When to extend Lutz?

Also, loses to HPU or APP will NOT ruin our season...with all the new pieces it will take time.
I don't think anything could possibly be more embarrassing than going 0-2 versus HPU and ASU.

I think I’ll be sulking for the rest of the year if we lose to them. What a horrible year this would be. :unhappy:

eason, do we need to put you on suicide watch? There is a good likelihood of going 1-1 or 0-2. That’s not being negative on anyone, just basing it on returning players, etc. That doesn’t mean they couldn’t win 20 games later on either.

I’ve been around here long enough never to be surprised.

Do you think there is also a good likelihood we go 2-0 our first two games? This team could come out of the gate hitting everything… who knows.

When is the ā€œlineā€ published for the H. P. game? Hope we are favored.

That’s possible too. This bunch needs a couple of early wins just to gain some confidence. I just don’t want to hear the boobirds singing that the 49ers lost to High Point. AZ Reid may be the best player to play in Halton this season.

If favored, it will only be due to being the home team.

if we go 0-2, Lutz is most surely gone, and we probably have bigger problems. Halton will be a ghost town unless some faith is restored in the season somewhere, for the remainder of the season. Donations will likely slack from some donors. Also, pretty hard to pep up for football when your ā€œmain sportā€ can’t compete with the likes of High Point and App State on the basketball court.

you know that, I know that, a lot of this board knows that, but the other 22K students and 74k alumni don’t.

The boos will come, and I’m not going to fault them.

step away from the ledge

H. P., wait, too much H. P., what’s up with this A. Z. Reid? I’ll be glad when
this H. P. game is over! Who scheduled this game anyhow?

I’d like to think it will not come to this, but if we must go for our next coach I just ask that we do NOT drop the ball like some schools do. Three people should already be in line to be interviewed when the axe is dropped. Whoever is going to make the decision (Judy, Dubois?) can’t possibly be looking for a W-L record to tell them their answer. I really worry about what decision will come down if it is Dubois say. Who’s in his ear? How much does he possibly understand? He just doesn’t come off as a basketball guru in my mind. Bobby has done well here and I think he could very easily continue to do well here, but if they do opt for someone else I better not see the former Wyoming coach get hired b/c Phil’s that far out of touch.

I’m still stuck back on the post about how loyal Bobby is/has been…Who was that that desperately pushed for the Tennessee job?..How about South Alabama?..Hey,i’m not saying I even fault him…the program was going to **** and he saw some oppurtunities to jump ship…more power to him. But,please, saying he deserves our loyalty because he’s been so loyal…I really never thought we’d be here discussing, seriously, the possibility of losing to High Point and App…and wishing we were as good as Davidson.Time to stop the whining about how ā€œyoungā€ we are…just put some w’s up!

AMEN Lucky 57!!!

Yeah, I’ll be a couple inches from the ledge if we’re 0-2 next Tuesday. My panthers blow, I can’t have my niners sucking too.

I would give almost anything for the Niners to have a NCAA year before I graduate. So they have 2 years. :expressionless:
You play the season and then decide…
Agree.
You would think people that make these decisions would have an alternate plan, but they don’t necessarily in most circumstances.
This is what really worries me if they do let him go. Maybe this is the plan.

Phil: "Roy, this is Phil from UNCC."
Roy W: "Who?"
Phil: "You know. Phil DuBois. The chancellor."
Roy: "Oh yea."
Phil: "I need your help. Who do you recommend we hire as a new basketball coach? By the way, can you put in a good word for me in chapel hill?"
Roy (smiling to himself): "You had that really talented coach back in the 80s. Hal someone. I would get in touch with him. He was always a fan favorite."
Phil: ā€œGreat idea Roy. I’ll get right on it. Thanks, and don’t forget to put a good word in for me in chapel hill.ā€

Over40, scary telephone converation, but it sounds like Dubois’ style.
Geez…

I'm still stuck back on the post about how loyal Bobby is/has been...Who was that that desperately pushed for the Tennessee job?..How about South Alabama?..Hey,i'm not saying I even fault him...the program was going to **** and he saw some oppurtunities to jump ship...more power to him. But,please, saying he deserves our loyalty because he's been so loyal...I really never thought we'd be here discussing, seriously, the possibility of losing to High Point and App...and wishing we were as good as Davidson.Time to stop the whining about how "young" we are..just put some w's up!

I said more loyal…for the money. And I am not talking about just coaching, Lutz is a good ā€œfaceā€ for our team in the area, and he does it out of the goodness of his heart rather than money

If you got offered twice what you do now to play in a bigger league, i hope you would interview. They pretty much told him to go look, and South Alabama he thought would provide some leverage. I am not saying that we have to be loyal, just that unless we are planning on putting up BIG dollars, and we don’t want the guy to leave in 4 years (Lutz has been here 10) Lutz is one of your top options.

Trust me I would love to see a change, but our recruiting/future is getting destroyed right now.

I truly believe we will beat High Point, but if we don’t, it does not mean we can’t have a good season.

Take 1991-92 for example. That year we lost to College of Charleston in the opener even though it

was C of C’s 1st game in Division I. Everbody cried gloom and doom but that 49ers team, led by Henry
Williams, won their next 11 straight.

The O will have an article on Bobby tomorrow with the theme: a new beginning, or the beginning of the end? Hmmmmm…

Agree with that, but not the rest.

Scoreboard-watching won’t tell you if a team is well-coached. If everyone functions as a unit on both ends - and if fans feel confident about the future of the program - then the coaching situation is sound.

I agree. I would hope that Judy would have enough sense to know not to make a judgement call off some silly logic likeā€¦ā€œif we lose to team A, B, or C…then Lutz should be fired.ā€ The situation is much more gray than that.

This team is young, and there isnt a talking head in the world who knows what this team can do this year. Firing a coach cause he gets beat by a team a couple of people ā€œthinkā€ we should beat is silly.

Its more about wins or losses this year. Remember 2 years ago. The team won around 20 games and went to the NIT. But anyone who watched the team long enough knew something was really wrong with that group of guys. The decision has to be made off of team progression, cohesion, and if we are competitive or not. Our OOC schedule will give us plenty of chances to see if progress is made.

, just that unless we are planning on putting up BIG dollars, .
I think that's the real reason Bobby hasn't been extended. I don't think Dubois is willing to give Lutz or anyone else the amount Bobby makes. We are what we are.
