Who is it really?
With that said, I would rather have Lutz back than McKillop. Like Bob a lot and think heā€™s a class act but heā€™s not big enough for our program as arrogant as that sounds.
The way I see it, heā€™s never had a coaching job where he didnā€™t go after a very particular type of kid: Smart and usually white. Could you imagine McKillop trying to connect with the Demon Brownā€™s of the world?

ā€¦and I think youā€™re crazy for thinking otherwise. Look at their overall records. To me its not even close. Lutz is WAY better.
We donā€™t agree often and I was one of Bobbyā€™s biggest critics but I agree with you on this one. McKillop coaches more fundamentally sound, smart basketball. Hard to argue that. But I donā€™t think heā€™s on the same level as Bobby.

If not for Curry putting McKillop on his back, Iā€™m not sure Bob would even be part of these coaching carousel discussions.

McKillop is probably a better game coach, but Bobby is better everywhere else. Cal isnā€™t a great game coach either but Iā€™d take him in a heartbeat.

lutz had a better record because he had better talent.
and he also played in a MUCH tougher leagueā€¦

I agree. McKillop is a better teacher of basketball fundamentals, and in-game tactician. Bobby would be the better recruiter, and overall personality.

no need to make a thread about but Andy Katz thinks Al Skinner would be a good fit here.

"While itā€™s merely speculation, if Charlotte athletic director Judy Rose doesnā€™t find a coach in a few days, former Boston College coach Al Skinnerā€™s name could pop up in the search. As Mark Blaudschun of The Boston Globe writes, Skinnerā€™s summer home is nearby in South Carolina, and an Atlantic 10 school with new facilities would be an ideal place for Skinner to start anew.
As we wrote Friday, the trail had briefly gone cold on the open job at Charlotte, but now it would appear two names have emerged above other candidates: Mike Hopkins (Syracuse) and Pat Kelsey (Xavier).

McKillop vs Lutz is kind of apples oragnges IMO

Davidsonā€™s academic standards are much higher than ours for recruiting athletes. McKillop is somewhat limited who he can chase. Lutz is allowed to go get a Coley and McK canā€™t. Therefore Davidson ends up with ivy league type athletes who canā€™t jump or run, but know how to play. If McK were here, he would never be as sound fundamentally as the Davidson teams.

We need a coach in place by Monday! We gotta get this thing done and get some recruiting taken care of.

. . . . . and now itā€™s Sunday April 4th. This was the day where I thought we would have a clear picture by so I am starting to get very anxious. It is one of the following:

A) We consulted with the CIA on how to make this as secretive as possible.
B) Our AD and Chancellor have no idea what they are doing.
C) It is Mark Montgomery, Wojo or Collins.

I really thought that if it were Kelsey this would be done by now and that if it were Hopkins he would have tried to leverage this first.

Iā€™m still Wednesday away from freak-out mode.

Iā€™m not quite sure I follow your thinking or what you mean. The Final 4 was last night. Just over 12 hours ago. Did you expect something more than what weā€™ve gotten by now? From all the talk of F4, I didnā€™t expect anything until Monday at the earliest. I know Menā€™s Bball HC is a huge priority for us, but I think our people are still gonna at least hold off on an announcement until after Easter Sunday.

But Iā€™m with you, Iā€™m pretty anxious myself. I was just eating some lunch and thinking about the fact I hadnā€™t checked NNN in like >2 hours lol. I donā€™t want to miss the news when it hits! God I hope we do this right and get the right guy. :anxious:

The interviews should have been completed by now. The meetings and interviews should have taken place on Thurs/Fri, so I would expect some news by late today or Monday. If not, then we have been rejected by probably our top-two picks. I know this is a big hire, but we need to go ahead and get it done so we can try to get a couple of recruits in her for next year. If not, we will be thin next year, and very young the following year.

We are the Stealthist Athletics Department in the world. So stealthy that the CIA would consult US, if they even had a clue we existed. Now thatā€™s stealthy.

Posting from Vegas, and I saw Dubois in the CLT airport yesterday at lunch. I guess he was on his way to Indy. If he was in on all the interviews they probably have just happened. My guess is Judy will interview and make her pick, then Dubois will interview with veto power. All of this is just a guess. I am still feeling good about our prospects.

I have no inside information whatsoever but my guess would be we would announce our new coach after the final four. Waiting until the tourney is over will keep (or at least help) the story from getting buried on the sports page. Of course the O will probably not help us either way.
