Wilderness to prep school
When is the last time we beat an ACC school for a player, yet arguably finish better (NCAA or NIT) than half the schools in the ACC most every year? The point is, we do not beat the ACC for players. Wish we could, but most everyone in the state/region grow up with ACC dreams – and that’s a positive for the ACC, not a slap at us. Somehow, we consistently cobble together very good seasons, without “ACC”-caliber players. Doesn’t that say something about the coach? We all want to play and advance in the NCAA’s every year, but what program like us doesn’t have to wait out the last minute defections to the BCS leagues? Or the occasional issue with a player’s eligibility? We get and take the best players available, sometimes flirting with the high profile guy that is getting tremendous pressure from friends/family/coaches/posse to sign with a “big time” school. I love Charlotte, but are we crazy enough to think that there are kids out there that are so self determined at 17-18 years old that they can turn their back on that pressure and sign the papers with the Niners. What HS or AAU coach doesn’t want his guys at high-major programs? We are a major program, but there is a big difference in us and the ACC/BCS – not in terms of play – but rather in terms of ego. Von Wafer was basically told signing with Charlotte would be a “death sentence” if he wanted a big shoe deal as a pro. Ish Smith was told he would be the “next Chris Paul” if he came to Wake. If you are 17-18, those kind of comments carry some weight. Out coaches battle that, but quite honestly none of us know their real targets. They have, and will continue, to get good solid players that will win a lot more games than they lose, and maybe grab a superstar every now and then, but the idea that they can’t recruit/coach, etc has no merit at all when you look up and see nine postseason banners hanging in Halton since 1997.
Well said!!!

good points.

and it will never get any better until basketball fans are informed about our program. say we make it to the ncaa 10 years in a row and win the 1st round all 10 years. say clemson makes it to the ncaa 2 of those years and only advances to round 2 one of those years. every f****** newspaper and tv station in the state will brag about clemson because they are in the acc. really sad fact is that even some niner students won’t even know any better because they have NO ONE to tell them the facts.

i’m not talking about our local media. it’s terrible with the tilted coverage but it’s even worse in other parts of the state.

our administration needs to grow a pair and quit being afraid to step up to the powers that be. i’m tired of f****** excuses.

our administration needs to step up and say “damn straight we’re going to have football whether the rest of the state likes it or not”.

our administration needs to make students proud to be attending school at uncc. every thing i have read on this board states otherwise.

i thought dubois may be an improvement but now i think he has been reading a script written by someone in raliegh or chapel hill. f****** P****.
Someone with a little time, can quickly turn most of those 10 commandments around:

Thou shalt lose valuable assistant coaches every year…because we win every year, 7 out of 10 NCAA tourneys, 19 wins average, etc.

I’d rather be involved with high profile recruits than not.

I still don’t see why our own fans go out of their way to put the program down. Our coaches bust their ass to overcome all the disadvantages, win consistenty and still get their balls busted on a regular basis.
I think it is just frustration. I love Bobby and the school, but it feels like we have been treading water for the last 5 or so years. Everyone is waiting on the next step up and it just hasn’t happened.
Other teams do as well as us without losing valuble assistants every year. We have a problem that needs to be addressed.

As for being involved with high profile recruits, if you sit in the boat watching other people catch the big fish all day and go home happy you had your hook in the same ocean, fine. But most folks aren’t natured that way.

If disapoinment over recent developments makes the fans bad, you should find some consolation in the fact that our fan base is small and barely growing.
I would say this is a step up from the Mullins years. I don’t count Melvin since he was not really around long enough to establish any type of program. Mullins did not go after the big guys. You will never land one of them until you atleast try. We are trying now, just can’t seem to close the deal.

^^^^^ see gamer? At least JimmyHat made some sort of a suggestion. It’s not that hard. You identify a problem and you recommend a solution! Really, it’s that easy!

Unless your role here is to provide snark when something goes wrong. Hmmmmm.

f****** P****.

well said!

From the Observer:

Now that he has not enrolled at Charlotte, his recruitment has re-opened. Despite the change to prep school, Wilderness plans to keep his commitment to Charlotte, the Observer has learned.

Now THAT is DOBA…to steal the phrase. This guy is always on top of his posting game. He gets my vote for POY.

I agree.

Phil Dubois has only been here one year… granted.
However, what exactly has been accomplished in that one year that wasn’t set into motion by Woodward?

I can’t think of one new thing except for some administration reorganization.

Dubois spent a ridiculous amount of time (too much he readily admits) on and off campus meeting people and networking the past year. The PR will pay off down the road I think and this year you will begin to see him being more active in campus business.

Charlotte is NOT a program that wins “consistenty.” The forty niners are a team that wins five games in a row and then drops their last four. They battle it out with the top team in the conference then lose a bottom feeder the next week. Get ranked near the top 25 then turn into a bubble team. Or average eighty points a game then put up nine points in a half. The only thing they do consistently is lose to ACC teams and disappoint in March. Its an inconsistent program thats the result of Lutz’s ‘Die by the three’ system.

Sounds like you need to root for a new team then Hooligan. I heard that the Tarheels will be doing well again this year…

That is true, and saying so does not make anyone wrong. We should be trying to upgrade our program and add fans, not stagnate and tell our few fans to go somewhere else.

Is Hooligan a fan?
My bad

I think he is. Of course, if he finds someone else to root for, as you suggested, he won’t be.

Or if he walks into Halton wearing a Tar Heels hat, isnt that right gamer…

Gamer, I was being sarcastic. I know he is a so-called “fan”, but he’s always putting down the program, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was a Tarheel fan.

If he walks into Halton wearing anything he wants and cheers for the team, I would say he is a fan.
