With or Without

Do you guys think that we will be better next year without Curtis? I know what he brings to the table, positive and negative. Just wondering what everyone else thinks.

For me, have to wait and see the team that goes out on the floor before I can answer.

Talking about Curt, if he is going to set a pic, would he AT LEAST get in the way of the guy he is trying to pic? Pathetic.

For a glimpse of what we look like without Curtis see 1st half tonight when he had 3 fouls…we have so little off. without him its scary.Jerrells a nice kid but he sure doesn’t seem to be div.1 material. We basically only have a few guys that can score…and Mitch sure ain’t 1 of them. I still think Lutz is a lousy coach, won’t dwell upon all the reasons, but I was very pleasantly surprised that he started Bennett and Lee in the backcourt…and it was great to see Marcus hit a few 3’S.If we can establish any consistent outside game that will keep teams from just packing in on Curtis with 3 guys. God forbid Bobby should let 5 guys stay on the floor for more than 4 minutes at a time to get some rhythem.Maybe he’s trying to overcompensate for his rather “napoleanic” stature by oversubstituting.

Curt is a GREAT rebounder, but here are the things that hurts him/us. 2 to 1 turnover to assist ratio, poor free throw percentage, doesn’t assert himself in the post, sometimes poor shot selection, BAD technical he got tonight too. He is the leader of this team, I think that we are so erratic b/c he is.

If Carlos Williams is as good as he’s supposed to be we will have one of the best backcourts in the nation next year. Mitch is one of the nicest guys Charlotte has ever had but he is an offensive LIABILITY.

Ughh…no. No matter how bad he seems to some, who is his backup? Especially with Nance, ( and Bennett and Baldwin) also leaving. Unless Beasley magically found out he skipped a grade, it will be tough to develop a quality presence down low early next year. Coleman is great, but he will need help.

The team the beginning of next yr may look like the year we do not speak of…anyways, just comparing, Leemire = Demon and DA = Butter with alot of grooming young players to learn their assignments the first ten games.

Don’t want to think about it, but the beginning of next year scares me.

coleman
drayton
alexander
goldwire
williams

that looks pretty strong to me

it scares me too but if drayton redshirts it should help.

kpp we also have dewhurst, williams, wilderness, phaler, tatum and that other white kid from oregon coming in next year. we will have a very young team next year. 4 guys will hopefully be 3 or 4 year players. so we’ll see.

I think that of wilderness, tatum and phaler that one of the three will be special and one of the other two needs to at least be solid and we can have a very good team next year.

It seems we do better with him on the court, then with him off…

tatum will be that go to guy next year when leemire is on the bench. because he has a very solid game.

We are a much better team with Withers. He gives us a presence inside to defend and he scores a lot of points. He isn’t a perfect player but what player is perfect all the time.

I definitely think that we are better this year with him, but I think that we could be better next year without him. Goldwire, Alexander, Coleman and others will be better and we have a really strong class coming in.

How could anyone think we might be a better team without Withers?

He was on the U21 olympic team!

Whenever we run an offensive set and he touches the ball, usually something good happens like an assist, remember when Bennett caught fire v St. Joe’s? What sparked the run?

An assist by Withers.

I think he may have finally gotten his TOs under control and we might be a pretty good team down the road.

The key is WHEN he gets the ball in the post. He doesn’t assert himself much down low(sleepwalks) and the other times we don’t get him the ball. He is the best talent we’ve had in a while but his turnovers and lethargic attitude hurts us some too.

Curtis or a 2 (might as well be 3) Freshman… HMMMMMMM…

You could put any PF in the country on this team and witout changes to the offense would have the same struggles… We don’t shoot all that well so Defenses are able to pack it in more than in years past. Curtis isn’t the #1 option nearly enough, so the forced shots and TO’s should not shock anyone, I’m sure he is frustrated as hell in how he is used from time to time (see 2nd half of the Xavier game).

Before I pulled the tread up I thought it wa a joke. It really is.

I’ll remind you of the beginning of the season when Bobby Lutz was asked on the radio why he didn’t get Curt the ball more and he said that they ran plays for him sometimes and he wouldn’t post up hard or he let the play go the either direction. He was very frustrated w/him, so that would make me disagree w/you.

I also believe we are a better team with him. In fact I think it’s obvious as some of you have pointed out. Curt is a double double machine. He may not have had the explosive year we all thought he would but come on, despite his offensive troubles in some games this season he is still pulling down some 15-16 points and 9-10 rebounds a game.

Sound reasoning. While you are ‘reminding me’ please clear up if you are quoting a transcript or typing what you remember.
