Will the UNC-CH Belichick hire be a success?

Will the Belichick hire be a success for UNC-CH?

What sayeth the board?

My vote is hell no it’s going to be a letdown for them.

I bet he does no better than Mack Brown.

  • It will be a disaster
  • It will be a mediocre letdown of little to no improvement
  • Playoff bound

Where’s the poll?

I was thinking no but then was thinking, guess it could. He got the fountain of youth. He’ll do fine, maybe.

Done!

Biff sized mistake IMO

What sunk him in New England was his talent evaluation - not sure he does any better with that in college where the talent can be very all over the place.

On top of that he’s an ass and not sure how that will work with 17/18 yr olds.

And finally 20 mil NIL? I’ll believe that when i see it. The chapel hill resources would prefer to drive that to basketball.

I’m still not convinced he will coach a single game. The 1 mil buy out in July seemed odd.

They sold their soul to get him. If it doesn’t work out, they’re gonna look like the biggest fools in sports.

clt says UNC CHeat has no soul and no classes for athletes

I’ve got my son in CLT looking for the Belichick ripped/ torn/ cutoff sweatshirt for Tarheel Football! It is beyond funny that the college that prides itself on argyle knit pullovers and kaki’s amongst other pretentiousness, hired the curmudgeon coach who started the sideline slob look!

Except for that one game, I give no shits how he does.
He might be able to pull in enough gullible young players to do well.

I had to do a lot of driving yesterday and listening to espn radio and the other network talking heads. They talked about him all day and his idea is for UNC-CH to be like the IMG Academy for Pro Sports. He’s going to set it up like a NFL Team and run it as such. GM and staff will handle NIL and player evaluations/portal. He’s got 10m for assistant pool (we have 1.8m) and he will bring in NFL position assistants. Players will be taught and treated like professional athletes. Held accountable, fined, basically everyone on a one year contract, etc… They will have beefed up finance classes to get them ready for life after football or NFL contracts. His pitch will be, I have won 8 SB’s, found the GOAT in the 6th round and Edelman in the 7th. I know how to develop players and get the absolute most out of them. A lot of other fluff

With the way college football is going, has some merit. Sooner rather than later these players will be under 1 year employment agreements.

Don’t know, don’t care. Just hope he loses to us.

I have no idea why he would want that job. I also heard he’d been such an ass to almost everybody that no one in the NFL wants anything to do with him

Yep, and the capped $20.5M revenue share is for all sports programs, not just football. Many in FBS will funnel the majority of it to the gridiron but places like Duke and Chapel Hill aren’t going to short shrift hoops. Plus the Heels are serious about soccer and other so-called Olympic sports. Going to be interesting to see what power struggles arise within athletic departments over finite funds.

The article I read said they increased football NIL from $4 million to $20 million

This is simply a publicity stunt by them to gain attention in all of the media outlets and it has worked. They hope it puts butts in seats, merchandise sold, more sponsors, and continued talk and attention. Carolina is like the Kardashians, they just can’t stand not to be the center of attention. Case in point, there is a dedicated topic on this forum dedicated to this topic.

They can’t do it by performance, so this is the next best thing

That’s very ambitious and right up there with Michigan and Ohio State. Probably tops in the ACC with Miami-FL said to be around $15M and FSU $12M.

And that $20M football NIL is on top of the guaranteed $30M to Belichick at $10M per year. And that doesn’t include total salaries for the GM and assistants.

As I mentioned before, will be interesting to see how the Heels divvy up the $20.5M revenue share between football, MBB, probably to a much lesser extent at least baseball and soccer.

Possibly positioning themselves better for the move to the SEC and breakaway “super” league down the road.

Everything about the move screams a play for private equity money (which would cement them in SEC / B1G inclusion, though they probably already were), except for their arrogance which would seem likely to preclude them from doing that.

It’s interesting. As much as I dislike them, I’ll give them that.

It could work out great for them, or it could be as gimmicky as hiring Biff was.

It will be the Big Ten due to academics.
