You sort of contradict yourself in that post, you praise his performance but then say he should never of been in the game.... I agree he made some contributions in those games, but he wasn't supposed to be on the court to begin with. What I am saying is if Ian has any integral part of our gameplan, we're F'd and we will have a losing record again. He is not a D1 talent. Lots of D3 guys could come light it up 5 out of 25 games. I'll take someone long and quick who scores 8 every night over Ian anyday.

He may have won us 5 games, but him on the court is a major reason we lost 20 games.

I praised his performance in those games and said that he should be a bench player on a normal up to strength team like ours will be this year. Last year sucked, and if we wouldn’t have played Ian last year we would have sucked even worse. Would you have rather had Rashad at SG most of the game with his 23% 3 shooting? Would have rather given Barnett a good 15-20 minutes?
All I’m saying is that we were ****ed last year either way, but without Ian we would have been ****ed even worse and George would have made the Conference tournament instead of us.

Is there a Niner who has drawn as much unnecessary criticism as Ian?

Gheez. All the kid does is play as hard as he can. It isn’t his fault we had to play him so much last year, but damn are there a bunch of people trying to take it out on him.

The ā€œnot D1ā€ comments are not only inaccurate, they’re tacky and below the belt. Way to treat a kid that loves this school and the program.

I know this will sail right over the heads of the hotheads it is aimed at.

Yeah, I like Ian. I wish he was better than he was, or that he was on a better team, because he would be a fan favorite if he were.

That’s what kills me about people bagging on him PB. Whether or not he’s starter material, most schools would kill to have a shooter like that on their bench, and one with an attitude that great that is also geeting it done in the classroom is the kind of thing fan favorites are made of.

If Ian were used as we should be using him, we’d all love him. Let’s face it, nothing is as demoralizing as having a rally killed by a kid like him coming off the bench to drain 2 or 3 bombs right in front of the opponent’s bench.

exactly, streaky shooters, which we have to admit Ian is, aren’t supposed to play 30 minutes, cause they could have a bad streak for 30 minutes or a good one. He can play around 20 minutes when he is hot, but if he isn’t feeling it coach can go to someone else 5 minutes later and give them a shot, reducing the risk.

I think next year, if Shamarr lives with the hype, his backup will be whoever is hot that night whether it be Ian, Rashad, Derrio or JB

I think Ian is very similar to Plavich. Not as good of a release and definitely not the range, but very similar games. Ian is probably a superior shooter.

If about 4 other guys had won five games for us we would have had a great season.

QFT- He’s needs to play in 5 minute stretches and shoot.

Role player, pure and simple.

Well, let me get this out as well about Ian.

STOP BLOWING KISSES- IT’S BEEN DONE AND YOU LOOK SILLY AS HELL DOING IT!!!

I’m not sure we’d all have contempt for the kiss blowing if we were good last year. It was kind of like icing on a rotten cake, he was celebrating meek success in the face of failure.

If we win 20+ games next year we can worry about other things

Gotta disagree Bob, and I really don’t think it’s close.

Plavich drove me nuts at the line though.

When Ian has an open look, squared up, he’s as good as gold. BP could shoot under fire much better, but he also was surrounded by far superior talent. I really think BP should have been an off the bench guy as well. When he was cold, he was brutal to our offense.

I don’t think Ian is all-world, I think he is a solid role player. I think many people tied to our program have a tendancy to overrate 2gs that are on winning teams and underrate 2gs that aren’t. There is also a lot of love for guys like Diego and BP who were hellaciously streaky, but got us on TV for the theatrics of their game. I would take Demon or Jobey over any other Lutz 2G every day of the week, but I think there is a lot of parity after that.

Jobey was head and shoulders above all of the aforementioned.

Diego and Demon had onions- gotta give them that.

The reason I give Plav so much credit is that he was absolute hell on opposing D’s. You had to guard him from the hash in and it stretched the D so our inside guys had room to play.

Ian, even though I agree when he’s open he’s ok, doesn’t scare anybody and it may be a low release point that is the reason. Plus he doesn’t have a very quick release. I’ve never seen anyone get so many 3’s blocked.

dude- ncaa basketball message boards are not personal. Blunt opinions are why they exist. I could go back in history and find alot of off the wall BS you posted in rants that I’d qualify as ā€œtacky, inaccurate, and below the beltā€ so watch your Ps and qs.

Ian is a great kid and hustles. But he is not a legit 2 option for any aspiring top 50 NCAA team. He’s sort of like Nick Goings as tailback, you know if he is getting alot of carries, you are not winning any games, but he is a decent cast memeber - minus the kisses.

my entire point was someone posted that he ā€œhopedā€ Ian was working hard so he can contribute alot next yr, and my point is it shouldn’t matter. If he is playing substantial minutes, we are doomed.

DOBA
(though I’m sure it will fly over the heads of those its intended for)

That about sums it it. He is a classic 8th guy on a top 50 squad, he has been asked to be the 2nd or 3rd option for us at times. Ian is exactly the kind up player you need, only if you are not asking him to do too much.

To assume we have ever been able to play Ian where he belongs is a very bad assumption. Injuries to not kill a season. (Thats what back-ups are for.)

People playing out of their position is what kills a season.
