Just as long as we donât do what State did and run Sendek out of town.
That pretty much is what is occurring, at least by some.
If he has a contract he should be doing his job, whether he has one year left or one more.
yeah he hit a snag. with recruiting and had bad luck not landing commitments that were sold on our program until a certain coach jumped ship. Some of the expectations you all have for a basketball program is unrealistic. Lutz has been the one factor that has been able to get us to that level of competition. Basically you guys and few gals are expecting amazing performance year in and year out. It doesnât happen, sometimes things donât fall a teams way. Yeah we ran into bad luck with the conference reallignment and then all of a sudden everyone started becoming pessimistic. It might not have been the move everyone wanted to make, but iâm sure it was probably the only one we could make to keep a majority of our athletic programs at a competitive level. Everyone needs to take a few steps back breathe in deep and relax. Believe it or not lutz and the rest of the coaching staff and players do read the board from time to time. So why not change the attitude of the board and just actually support whomever is wearing a uniform or coaching a team and drop the negative attitudes.

Thanks, John Winger

Since when in sports are contracts worth the paper they are printed on?

Dax, you would feel different if you were donating a lot of money to the program only to see it lose.
Would you continue to pay an employee for subpar performance? Or would you just cheer him on as he comes dead weight to your company?
âHey Jimmy, I know I told you to have that report in by Monday, but its okay that you didnât! You just hit a snag! GOOOOOOO JIMMY!!!â
how is what lutz did at the university sub par? He had two losing seasons out of 9? 2 NIT appearances and 5 NCAA appearances. Name some other mid major programs who have had that much success? Pretty sure lutz won two conference championships too.

Good question. Reminds me of what Yogi said about verbal agreements not being worth the paper they were printed on.

I uderstand what you are saying Felt, but neither are you a paying supporter. AsI am one, I fear what the program is going to be like next year without Lutz. I am afraid we are a little late to get into this mess.

actually students are paying supporters as well. Seeing how they have tuition fees that go to supporting the athletic department. aka paying coaches yadda yadda. yes alumni give extra to the university than they already have. which takes some pressure for the parents of the students and the students who are paying for themselves.
Iâd like to see how the break up of money students donate to the school actually goes to the coaches sallaries.

I might add that if Jimmy were out looking for another job on the Monday reports were due, he would be well advised to find one.

If youâre happy with the ending of the 04-05 seasonâŚ
If youâre happy with an NIT appearance with 2 First-Team All A-10 players
If youâre happy with ANY aspect of this most recent seasonâŚ
Then I guess you could be happy with Bobbyâs performance. Some of us donât want to be labeled as a Mid-Major program that celebrates just making the tourney. Personally, I want to see real results. Weâve proven to the world that we can get to the tourney, but never actually make some real noise despite tons of talent. Bobby hasnât been the same since March 1st, 2005âŚ

Whether you agree with it or not, college coaching tends to be âwhat have you done for me lately?â Those NCAA appearances can only carry you so far before they lose value when weâre talking about contract extensions. My boss isnât going to care what I did for my company back in 2000 if I failed at my job for the last two straight years. Not to mention, my boss and fellow employees probably wouldnât enjoy knowing I sent resumes to other companies.

yeah but he still had a winning season 2 seasons ago. This seasons we kind of got the shaft with phil and then carlos never even remotely panned out to be what he was recruited as.

and who recruited carlos? Nobody forced Bobby to let Carlos on the teamâŚ
Carlos wasnât what we made him out to be and bobby isnât the type of person to give up on someone during mid season. why do you think he kept starting mitchell baldwin while he was hurt. He is a good coach and he has faith that the players will continue to play at the level they are expected to.

How good does a coach have to be to make excuses for not winning? There are a number of coaches without jobs who have plenty of excuses. Why not get the cheapest one and use the leftover money to keep Butler?

(use the quote button, btw)
And once again, are these not BAD qualities? Iâm sure Bobbyâs a nice guy, but being a nice guy doesnât always win basketball games. You put the best players on the floor to win the game. Both Mitch and Carlos consistently proved to be, well, inconsistent. So, heâs a good coach because he had faith that they might turn it around?
What you describe is a great guy, not a great coach.

and who were your altertinative for playing point guard this season. he kept the person on the floor who had the most talent. carlos was iffy but someone had back up leemire.
well for the mitch arguement he still threw up 6 assists a game. he obviously wasnât bad enough even though he was playing hurt the entire season.
and i used the quote box btw if you didnât notice.
so basically weâve not had depth at point guard in the last two years. That isnât lutzâs fault lewis has not been able to perform as expected. A coach only do so much then the rest lies on the players. If the players donât pan out you go get new ones that is part of the reason why booker and los are leaving.

Again, youâre giving Bobby excuses for problems he caused by recruiting those players. No one signed these players and expected Bobby to coach them. Bobby brought those players in. Those players underperformed. Who do you blame?

Simple enough⌠$155,000 base salary from the State of NC, 20000 students (approx) works out to $7.75 per student.
Deal or steal?
