Iād like to see Lutz stick around at least through his contract just to see if he has plateaued or can take us to the next level. But anyone who thinks he canāt be bought is kidding themselves. He may love the Niners and want to further build this program but if number is right, I donāt think it would come as a shock if he left for an ACC school. Just not sure there are many coaches out there that would turn down more money, better recruiting pool, tons of TV exposure, playing in the most elite basketball conference and going against guys like K, Roy, Prosser, etc.
Like I said, I hope he sticks around but I wonāt be surprised if he leaves in the next few years, nor will I be resentful if Lutz opts to promote his coaching career. Iād love to see him excel wherever he ends up but hopefull it will be here.
I would hate to see Lutz leave, but I would understand if NC State came calling. That program is a gold mine. They play in a great conference, they have a brand new state of the art arena, they have a great tradition and fan base. I think with all the resources they have there, they should be in the top 10 year in and year out. They just need a good coach. Lutz wouldnāt be their first choice, but probably their 3rd.
Who are we kidding, we all know Herb is gonna go on a big winning streak and make it impossible to get rid of him after the season. Heāll be back next year. B)

I agree fotee. I think itās fairly obvious this next round of conference realignments is not going to be too successful. While Lutz could go to a greener pasture, and if he does, heās earned that opportunity, I donāt see the Charlotte job as a āgreatā job. Anyone else would consider the position as a stepping stone job.
With that being said⦠who out there as a hot mid-major coach or an assistant at the so-called āeliteā programs would you consider? Would the 49ers be better off?
All this speculation about Lutz leaving from someone who posts for the first time talking too a NC State āSupporterā??? Geez, the sky is falling, the sky is falling!!!

No, never......or at least I hope not. We've come too far, and he's brought our program to a national level, and he will bring us farther....
GO LUTZ⦠GO NINERS!!!
He has taken us as far as Watkins did. One win in a couple of NCAA tournaments and no farther. And since Watkins players left, we havenāt gone that far.
If he is thankful just to coach and lose in the Shoe, winning in an ACC arena would be heaven.

Watkins made it that far off of Mullinsā players, so that dog wonāt hunt. Melvin is a big part of this university and I like him, but how well did he do at A@M with his own players? He got rich, but not even an NIT trip!!!

I don't see him leaving. Has too many ties to this area and from what I understand he is already in his dream job!!
One of only few guys out there that really knows what āREMEMBERING YOUR ROOTSā means!
Lutz Stays!
The quote attributed to Watkins was āIts not just a job, its my lifeā when he took the job here. The money changes ones life.
I really hope he doesnāt leave⦠It does scare me the way he leaves himself an āoutā when the question is presented though. Although I didnāt hear it, someone said a Lutz Live caller told him āwe could really use you at NC State next yearā and Bobby played it off jokingly and said something like āI wonāt even respond to that.ā
If Bobby were to leave us after this year, I think it would really put us in a dangerous position. With the move to the A-10 next year, it may be tough to find a good replacement⦠especially with the A-10 being down this year. There is also the possibility that we could lose some of Lutzās recruits that have already committed to us. I think it is very important for us to be successful over the next few years. Everyone seems to be in agreement that the Big East is going to have too many teams and another realignment will likely come within the next 5 years. If we continue to prove ourselves as a consistently successful program before then, we have a good chance to be included in a better conference. If we start to slip, who knows what will happen.
Hopefully his family living locally and the fact that he is in the process of building a successful program at his alma matter will be enough to keep him here. If he did leave us for an ACC team, I donāt think that would be too well received by most 49er fans.
So if melvin made it that far off Mullins players, whose players did Lutz have the first year or two? Did Watkins never recruit anyone?
Melvin didnāt stay here long enough to coach āhisā players. Whoās to say we would have made the tourney with him at the helm had he stayed? They may have been Melvinās recruits, but he wasnāt coaching them. He didnāt have a winning season at A&M with āhisā players.
There will be two ACC vacancies -Gillen and Sendek.
Hey guys, ultimately this is a business. If Coach Lutz believes he sees greener pastures at UNC -Raleigh, UVA, etc, then thats probably what will happen. I for one have serious reservations still about the whole A-10 deal (I know all the points). I think we have an bigger issue with our AD -> not making a move to football 3 yrs ago to protect our conference affiliation was a major blunder IMHO given where we wanted to go in basketball. The fact that South Florida is moving to the BE along with MU and DePaul just galls me.
We are what we are now, and if Coach Lutz doesnāt see the A-10 as a means to accomplish his professional goals it wouldānt suprise me to see him leave-> Heād be foolish not to. Iām certain Coach Lutz would be very successful in the ACC.
Now, Iād like to know what our āPlan Bā is???

Lutz was on the staff that brought those players in so the are just as much his as Melvins and apparently Lutz was already doing a majority of the coach during Melvins tenure.
For what itās worth, Barnes is Stateās first choice and apparently there is some mutual interest there. Lutz would be on the list though. The program to worry about if Virginia, Lutz is high on their wish list, but not sure if Bobby would want to leave NC.
