For what it's worth, Barnes is State's first choice and apparently there is some mutual interest there.
Personal opinion, I'd be surprised if Barnes wasn't the 1st choice for any ACC vacancy.
Now, I'd like to know what our 'Plan B' is???
IF Lutz left, and right now thatās a big IF, I donāt think it would be about the money. It may be about resources and a different opportunity, but I understand that heās made enough coin to last him and his family for a long time. I know heās been contacted about other coaching jobs since heās been at Charlotte and you see where heās coaching now.
Lutz is a graduate of UNC Charlotte and a local guy with many ties to the area. Unless we see a steep fall in support for the program in the near future, I think heās here until he retires. Although Iāve questioned some of his calls (who on this board hasnāt?), I hope he stays until he retires.
Letās stop speculating on what MIGHT happen and enjoy what we have now.

All this speculation about Lutz leaving from someone who posts for the first time talking too a NC State "Supporter"???? Geez, the sky is falling, the sky is falling!!!

I'm pretty sure he hasn't built the North State house yet. He has a lot there, though.
Do you know whether he wears boxer or briefs, too? Geez!
I didnāt start the house discussion. Btw, he has mentioned it on the radio when talking about playing golf out there with Bilas and Gary Williams. But since weāre on the topic, heās putting the finishing touches on a very nice house (understatement) on about 10 acres in Cabarrus County.
This may sound desperate but Iād be willing to throw-in a couple hundred to a Save Lutz fundā¦if it comes to that. It makes a big difference having one of our own in the guiding the ship.

Like it or not Charlotte is a stepping stone to a bigger job in a bigger conference, especially now that we have moved to the A-10.
Are you serious?
Which of our past coaches have used the position to get a ābiggerā job? I would say the A&M job that Watkins took wasnāt a ābiggerā job - it was just more money.
Who else can you cite? <_<
Iād hate to see Lutz go. I think weāre headed in the right direction. I have no problem going to the A-10 - we donāt have football and right now itās a great fit. I donāt see Temple fans complaining that Chaney would leave to go somewhere else, I donāt see Martelli begging for a job in a ābiggerā conference - and Iād love to have either of those guys as coaches (ok, maybe not Chaney, b/c heās gotta retire soon).
Which of our past coaches have used the position to get a "bigger" job?
Lee Rose went to Purdue after the 77-78 season. Mel went to A&M for a substantially higher playing job. I donāt know what came of Foster after his tenure here. HP?

Clempsun (10 years, 156-106, 3 NITs, 1 NCAA Final 8) was Bill Foster's next stop before going to Miami (6 years, 78-71) and reviving their program and Va Tech (6 years, 101-78, 1995 NIT Champions, 1996 NCAA). Foster was 87-39 in 6 years at UNCC.
Here it is from my contact at NC State who is in with the big dogs:
-Bobby has not been discussed
-THey are trying to fill footbal positions (Def Asst should be announced today)
-Then they will turn attention to Herb
-Herb will most likely get one more year.
Ok, lets move on to beating the THUGCATS this weekend. This discussion is over. Can I get an amen?
Well, I donāt know about an amen. This is the sports world that we are talking aboutā¦things change frequently and common sense/logic is not always applied.
However, I could believe that the info you obtained from your sources is 100% complete and accurateā¦as of February 2nd, 2005.
Jeez this is a fickle board. First the Bobby must go posts, now that there is a third-rate rumour that he may leave here come the Bobby must stay posts. Personally, I hope he is our coach for a long time. He needs to improve, but the same can be said for 95% of the coachs in the NCAA. If he does decide to leave, ask yourself one question. Knowing what we can afford to pay, what coach are we going to get thats in Lutzās league?
One thing I will say on his behalf, since he has been here we have been mentioned with more top tier players recruiting lists that I have seen in my 20+ years of watching Niner ball. I know a lot of that is due to the assistants that he surrounds himself with, but the staff is a reflection of the coach.
Ultimately, coaching is a business. Any one of you who have a job, or will soon have a job, would leave your company for a competitor if they offered you better pay, benefits, etc. Those who live in glass houses shouldnāt cast stones.
