I like it.
I like the hire.
And I like the way it went down. No drama from what I could see.
When’s the last time we hired a coach with this much head coaching experience?
Boom! Less than a week to lock him in
Hopefully some of those funds are going towards a name change.
Hal Wissel.
Not funny
Not being funny.
I like it. A previous HC, not too old, that has made it to the tournament. I think his college basketball resume looks better on paper than our last head coach. So on paper, it’s a win.
I thought the announcement hype video was nicely done. Wish Miller the best. Tall task ahead to make the basketball program relevant again.
Full Press Release:
They could have left this out
“A fan favorite at UNC, Miller also authored a book entitled The Road to Blue Heaven, which was published as a diary of his experiences as a North Carolina basketball player.”
Hard to be too critical of anything else. This looks like a solid hire. A- given where we are. Hopefully he turns it into an A+ performance.
And so now our watch begins:
If we can retain Bonke, Bradford and Conyers, and make sure Villar and Gomez don’t go back to Spain, adding them to Elliott and Eyenga, then Miller has a good core to start with. Mainly needs to go out and find some scorers to replace Mingo and Harrison.
Bonke is key though. We have NLI. Not as much as others, but maybe he likes it here and Miller can convince him to stay.

Red Ventures CEO and local billionaire Ric Elias has been instrumental in the change for Charlotte, reportedly assisting with Fearne’s $1.5 million buyout and Miller’s hire.

Hunter also talks about how small our hoops budget has been relative to other AAC programs (below ECU). I think that is changing.
Bonke is gone from what I’ve heard. Already been tampered with and deal in place even before Fearne was fired
That’s because Hunter (and others) have misinterpreted the numbers recently provided by Matt Brown of Extra Points:
These numbers DO NOT INCLUDE PLAYER COMPENSATION.
They’re the figures that each school reported to the NCAA for stuff like coach salaries, travel, meals, admin staff, etc.
