104? It is a women’s game there will be plenty of seats through out the arena. Why not give away one of the sections on either side of 104 and let 104 remain with the students. Just seems like a simple thing that once again our AD has overlooked. I really am faulting the AD for not thinking this through to a place where everyone would be happy.
