I think Winthrop (or their proponents) can say they’ve exceeded us only when they don’t require a conference tournament win to make the tournament. That’s pretty cut-and-run, I mean cut-and-dry to me.
I would rather be giving away two for ones all over the acc and sec and not be embarrassed about our schedule.
Boy am I glad your not running the program!
If Lutz would play him one for one we would find out.We can also check common opponents. We go to Miss St next week where Winthrop just handed them a double digit loss.
It’s my understanding the offer for a game was made but that Winthrop wanted a lot more money than we pay out for a game like that. I don’t think we should give Winthrop a 1 for 1 to be honest. A win does nothing for us and a loss hurts us a good deal.
If we go down to Miss St. and lay and egg then your argument will have much more validity IMO. But let’s say we beat Cuse, then lose to Miss. St, what then?
Which brings up another related point. We should be giving two for ones like Winthrop. Take a look at their OOC schedule...it's awesome. We complain about ours but it is because we won't give 2 for ones to anyone. Who are we to demand home and homes?
Indiana has been a 2-1 every since we started with them I believe. And I know Lutz has offered 2-1 all over the acc and sec, the only catch is we want them to play at Halton and they want to play in Bobcats arena.
We have no business making some of the demands we make and it hurts fan interest.
What demands do we make? You seem to have some inside knowledge on how things work. Are you a former employee at the school or something?

I have no problem playing a game or two a year in bobcats, one of which being Charlotte vs. Davidson. Halton hasn’t treated us well recently, and I think playing big games in Bobcats would help our image with the city.

Against a Duke, UNC or Wake yes, and we made those offers and all were turned down save Wake. (we actually play Wake next year in Bobheels arena). But we shouldn’t make that offer to NC State, ClemPson, GA Tech or other lower level ACC teams. They’re not at the level of a team that you make that offer to. We can’t sell our souls just to get a game.
I still think its garbage our “home” game is downtown, and not on campus. Those teams are ******* for even asking for it.
i would like to see Davidson vs Charlotte in the uptown arena, I’m just afraid it wouldn’t draw well.
but even still, I think it would add something to the game.

I think it would be okay every once in a while but IMO, the reason our rivalry with Davidson is so much fun is because of the true home court atmosphere. If you take that away, I’m not sure you’d be left with a very appealing game. And especially not to the general public who would certainly not come to the uptown arena to see it. I think we’d be very lucky to get 7K there for that game. With neither team being a national powerhouse, the excitement level of that game relies on the opposing fans traveling in masses to the hosting arena.
Personally, I wouldn’t shed a tear if we just gave up that series all-together. I know it won’t happen but I’d like to see us rotate with a handful of local schools like Davidson, Winthrop, UNC-Greensboro, App. State and UNC Asheville. Scheduling 1-2 of those each year would be a nice variation and it would make for some very fun, yet practical road trips.

I don’t know jcl, I’d personally miss the “You will work for us” chant they let out when we’ve beaten them at their place.

Why would I work for someone who has a liberal arts degree in South Asian Studies?

I’d actually like to keep the Davidson game. Right now they’re the closest thing we have to a rivalry and are always good for our RPI as opposed to some other in-state teams. Plus I think I’d like to see us keep Davidson and then have another in-state team that we rotate with. ECU isn’t a powerhouse but they bring a strong fan base with them. Winthrop is good, UNCW should be good again. And we always have UNCA, UNCG, ect to fall back on.
I wish we could play South Carolina and Winthrop every year. UNCW would be nice as well. I’m sick of playing UNCA all the time. That series is over after this year, right? Anyone know why we scrimmage against USC every year, but never get a real game with them?

It’s (Davidson) a fun game for the fans and I don’t mind keeping that matchup but I’d at least like to see us always have another local road game when we host Davidson. Similar to this year where we play at Davidson but host UNC Asheville. Next year, it would be nice to host Davidson but then have an away game at one of the other schools I mentioned (UNC-W as well…I forgot to add them earlier). It’s just a lot of fun when we have at least one road game each year that the fans can drive to in 2 hours or less. It would be nice to get a consistent rotation like that with Davidson and other local schools.

The money issue is inaccurate and is standard issue athletic department spin.
I think we certainly should give Winthrop a 1 for 1. Who are we to demand anything else from them? I also think you are way off on your evaluation of what a win/loss does for us against them. It may actually be the other way around.
We have given 1 for 1’s to a lot worse programs, that’s for sure.

I think the Davidson game is ok. At least we don’t play them 2X/year any more. That was brutal.
I would easily trade it for a yearly game with Winthrop, though. I think it would do a lot more for us than some of these other lame regional matchups we come up with.
How about if we could get together an annual 4 team tournament with Winthop, South Carolina and Clemson alternating back and forth between say, Greenville and Charlotte. How good would that be?

Other than the fact you wouldn’t get Clemson or South Carolina participating, not a bad idea. Why would they want that tournament when Clemson and South Carolina already play each other as in-state rivals?
And they can schedule Winthrop whenvever they want. USC won’t play us other than scrimmage because they have nothing to gain from it. I remember when they had Clemmons and they got creamed one year by us. The only press they got was how embarrasing it was to lose that game. For them to even scrimmage us shows the amount of respect they have for the team. But again, no advantage to play us in the season.
Clemson…I think we offer every year. They don’t want to play. And they would never play where they don’t have home court advantage. 2 for 1 with the 1 being on a neutral site is ridiculous in order to play Clemson. Would rather just go to Syracuse every year. Better on the RPI and a bigger game for tournament implications.

Can you fill me in on how you know that to be the case?

Your facts are not quite accurate there cake.
We did have this tournament set up a couple years ago and the ncaa killed it. It was us, Wake, USC and one other team…who escapes me right now. It can be done and USC and other teams would play us for the right reasons, which is money. The holiday tournament we had set up was to be televised by espn. Cash and exposer will get anyone out to play.
Can you fill me in on how you know that to be the case?
Yes I could and no I will not.
It doesn’t take a genious to figure out that there is no way Winthrop would turn down a 1 for 1 with us and there is now way they would argue compensation.

Well there goes whatever credibility you imagined you had. We do offer 2 for 1s, as you say, in fact its why our homeschedule is imbalanced this year. And the 2 for 1 option is emailed/called/and faxed into the ACC offices every year, and every year it is ignored.
If you’d get your lips off of Marshall’s ass and your finger off the trigger on your Lutz sniper rifle, and stop pretending to be someone other than the goon you are, you’d realize that.
