Well given your profound expertise and ability to examine every situation that doesn’t even occur I’m convinced.:tired:
The Big South? What is your point?
We play in an equally poor A10. I was reading SI’s preseason top 64 and I only saw X and SLU.

My point is that the Big South is a one bid league, every year. The only team that gets in is the one that wins their tournament. The A-10 has the ability to actually send an at large team to the NCAA, as it has done in many years past.
Wintrop loses in the Big South tourney this year they won’t be in the dance. That’s what I mean.
And in that top 64, how many Big South teams were there?
MK and Provider,
here is a dose of reality: I see UNC-hyphen-W getting more respect and also Winthrop.
5 years ago this would not of been a reality. The reality is we are slipping fast as a program. Read the links:
Winthrop makes the mid-major watch report and suddenly they’re better because they’re “on someone’s radar?” Yeah, they’re on the mid-major radar. Big f’n deal.

as usual you’re just looking for a internet argument.
I am not going to banter about this for hours.
There is an old saying, “perception is reality”…the perception is we are slipping backwards (and our play the last 3 years proves it), our momentum from a few years ago has stopped whether or not your choose to believe it.
if we go on to a Cinderalla type season (actually win an NCAA game) then I will eat crow, as I have before.
as usual you're just looking for a internet argument.
No, i’m looking for some rational justification for your belief that Winthrop is a better program and would kill us in a game. As of now you’ve offered a mid-major report from cnnsi and your personal opinion. While that may do it for you most other people look for something more substanitive.
I am not going to banter about this for hours.
You’ve been puking out the same posts over and over again since you showed back up here but now you’re not going to banter about something? That’s hilarious.

Since you no longer spend your money with the Niners or support this team then I’m sure the Eagles would welcome you down in Rock Hill.

I wish I were wrong, but in the eyes of so called “experts” we are not on anyone’s radar.
SI also picked Kansas #1 I think (ask Oral Roberts if they read the magazine). You know publications aren’t the end all…Notre Dame was picked preseason to be in the Final 4 about 2-3 years ago and didn’t even MAKE the tournament. I really wish you could find a way to bury the hatchet with the school, instead of just trying to bury it.
Or did you base you opinion on one game you watched them play?
Yes. Their PG is as good as ours. Goldwire is a pretty good player but has PG size playing the SG. Their frontline players are better athletes and are as big as our guys.
I’ve had season tickets since we moved to Halton. I miss about one game per year. I’ve been to two conference tourneys and one NCAA in that time period. Before that I did the drive to Tyvola and Independence. I hope that qualifies me as a fan.
Okay, “idiots” was a bit harsh. However, Marshall should not be recruiting from the same talent pool as us. For them to be as good or maybe better than us is a bit disturbing to me and obviously to some others.

that is all I’m saying too.
Today we would NOT sniff Sean Colson, Demarco, Kelvin Price, Diego, and Galen.
according to the “provider” it should not upset me.

Has Winthrop “surpassed” our program? no. Are they getting better players and gaining on us over the past several years? Probably. Are they better than us the past couple seasons? Yes.
The fact that Winthrop does play in a one bid league and recruits to Rock Hill makes it even more impressive that they get the players they do and have continually competed with anyone in the country.
Hey, the fact that we are arguing it means there is something to it.
My feeling is that if a guy like Marshall can out-recruit Lutz with all the advantages Lutz has here, what would Marshall be able to do at Charlotte. I don’t think there is much of an argument that Gregg is a better coach…he just is. What remains to be seen is can he get better talent than Lutz here. I don’t see why not.
A lot of you seem to think this is all based off of our one loss to NTS but the fact is that it goes back years. Marshall made it clear that if Tenn had choosen Lutz, he wanted this job and I think many wantd to see that happen. That’s all. It’s not a conspiracy, it was almost a reality.

Perfectly said? Ok you said Winthrop had surpassed our program, ninermike just said they hadn’t. So which is it?
Are they getting better players and gaining on us over the past several years? Probably. Are they better than us the past couple seasons? Yes.
Upon what is this based?
We play in a tougher league, against tougher competition. There is no way to say they’ve been better than us when 1) we’ve not even played each other and 2) their competition is so much less than what we have to face.
My feeling is that if a guy like Marshall can out-recruit Lutz with all the advantages Lutz has here, what would Marshall be able to do at Charlotte.
How has he out recruited Lutz? There’s no one on Winthrop’s roster that can sniff DA. Plavich was recruited to GA Tech and Vanderbilt, Curt is better than anyone Winthrop has had. Calvin Clemmons played for South Carolina and we had a guy by the name of Rodney White in here. We’re both forced to go juco for players but I’d really like to see you back up that claim cause I just don’t see it.
Marshall is a solid coach, and if Lutz left I’d have no problem seeing him come here. But he’s enjoyed a great deal of success at Winthrop yet he’s still there. Why have other bigger schools passed on him so much? If he’s just that good, and it’s so obvious to anyone who will see that he is, why is he still there?
This discussion is moot anyway. Lutz is not leaving unless he wants to so Marshall won’t be here. The constant complaining and wishing he were is pointless and a waste of time. We have a coach and we have a team that is a mere 2 games into the season. Granted folks like metro would rather be “right” about our program than see it succeed, but that doesn’t mean everyone else has to be pulled down with him.

Well, anyone that has met Gregg can tell you he is different. He would have had several bigger jobs, had he really wanted them. South Carolina was his but Marshall gave demands that SC wouldn’t meet. He is also very happy at Winthrop, just as Mckillop is at Davidson. Don’t tell me he can’t coach either.
Judy would probably never hire Marshall here because they would clash (just another reason to show her the door) and from what I’ve heard, she has told people that she won’t hire him.
It could be argued all day about what coach recruits better players but what can’t be argued is that it is very close and Lutz has extreme recruiting advantages.
What also can’t be argued is that Marshall gets more out of his players and if they are inferior, as you suggest, then that makes Marshall a much better coach.

Where did I say Marshall couldn’t coach? I didn’t. What I said is that he’s not a god of coaching as many on here seem to believe. And he’s floated his name for more than a few higher profile jobs, they’ve just never panned out. If he’s as good as many here claim I think it’s a legitimate question as to why he still sits in Rock Hill.
What also can't be argued is that Marshall gets more out of his players and if they are inferior, as you suggest, then that makes Marshall a much better coach.
He doesn’t play us, or the level of competition we do. It can easily be argued that he doesn’t get more out of his players when he’s not playing the same level of competition we do. It can also be argued he doesn’t get more out of his players when he’s pulling in far better talent than the rest of the Big South. Getting more out of your players, to me anyway, means you’re doing more with less, not more with more.
And I never said his players were inferior, I simply asked you to justify saying they were better than ours. And I agree with your previous point, it’s debatable, and certainly not definitive as people have claimed in this thread.
In any case this discussion is pointless. Marshall isn’t our coach and isn’t going to be in the forseeable future. We don’t play Winthrop and they don’t play in our league or against the same competition we do. That being the case everything is debatable in this discussion, not a single thing is set in stone for the simple reason is there is no common basis for comparison.
We have a team in the here and now that plays a huge game in 2 days, that ought to be our focus.

If Lutz would play him one for one we would find out.
We can also check common opponents. We go to Miss St next week where Winthrop just handed them a double digit loss.
Which brings up another related point. We should be giving two for ones like Winthrop. Take a look at their OOC schedule…it’s awesome. We complain about ours but it is because we won’t give 2 for ones to anyone. Who are we to demand home and homes?
We have no business making some of the demands we make and it hurts fan interest. I would rather be giving away two for ones all over the acc and sec and not be embarrassed about our schedule.
