Will Healy New Coach

Several things.

I can’t see a coach saying “you don’t want to go to Charlotte. Heals is such a good coach that he’ll go to a better job. You want to come here, where the coaching is mediocre and no one is going anywhere.” (Read that in Doc Holidays voice).

Saying that Healy can’t put together a SEC level staff is strange the week that we saw one team lose a game on a crazy personal foul and another lose a game for having too many men on the field.

My father is an Ole Miss alum. My uncle is a retired rich guy who sold his business to move to Oxford to be a real estate agent that specializes in Ole Miss fans retiring to Oxford. There are tons of entitled rich fans who do nothing but follow Ole Miss sports. It would be very interesting to see if the Healy’s enthusiasm and fun goes over in a stodgy old SEC fanbase who will question everything he does.

Every legitimate article or tweet I’ve seen suggest it’s too early for Healy. If you want to believe a tweet by a lower level Barstool Sports employee go ahead but it’s not a good look.

I fully expect Healy to be here for the next 3 years at least. As far as the rumors go It’s not just a low level barstool employee getting behind the Healy train anymore. Either that barstool employee just masterfully trolled everyone or there is some legitimacy behind these rumors. Either way, it’s good exposure for our team and coach.

Dude needs to build the new LIT Decks at the Rich-fill it with asses of the masses. I think all this talk unfortunately takes rightful attention away from the players. Without Chris Reynolds, we would be talking about giving Healey more time to build a bowl team. No disrespect toward our great coaches, but our great players won the games.

In fairness to all, what’s going on with Healy is a sign of success - just need to be aware and stay ahead of the curve as best as possible. Healy will leave some day for a P5 - that’s a good thing and Charlotte will need to have a great succession plan in place. That’s success.

I don’t know that I share your optimism that he will be here for the next 3 years, particularly if he continues to win. I think we have him one more year (unless next season is a disaster) and he will be gone.

I just don’t know what makes people think that. There are tons of other G5 coaches who’ve had success who don’t get snapped up after two years. It’s just not the typical model.

This just shows how crazy pay is for head coaches. Ridiculous really.

Thats true and I do think Healey is going to need to win more to get a really big offer, but his attractiveness is because he isnt the typical coach.

And I believe that’s why the turnover is increasing - when a HC is getting +$2M-$4M and OC/ DC make close to a $1M there is no tolerance for mediocrity by AD’s.

There is still alot left to play out over the next several weeks but if we end up dodging the bullet I would imagine Healy & Hill to play up an extension like nobody’s business.

Imagine a press conference where Healy basically says he spurned the SEC because he wants to stay here and build something special in Charlotte. That he believes in Hill’s vision and that we are going places and we aren’t done making history. Hill then doubles down on his belief in Healy and announces a substantial extension.

They could ask us all to get behind them and get serious if we want to see it play out like they know it can. They could turn this hype machine into an insane hype machine going forward!!

Can you imagine the donations that would pour in with that type of message to the alumni/fan base??

Niner Nation would collectively wet their pants and empty their checkbooks simultaneously.

That would be another example of the new Mike Hill way of Pulling a Niner. Hopefully it works out that way as opposed to a Judy-era version of Pulling a Niner…which it sure has started to resemblel

I think it’s entirely feasible Hill ups Healy’s pay to the 1.2 mil range. That isn’t too big a leap for us, is it? That’d put him at Or near the top of CUSA.

Would be the 4th highest in CUSA.

And not saying we dont need to be aggressive with a raise/extension, but also worth noting that would be a 70% raise in 1 year. I’ve never balanced an athletic department budget, but that feels like a huge leap for us to make as a program.

What? You didn’t get a 70% raise your first year?
Yea, me neither.

Wait, when you perform as expected you don’t almost double your pay?

I think we are so used to failure around here that we lose our minds when we see some success.

So the 2 SEC schools that have him in their top 4 & top 6 respectively…apparently our success has caused 2 P5 schools to lose their minds too I guess?

It might be worth it to up his pay $500k a year if we also get to pump that buyout figure.

We were reportedly going to pay Houston $1.1M, so $1.2M seems doable.
