I havenāt seen a single person demand a glamourous or big name. Where did someone do that? Iāve seen several people saying we should hire the best coach we can get, which is exactly what we should do, and we should ignore any and all recency bias re: our interim head coach, especially if he finishes the season the way he started itā¦ around (technically under) .500.
Dont see demand anywhere in my message. Maybe clamoring was the wrong wordā¦suggesting ?

I personally think if Fearne goes .500 he should be National Coach of the Year
I remember when there was thread conversations about Price being hired away by Ga Tech. I feel like there was another basketball coach where being hired away was bright up. Guess it would have had to be major or Sanchez. Funny looking back. Orā¦. Maybe Iām just thinking Healy.
Agree 100% Hootie. It is amazing that he has the team playing together this well.
Not sure what people expect from him. Seem to forget what he was handed.

Sanchez, Price and WIll were all discussed as being hired away.
Our roster isnt great but thats a stretch. This roster is good enough to win 16-18
People get all hyped up over complete nonsense. Mark Price was never going to go to Ga. Tech with his results here. It would have been a different story if heād had a few great seasons.
Money canāt buy happiness and it certainly canāt buy guaranteed winning seasons. Ask every major program about the $$s they are paying fired coaches.
I think Fearne finishing above 500 in conference will and should give him a leg up.
Not seen a name on this board yet that makes me feel like we have an instant turnaround. Way too many variables in todays ācollegiateā basketball.

Top three in regular season conference standings plus two conference tournament wins. I donāt necessarily think thatās a fair standard given the situation he was handed, but Mike Hill is going to want to hire someone new in my opinion.
I desperately want to hire a big name big splash hire more than anythingā¦because I want MBB back. Weāre a basketball school. THAT is our tradition and I want us to drop a bag to get it back.
However, a big splash hire is not guarantee eitherā¦NIL complicates thingsā¦and whoās to say how long the big splash hire would stay if successful anyway??
After nearly 20yrs of bad luck with bad hiresā¦I almost think we are simply due to stumble into a good coach. Maybe that is Fearne. Donāt think heās proven it quite yetā¦but if he finishes Top 4-5 in the league with THIS roster after how Ron left and wins at least 1 Conf Tourney gameā¦maybe that proves he can really coach.
Actuallyā¦if Hill were to hire him after his 1 season as HCā¦if would be the most D1 HC experienced hire Mike Hill has had in either revenue sport since heās been here (Healy was D1 at Austin Peayā¦but lower FCS division).
Soā¦if the floor is actually employing a coach that can coach a D1 teamā¦thatās better than anything else weāve had in 20yrs. Hire him on the cheap since itās his 1st HC gigā¦let him drop a huge bag on assistants and bring in a couple of stud recruiters.
Iād be ok with that. He needs to do more to prove it but maybe Fearne is the Odom we didnāt give a chance to. Maybe we stumble and luck into someone for a change. Maybe itās our MO. Since Mullinsā¦our 2 best coaches were 49er bench assistants that we stumbled/lucked into because they were already here.
I still want the splash hireā¦but an eye opening close to this season would make the Fearne option certainly more attractive in a lot of ways IMO.

Fearne has proven he can coach.
Demonstrating swagger on the sidelineā¦in a positive way.
Crowd has an obvious connection with him.
Shows confidence. Obvious he has been here before.
He can get the best results from his players due to his knowledge and experience.
The players love him. They rallied for him to become interim coach.
Perhaps a few more games to get a bigger sample size.
Unless we have a high degree of confidence we can sign someone closer to a guarantee this may be our guy.

If he gets the job, he needs to bringnin a big time recruiting assistant and we need nil in order to keep guys like igor and jackson so hes not starting over next season

I hate to be the person they keeps talking about money but we do not have the financial resources to build basketball NIL football NIL increase operating budget and build facilities. We just donāt. We could do 1 or maybe 2, but any G5 program is going to be challenged to do too much.
I hope we have enough to retain them, but the reality is is if another program wants them I doubt we can compete.
The most Mike Hill thing ever would be for Fearne to finish Top 3, win two games in AAC tourney, then let him go and hire an unproven beta assistant.

Yes but it takes less nil to compete in hoops than it does in football. We raise 50000 for igor and 25000 for jackson and there is a good vhance we can keep them. That should be doable
I want to say yes, but thatās 75k then that doesnāt go stadium expansion.
Man you have really fallen into the defeatist camp. We live in a vibrant, growing city with tons and tons of money. We just need to make people care about the program. Committing to winning and stopping with the Mayberry hires would go a long way.
