Will Healy New Coach

Just to be clear, I am not rooting for Healy to leave or for another school to get him. My point is Healy is already getting this kind of interest after one year. I donā€™t see that interest subsiding if he continues to win. NWA is right, he is getting a lot of interest based on the fact that he is not the typical coach (one of the reasons we love him).

Iā€™d up him to Houston level With a much better buyout and see where it goes.

Bingo. The reports of what we were prepared to pay Houston shows what weā€™re capable of.

When Houston shopped those numbers and burned us, we took a big risk on a coach who had not yet proven himself, and we paid accordingly.

After year one, heā€™s proven that he was at least worth that risk. We might not need to up him to 1.2, but Iā€™d say heā€™s earned a bump to something in between that and his current salary.

If it were my show, Iā€™d offer 750k plus a hefty addition to his assistant coaching budget, up that buyout substantially, and go from there.

One thing Iā€™d be firm on is a clause in the buyout that requires the program that hires him away play us home-and-home with NO option to buy out of the game in Charlotte. If an SEC school takes him, I want him to bring that team to The Rich. I donā€™t think that would scare bigger fish away enough to make him not want to sign, but we all know a Tennessee or Ole Miss would try to weasel their way out of that game here if it werenā€™t ironclad.

Whatā€™s wrong with waiting a month or or even 6, he already said heā€™s not leaving.

No he didnā€™t. He said thereā€™s nothing to report.

Nothing to report means thereā€™s no offer. He did not say heā€™s not interested or not interviewing or definitely staying.

Just that thereā€™s nothing to report.

He didnā€™t say either of those things. Hereā€™s the direct quote:

ā€œIā€™m all Niner.ā€

That neither means he isnā€™t looking or that he has been spoken to. At this momentā€¦THIS MOMENTā€¦he is ā€œAll Ninerā€.

Tomorrowā€¦

After the bowl gameā€¦

We just donā€™t know.

Unfortunately he didnā€™t say ā€œfor the 2020 seasonā€ at the end of that statement.

If a P5 backs a Brinks Truck up to his house I fully expect him to leave and wouldnā€™t blame him. He has a wife and two sons to think about before us.

Hill is smart enough to increase the buyout dramatically.

Also, if Healy doesnā€™t win the Bowl game the new shiny object loses a lot of luster.

I would think him saying he was staying either means he wants to up the pressure on any other schools looking at him, or his agent and Hill are near a new contract.

I would be shocked if Healy screws us like Houston does. Everything heā€™s shown us so far says heā€™s a man of his word, if he was thinking about leaving i donā€™t think he would be creating the narrative heā€™s staying (telling the team heā€™s staying, the reporter heā€™s all Niner, etc)

My thought is heā€™s working on a new contract with Hill and that heā€™s optimistic heā€™s not going anywhere.

Or he is just staying lol. Think we are looking too much into this. He will be our coach next year. Period.

Charlotte is a great place to be , everybody is acting like coach is looking for a reason to leave. Heā€™s not working for minimum wage here either & im sure heā€™s going to get a raise. Him & mike hill seem to have a great relationship also. I think itā€™s good for a couple more years.

Letā€™s let Mike Hill handle this! He knows what heā€™s doing.

I assume heā€™s talking about upping his salary, since the other way that could be taken is the way a mob boss would say it.

Let that be a warning to future coaches :skull:
