Watkins got some good recruits who started doing good at A&M under Gillespie. Remember A&M was a B-Ball Pariah before Watkins. I think Mizzou should take him. If not, Major should get Watkins to be his AHC.
You expect Major to give the boot to one of the assistants that he brought in after one year? ???
And you really think we could match what he’s making at Mizzou as an Assistant? Send in your dontaion. But as 2K said, he’s not going to boot anyone to make room for a coach who did not want to be here anymore.
I’m sure it accompanied a waiver of any (implied contractual) claims he may have had.
It was a “here’s some $, let’s both move on (and don’t sue us)”
I think Pearl’s money is to shut him up and have him agree with the NCAA findings. If he disputes, it will take the NCAA a longer time to designate the penalties. The sooner UT gets the penalties, the sooner they can get a new HC.
No HC will take a job without knowing the pending sanctions.
Major doesn’t have to give anyone the boot. How often do Assts. stay more than 1 year? They come & go all of the time.
And I figured someone that was here 21 out of 22 years would love to come back, & if he doesn’t get the Mizzou head job, the new guy probably won’t hire him period.

They did not give Melvin the job but Anderson did keep him when he took over. I am not sure your theory holds.
I would be really shocked if one of our assistants left after one year here. They were not hold overs from Lutz staff, Major brought these guys in.
Nugget, it’s very rare for a new HC to keep you.
I’ve read that Buzz Williams to Oklahoma is likely. The Marquette boosters are not a fan of the JUCO recruits (they even disliked that Wade left early years ago).
He is from Texas and recruits that region well. He has a very large buyout (rumored to be $3-4 mill).
Buzz to OU would be a great decision for OU, and probably Buzz. Puts him closer to home.
Mooney does not appear to be on Mizzou’s list, as they are moving forward. Could be that they just can’t say his name yet. Don’t understand why they consider Painter a candidate. Why would you leave Illinois and the new Big 12 to go to Missouri and the new Big 10?
Among potential early candidates are three coaches with area ties: Matt Painter of Purdue, Cuonzo Martin of Missouri State and Ben Jacobson of Northern Iowa. The latter two fit the mid-major profile while Painter is a former assistant and head coach at Southern Illinois.
Texas A&M Corpus Christi has hired Memphis Assistant Willis Wilson as it’s new Head Coach. Wilson replaces Perry Clark.

I wondered if Jacobson’s name would come up again. Seemed like he might have missed his opportunities last year. Didn’t he turn down some offers?
From what I’ve read, seems like most writers think Cuonzo Martin would be a great hire for Mizzou.
I also wonder why Scott Drew’s name is not coming up for either Mizz or OU.
Probably an unwritten rule not to poach coaches from inside the conference.
I’m surprised Drew hasn’t been mentioned with NCSU, especially with him plucking 2 stars in the 2011 class from the state of North Carolina.
I think the perception is that Drew is a bit shady on the recruiting scene. I don’t see NCSU taking a risk in that capacity, also didn’t help Drew’s cause to have 2 NBA players on his team and not even make the NCAAs.
