Hillās statement that āwe want to contend for conference championshipsā in the official statement makes me think it was negotiated and gave each side an out. Sanchez is not damaged property now but may have been after a bad AAC season next year. A couple of years as UVA associate HC and he can make himself a HC candidate again. The timing of it all is confusing though.

The only thing this move guarantees is that we get started on fixing MBB one year earlier.
Next year was gonna suck hard with Sanchez hereā¦he would have been fired after next season.
Now at least we can get a new coach/system in place 300 days earlier.
Iāll take that as a win.

I agree that his reputation and career would have taken a HUGE hit if next year ended up being as bad as it was looking.
Howeverā¦it also doesnāt look good that you fail so badly that you bail on your contract ā¦and voluntarily go from a HC to an Assoc HCā¦just so that you donāt go down with the ship you drove into the iceberg.
Especially from a guy that preaches āpillarsā

From what I understand, Briceās family wanted him to stay. Iām not sure Brice leaves if we had a coach that didnāt play such a shit offense. He came here for the school and we failed him.
Why would Brice leave for the money and end up at bfe Nebraska? He/His family has money. Wouldnāt be surprised he came back now.
Some of this might be true, except for one thing, we were already a bad team. We had a losing record in CUSA. Iām not sure how many times you have to be told this before it sinks in.
