Wilderness to prep school

Just released by the university.

Charlotte, N.C. — Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball coach Bobby Lutz has announced that 2006-07 signee An’Juan Wilderness (Dunwoody, Ga.), a 6-6 wing player, will attend prep school for the coming season and will not be on the 49ers roster.

well shit!!!

I really wish the next line had been, “Lutz however did announce that Wilderness’ scholarship will go to Phil Jones.”

Best of luck to Juan, hope he makes it here next year. Edited to say thanks for the news Persinger.

!!!

The plot thickens. I really hope he gives a solid verbal for '07 and we get Jones. That would be the best case scenario.

What does this mean in terms of status for next year? Did he sign a letter of intent or just a verbal? Is his recruitment now back open? How does this crap work?

How it works when they go to prep school is that everything is open again. He can be recruited by other teams and we’ll have to retain another LOI from him. However there might be some rules regulating him from going to another school in our own conference.

My dream…and it’s just a little dream…is that one year…just ONE mf’n year…we can start a season without some sort of injury, suspension, eligibility, conspiracy issue.

I mean, damn…yes…day-um. We go thru this sort of thing every f’n year.

49er Basketball 10 Commandments

 • Thou shalt blame everyone else for our support issues except for ourselves.
 • Thou shalt lose valuable assistant coaches every year.
 • Thou shalt recruit high profile recruits that always choose another school instead of Charlotte at the 12th hour.
 • Thou shalt always need JUCO’s and transfers to fill a roster.
 • Thou shalt lose games every year we have no business losing.
 • Thou shalt have poor home attendance every year.
 • Thou students shalt support many other various teams before their own.
 • Thou shalt be “on the bubble” for the NCAA Tourney every year.
 • Thou shalt win “at most” only one postseason game (NCAA/NIT) per year.
 • Thou shalt have at least ONE exciting incoming player every year invloved with one of the following:injury, suspension, eligibility issues, malcontent issues, performance underachiever.

We are Charlotte!

Double or nothin’, boys. Double or nothin’.

We either get both a highly regarded center to understudy Courtney and Antwon and a top-notch player for ‘07 or we get nothin’.

I say take the gamble and let the dice fly. It’s a good risk.

Thanx to Mike P.

This was a suprise to no one. I don’t see what the upheaval is about. Shame, but expected. This is what happens when ETS cops an attitude.

As for Phil Jones, we’re lucky he’s still available. He could have been anywhere from Indiana to Kentucky to MSU. I don’t care if he qualifies by the hair on his chin, quality big men are very hard to find.

Mike P, has Utter gotten any info on Jones yet? He told me he’d look into it.

Jones would be the best low post player on our team from the time he steps onto the court this year. Would be a HUGE get.

The odd’s of us getting Phil at this point 20% tops

The odd's of us getting Phil at this point 20% tops

What do you base this on?

The odds for Beasley coming here was 80% and him not coming was 20%.

The odds for Wilderness coming this year was 85% and him not coming was 15%.

Now the odds for Phil Jones not coming is 80% and him coming is 20%.

Woohoo!

Those ten commandments are entirely appropriate. Sad, but true.

Someone with a little time, can quickly turn most of those 10 commandments around:

Thou shalt lose valuable assistant coaches every year…because we win every year, 7 out of 10 NCAA tourneys, 19 wins average, etc.

I’d rather be involved with high profile recruits than not.

I still don’t see why our own fans go out of their way to put the program down. Our coaches bust their ass to overcome all the disadvantages, win consistenty and still get their balls busted on a regular basis.

Exactly what I was thinking.
well shit!!!
That 'bout sums it up…

I’m with you Lefty… Lutz has a good program, we just need consistency game-to-game. I hope 'juan sticks close by.

Very well said.

I agree.

At this point, I somehow expected this annual bump in the road. Let’s how that everyone now remains healthy and performs up to expectations.
