A bit dated but I found this little blurb about schedulingā¦
āItās getting impossible to buy games,ā Kummer said.
It will get tougher, too, for Atlantic 10 schools with a new rule in place for 2007-08 that prohibits league members from buying games against teams that are rated below 200 in the RPI.
āThe first 130 teams donāt want to get bought and that leaves about 70 teams that arenāt as willing, either,ā said Kummer. And he didnāt even mention the competition for those teams, too.
I got some non-con skirmishes: Y-Morehead B-league, Queens, CPCC, Wells Fargo Intramural Mens Squad & Pffiefer. About all the Niners can handle at the moment.
Thatās a strange rule. Non-con wins help out the conference and it often doesnāt even matter who it is that you beat. Wouldnāt you want a bunch of 13-0 teams in your conference playing each other?
I figured the conference would encourage everyone to schedule as many soft wins as possible (sort of like a Chapel Hill or a Duke racking up easy wins vs. SC Upstate or NC A&T type of teams while having all their later marquis matchups against each other within the conference) ā while individual teams would shy away from scheduling opponents that could potentially ruin their RPI.
i dont understand why anyone would want to schedule app. state. they are good enough that they can beat us on occasion and not good enough that if we beat them that we gain any credit for it. i would rather schedule an elon, nc a&t or usc-upstate as local games. particularly early in with all the new guys we will be breaking in we will need a few games to get the guys to gel together.
We should really try to get 2 big east teams on the schedule. I wouldn't care if they were in the bottom of the league (Rutgers, St. John's, S. Fla, Depaul, Seton Hall) but would prefer middle of the pack. It wouldn't want to play the top right now and there's no way they would schedule us anyway.
You think that wouldnāt be so hard considering a majority of the teams we played in C-USA!
i don't understand this. i like our app state game/series, and hope it continues. :twocents:
It is a good local game, especially considering Davidson thinks of themselves as high and mighty. I have a question about that, why does Davidson get teams like UNC-CH and Duke to play them and we canāt. We donāt mind playing at TWC Arena. Is it the 2 for 1 rule. Iām not opposed to it, going on the road proves our metal!
Louisville, Arizona State for Home and Homes
Pitt looking to host a guaranteed game
I think if we could get any of those it could be good. Better if we could get them all.
Back to my previous comment, CUSA rival in UL. Why canāt they show us some love.
Well I see we have a posting on Basketball Travelerās

Guess we are in the market
Does anyone remember the proposed idea of having a local tourney with Winthrop, Davidson and a couple other local teams? What ever happened with that?

This is probably the 50th time this question has been answered on here.
Weāve offered them 2 for 1ās. Not only will they not come to Halton, they want to control ticketing and seating at TWC Arena. Itāll just be another home game for them. No thanks.

they get those teams to play them because they are hot right now, we are not. a win over davidson looks good right now.

Davidson always plays Duke/UNC-CH. Not just b/c Curry is there.

So I am guessing Davidson gives them that, right?
Thank you NinerAdvocate, all I needed was a refresher, even if it was the 50th time. I remember this now, it has just been a while.
I honestly donāt even care about giving up the home date⦠a game at their place is like a home game for us⦠just in the Mine Shaft instead of Halton.
I honestly don't even care about giving up the home date... a game at their place is like a home game for us... just in the Mine Shaft instead of Halton.
I remember the only game I went to there was like being at a Halton that was colored red. We were chanting the usual chants, āThis is our house,ā and breaking out our keys when they started leaving. It was actually kind of fun being on the road.
