ESPN - 91 rating, 3 star, #98 overall

Per ESPN article:

• Willie Clayton (Thomasville, Ga./Thomasville) is a power forward to watch. Undersized? Sure but if the motor runs like it did on opening night all is well. Georgia, Mercer, Alabama, Charlotte and Florida State are in the mix.

ESPN player evaluation:

Strengths: This guy brings it. He's engaged in the lane and will work hard for his points. Catches deep and goes up strong. Isn't afraid to mix it up on the glass. He's bouncy in the lane. Weaknesses: Does he have much of a perimeter game or skill outside the lane? Sometimes gets himself too deep in the lane but that's correctable. He has nice touch from 15' and at the line, but needs to continue developing his perimeter skills and ability to step out and shoot the ball. Bottom Line: He is a beast on the glass, great frame, soft hands and is fundamentally sound in the post. He keeps the ball high in the paint on put backs and post moves. His moves are quick and precise, using pivots and quick rips to get to the basket. He goes after every ball at both ends of the floor. The 2010 Georgia High School Association Player of the Year is a double-double guy each time out.

Played on the 17u USA team earlier this year, and he was also listed at the GHSA Player of the Year, as a Soph.

Willie Clayton, Thomasville: The 6-foot-8 junior averaged 17 points and 9 rebounds, and he is being recruited by UGA, Florida State, Auburn, Memphis and Stanford. Clayton has a 3.8 GPA. “He really caught everyone’s attention with a strong performance against a 7-footer from Brazil who I think could one day be an NBA lottery pick if he comes to the U.S.,” Elite coach Linzy Davis said. Clayton squared off against Greater Atlanta Christian’s Malcolm Brogdon — arguably Georgia’s No. 1 rising senior basketball prospect, ahead of the Milton trio — in this past season’s Class AA state championship. Clayton finished with 12 points, while Brogdon scored both a game-high 25 points and the championship trophy.

Maybe Clayton slides under the radar and we can land him. Looks to be pretty close friends with EVN as well.

Dropped 35 last night in a victory: http://www.albanyherald.com/sports/headlines/Free_Willie_112415054.html?ref=054

#98 overall in class with ESPN’s newest rankings.

so is clayton the top rated ‘big’ for us for 2012?

Not sure, Early. I hope he is from what I’ve read on him. I think he’s good friends with EVN.

Need a player like this! Not sure if we were listed before.

Lefty, ESPN has had us listed. Would love to have Clayton onboard.

I would be ecstatic if we got this guy. Unlike a 6’11 project, I think he’d help immediately.

Willie Clayton scores a game high 25 points in a victory over Canada in the 22u World Championship, Tourcoing, France.

Adding Clayton to our currently inked class would give us the most athleticism we’ve had in a signing class since??

NA, remember that Clayton is a 2012 guy, 2 years out.

Dropped 33 in the GACA Junior All-Star game.

Willie Clayton, a 6-foot-8 star from Thomasville, was a force down low for the South, getting easy baskets on put backs and low post moves. He had 15 field goals, including a spectacular alley-oop dunk off a pass from Campbell's Matthew Cotton, and scored a game-high 33 points with 22 rebounds to earn MVP honors for his team. Campbell's Justin Seymour added 19 for the South.

I could be wrong, but I think he is good friends with E-Vic Nick. Maybe that could help us out…
