I just gotta say big props to JB for bringing it after saying he would.
We were exactly one PhD away from a victory tonight. Damn injuries.
Their penetration killed us. If only we could have found a way to lock it down underneath the basket.
A thought: isnât it amazing how shitty we still look, how many dumb mistakes we commit, how many poor decisions we make, and yet we still came within a few points of beating X again at home? Just imagine, even without PH, if this team could just get its shit together and be consistently positive in these simple areas. Yes, yes, even if JB was only average tonight, the idea of that point still holds merit.
I just gotta say big props to JB for bringing it after saying he would.Seriously.
The foul that occurred at the end of the game was a planned foul according to Chris Mackâs post game. He stated that they were going to foul because they werenât going to let a good shooting 3p team make a 3 like Hawaii did. Not sure the reference to Hawaii, but there you have it. He didnât say we wanted to wait for #11 to get the ball and then foul. They were looking to foul anyone. Mayfield impressed me with his FT shooting, but i was worried that he wouldnât hit both of those. He doesnât seem to thrive under pressure, but this is his first year with real playing time. He seems to be someone who has improved this season.
Nickerson and Williams are young players making young player mistakes. On most teams they would not be getting any where close to the minutes they are getting. Hopefully, it doesnât shake their confidence to much and they learn a lot. Great effort and I take my hat off to JB. The guy has a lot of pride. Last night we saw at least one of our seniors leading by example.
What are the chances we finish at .500?
Not sure what stats your looking at, here is his January totals:
Richmond - 0-2
Saint Joseph - 2-4
Mass - 0-1
Saint Louis - 1-2
Kenn. - 4-6
GW - 0-0
Temple - 1-2
Xavier - 6-8
Total: 14-25 - 56%
While better then his 40% in Nov/Dec he is still the worst FT% on the team, even at 56%.
Even if you take his last 4 games, itâs still 68% which puts him about 6-7th best FT shooter on the team. Know your factsâŚ
I can see us going 5-4 the rest of the games, which should get us to the A-10 tourney. We need to get to .500 for recruiting sake.
Of the 9 games left, only 3 have a worse overall record then we do. Only 1 has a worst A-10 record then we do. And that 1 team just beat Dayton.
The sad thing is there are no dominate A-10 teams this year. Everyone has 2 ore more A-10 losses and 5 or more overall losses. It would of been a good year to be in the mix.
Our offensive rank dropped from 298th to 302nd after last nights game. At least it was fun to watch.
We need more athletes. KJ used to be an athlete, but had to tone it down a bit after injury; I think our most athletic player now is Henry followed by Twill.
Braz, a 6-8 guy caught a pass all alone under the basket and couldnât even dunk it. I thought for sure he was going to get rejected by the rim. He must have a 3 inch vertical or something.

Know your factsâŚ[/quote] I know the facts, thatâs why I said right now and last 4 - 5 games (not âin Januaryâ), as thatâs when Iâve noticed the improvement. I think heâs about the 3rd to 4th best on the team right now (Ivankovic is first with 1 ft taken, but I doubt heâs a better ft shooter than the rest of the team), because I think his ftâs have looked better lately than our sgâs. But youâre right that the stats donât support that argument.
What lineup would you suggest in that situation?
Too bad we wasted a 7-8 from 3 performance by JB. It was fun to watch, though, and really proud of JB for fighting back after saying he would. Like that kid.
I thought Bras should have been in the game more at the end. He really wasnât put back in until about 2 - 3 mins left and then he immediately scored. We didnât do a good job of getting him the ball in the 2nd, and I know he had four fouls, but we needed him in the game, not riding the pine until we were down by 8 late. Henry seems to get him the ball down low better than the other guys, oh well.
We lost because of our guard play. Green and Briscoe were a combined 3-14, 2-10 from 3 and 6 assists and 4 turnovers.
A thought it should be noted that T-Will had a sick block when he came from the weak side and pinned it on the glass. He doesnât give up on a play, got to love his effort.
some positives from last night. barnett played great. really carried the team. love mayfields effort, rebounding, leadership and improved free throw shooting. braswell played a good game. didnt miss a lot of easy shots and was tough and aggressive.
negatives. deuce and derrio. the more i watch derrio, the more i cant stand the way he plays. selfish one on one basketball, taking bad shots, not playing defense and not looking for teammates. deuce simply gave us nothing offensively and couldnt guard holloway. he also had some bad turnovers. he is what he is and that is a spark plug off the bench and nothing more. henry could have made a huge difference last night. i thought williams played a good game.
Not sure if itâs been stated, but the offense ran better when Mayfield was at the PG compared to Derrio or Deuce.
Also, havenât seen Sokool in the postgame thread for some reason. Deuce started the last 2 games:
vs Temple: 27 min, 2-8 fg, 1-6 3pt, 1-2 ft, 5 rebs (only positive), 0 assists, 1 stl, 3 turnovers
vs XU: 22 min, 1-7 fg, 0-4 3pt, 2-2 ft, 5 rebs, 3 assists, 1 stl, 0 turnovers.
That sucked.
If I remember correctly, he ran the court after that and got an impressive offensive rebound of a 3pt shot that kept the possession alive and got us 2pts out of it.
As stated earlier they were going to foul regardless who got the ball. We almost had a chance to make them pay for it but the out of bounds call got reversed. Our guard play scoring is just awful. All year it has been. I think recruits can look at the facts and say post player(s) are good but they need scorers and that is what I can do. We are losing one starter and he is either hot or cold. Henry, Recruit/Williams, Mayfield, Someone, Bras is probably what we are looking at. Getting rid of Derrio will be a blessing I believe.

My favorite thing about that was he blocked Lyons shot, who had blocked his shot earlier. NUT UP!
Simple fact of the matter is that we need much better play from the 2G to win these games, and a shotblocker to play at the 5, shift Braswell to the 4, JB to the 3, etc.
I did love how TWill came back on defense twice - one time when Derrio got the ball stolen, and made the play. He does not give up at all. If he can develop a reliable jump shot, heâs gonna be awfully good. Absolutely love his effort.
Finally, Iâd rather playmayfield at PG. Deuce is not a PG, and I am starting not to trust Derrio there either.
Derrio definitely isnât a PG either. I noticed what 2k did that Mayfield ran the offense better.
Deuce can not make entry passes. We have no inside game when he is running the offense.
Also, Dowless was right. JB is awful.
