2011 - 2012 Opponents Thread

This is true - important distinction though is buying season tickets vs. single game tickets. The years I didn’t have season tickets I still came to plenty of games, just elected to drop my season tickets as a way to show that I was unhappy with what had transpired (mostly lack of vision) and the fact that the caliber of opponents in Halton would be lower. I actually probably spent more money buying single game tickets than I would have if I had bought season tickets, but I had to/wanted to make a point. If it wasn’t for football I am not sure I would have season tickets today. There are only so many ways to try to show the AD you are upset without having a negative impact to our student athletes and dropping season tickets is IMO one of the best ways to do that because if you still attend games via single game tickets they have gotten the message when you don’t renew.

We lost a significant chunk of our fanbase with the switch to the A-10 unfortunately. I think we would have lost another HUGE chunk if we hadn’t decided to add football.

Back on topic, Our home schedule is definitely not something that will excite fans but it is a managable one for this team. Our road schedule is decent. It will be a good test.

If the Arkansas deal is a H & H, we will have at least 2 BCS schools coming to Halton in 12-13 season (Oregon State). Then we will hopefully add a TWC Arena caliber game. ECU game will spark local interest next season also (hopefully a Saturday game). Looking up for the future.

Aren’t we also still waiting to hear about a TWC game this year? I thought Derrio tweeted something about that.

Looks like a big payday for Major!

We won’t be having a game at TWC Arena this season. We only have 12 non-conf games because we got screwed out of the Battle 4 Atlantis, all 12 opponents are set to my knowledge, but because of Niner Report, we can only talk about 11 of them.

So we will only have 28 games, 13 at home this year?

I call all of our opponents, Visitor.

I can’t believe C-Pip is taking a dive on 1 opponent for Niner Report. I never thought you’d take a dive for anyone. C-Pip is getting soft in his post-college years. Mr. Scaredy-Cat of a lawsuit. The old C-Pip we knew would tell a lawyer to kiss his a55!

As you and any other alumni should, but Charlotte “casual fans” want to see top competition, we won’t increase our support with these kind of schedules, but like 2K said it’s mostly our fault, we aren’t bad enough to pull a uncg schedule where we get all these good teams to come and whip us and we aren’t good enough to get great games in Charlotte. oh well… Go Niners![/quote]

We have enough alumni in the area that if we were ever able to be good again, it wouldn’t matter who we’re playing.

Hope we add another good home game as I just bought season tickets again for this year. I hate going to watch NCCU, WSSU, UNCA, GW, etc.

Niner Report is a waste of money. You can take that extra opponent and shove it.

“like” And until more of our “fans” feel this way, attendance will suffer. Do other “schools of note” fans worry about the opponents? Think Ky fans fret over their schedule? Does Kansas? No. Does UNCW, app st, gardner-webb? Probably. Get it?

I agree with Jfelt 100 percent but 49er1 is wrong. Example 1: It is even easy to get a ticket in chapel hill when they are playing an unworthy opponent.

Example 2: Wake started off the 96-97 season ranked #2 in the nation with all seats sold out to season ticket holders (and students). Joel colisem was over half empty for games before conference play began.

it’s a shame nevin shapiro won’t be able to make it to watch our niners play his miami hurricanes

Charlotte on Central Michigan’s schedule, playing on Tuesday, Novembe 15th: http://www.cmuchippewas.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=10500&SPID=4210&SPSID=46437

That’s a wrap on opponents, all we’re waiting on is the Radford and (updated)Lamar dates to be released.

At worst we need to be 9-3 with this OOC.

Trey Ziegler’s no joke.

Excellent job by Pip-Braille in the compilation of the schedule. Thanks for keeping us informed with up-to-date information.

My tinted glasses counted 11 OOC wins.

Central Michigan game could be part of ESPN’s 24 hours of basketball, which means we may not have to use channel surfing to see the game!!

It could be a 3:00 AM tip time on ESPN, but beggers can’t be choosers right?

Central Michigan was our toughest game in the march to the 1977 Final Four (tougher than Syracuse and Michigan). As I recall, the last shot bounced around the rim in regulation for CM and, of course, came out. Otherwise, there would have been no history making events in basketball for us that year.

If we can just keep it out of the 12am-5am EST time frame, I’ll tune in. I’ll have to DVR it if it falls in that time frame. I think I would rather have a quality internet feed at a decent time than a $hitty time slot on national TV. Either way, nobody on the outside is going to see our game.
