Your Observer questions answered ...

FYI- the new font and photos of staff are hideous. It looks like they went out to Freedom Park or something outside and took snapshots.

1. I ignore questions that are meant to inflame rather than inform, or that aren't based in reality.
 1. I have nothing to do with the editorial page. That staff is and has always been separate from the newsroom.

Convenient. However, a more accurate answer would have been, “I ignore all posts that I can’t BS my way out of”!

haha my dad was telling me yesterday that he thinks he looks like Santa Clause in his new pic

By the way, I seem to be in the minority, but I really like the new layout of the paper.

all I need out of the local paper is a normal professional headshot

all these new photos have sunlight shining on their heads and trees in the background- ridiculous

Mike. I love your Avatar.

Mike can you tell us why the Godz of War was canceled? Was it due to low ticket sales?

It wasn’t cancelled. Postponed until the fall sometime.

Low ticket sales played a factor, I’m told, in postponement or cancellation, whichever it becomes.

Thought the same thing thing Metro. How big is Sorensen’s chin in his new pic? He looks like Billy Bob Thornton in SlingBlade!

I think the Raleigh guy is taking his job anyways.
I think the Raleigh guy is taking his job anyways.
please don’t say that.

Good point and my apologies to Mr Sorensen for joking about the matter. Today we got this gem from the Raleigh bureau of the Charlotte Observer:

Dreams of title back with UNC trio
Caulton Tudor is a sports columnist for the (Raleigh) News & Observer.

I believe Jeff Monson is injured as well…

Why is Charlotte.com requiring me to log-in now? I only look at it at work and won’t take the time to sign up. Faster to go to cnn.com or yahoo.com and get some headlines. I also refuse to remember anymore passwords!!!

What’s with that Mike??? I just want to read some local news !!! Why Mike!!!

Of course, I don’t set policy for charlotte.com, but …

They’ve set up the system so that you can log in once and stay logged in forever, but sometimes it becomes necessary to kick everyone out (I got kicked out, too) and sign back in for maintenance of the database, moving it to a new server, stuff like that that IT folks understand but I don’t.

The reason for registration is so we can get metrics for advertisers – xx percent of our audience is local, xx percent out of market, xx percent male and female, etc. There has to be a model for the internet that makes money or you won’t have free sites anymore, only pay sites. To achieve the model, we have to be able to accurately describe our audience.

Certainly it’s a personal choice whether you register for our site or just use cnn, etc. Things like Panthers coverage and Niners coverage, we hope, bring you to charlotte.com. I doubt cnn.com has a Jim Utter or the local news you mention above.

Hope this helps. I’d encourage you to register, or re-register, or ask them to send your password as a reminder, or whatever. Despite issues in the newspaper industry, there’s still no organization that does as well with local news (in its entirety) as the Observer and charlotte.com.

i figured that was the reason.

But isn’t there a chance that newcomers will go to charlotte.com, see you have to register, and go somewhere else. I guess it comes down to do the benefits out-weigh the negatives, do they?

of course, there are people like me who simply use

http://www.bugmenot.com/

I don’t know and don’t care where those ids are from.

OR put in bogus info (except for an obscure yahoo or gmail address that I keep explicitly for times like this).

There are several newspapers around the country, who if they followed their advertising metrics, would assume I am a 91 year old female who lives in Indiana.

I can’t blame you on bugmenot. Like I said, personal choice.
